My wife's nephew plays on the travel/tournament teams - thank God he is not a pitcher BUT I sent a copy of my column to his mother who is very active in the schools and community telling her to record the show and then pass it around. Whatever small steps we can take anyplace are at least tiny first steps
Perry- It was an excellent column. Send it to the NY Times or if you have other ways to get it out there more. I'm sending you a PM on the MLB injury system.

Marlins star pitcher Jose Fernandez is scheduled to have Tommy John surgery Friday morning in Los Angeles, league sources said . . . Noted surgeon Neal ElAttrache will perform the surgery.

Poor Kid- Hope he has a solid recovery and return to the Bigs. He was fun to watch.

Does anyone think the Mets will let Harvey pitch this year? Reports are he keeps saying he is pitching this season. If I'm the Mets, no way I let him.

Whining?
What thread were you reading?
I thought of this thread as a good-spirited debate. If thinking I was whining, fine. But I never thought of any of the replies to me as whining.
No fantasy teams were mentioned as far as I know.
Is it whining to say I'll miss the best pitcher in baseball this year? If so, guilty.
Since this was brought up, I'll tell you my reaction to Fernandez injury from a fantasy perspective.
I think it is the best kind of injury to have from a great player. It may sound 'silver linerish', but let me explain.

Before leaving fantasy teams, Fernandez gave fantasy goodness. He was among the league leaders in every stat.
Some stars that are hurt do not do this. If Carlos Santana were to be lost for the rest of the season, he will have killed his owners.
Not only does the bastard get hurt, but he stink up the joint before he leaves!
Fernandez saved us from that.

Fernandez will also be dropped from fantasy teams. He won't be lingering on our benches like Kipnis or Hamilton or Braun as constant reminders of their fantasy impotence.
Fernandez will be replaced with albeit, a lesser Starter, but he can be replaced on our rosters, while the lingerers take up a bench spot.
Fernandez, if having to have an injury, is the best case scenario....save for it happening in September :D
This why I love Matt Harvey. Four months of roto goodness and an injury not too long before he was due to be shut down.

They practically had to drag him into the operating room, too. You have to like his attitude and obvious love for pitching, but I hope the Mets will be cautious.

Going through the Roto World clips quickly, I saw the words 'Martin Perez', 'Michael Wacha' and 'Tommy John'.
I thought 'SOMBITCH!' Another one?....but I was reading too fast and they were talking of Perez bout with Tommy John, while extolling Wacha's virtues vs. the Cubs.
I then thought to myself that although my reaction was 'SOMBITCH!', I was not at all surprised.
And that is a damn sad thing.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

It just came out that Martin Perez is for sure having TJ surgery, so no rest and rehab for him. Should be a wild FAAB period for pitchers this Sunday

Not word for word, but I agree with the basic premise of the video
