ARod?
ARod?
Please excuse my ramblings on this topic but just wondering about next spring. Especially bringing to light Jeter's horrible statistics and basic uselessness on a fantasy roster and maybe on the Yankees roster.
Is there any chance that ARod could be the opening day shortstop for the Yanks next year? If not, why? If yes, why? Of course none of us are sure about his physical status with that hip concern. But could he be less mobile than a 40 year old Jeter coming off an ankle injury? I would most likely guarantee his offensive production would surpass that of Jeter's. Could he still play shortstop at all?
Know matter what we all think, the guy is still going to make 25 mil next year. And more after that as well. Will the Yankees pay him off? Will he retire with some settlement? Will the fans forget about his issues as have the fans of Braun and others? The guy finally got some good advice and we haven't heard anything about him in months. Will time heal all the wounds? Leave out the personal feelings on this guy. Can he still play? Will he still play?
I don't know but I am curious to see how it unfolds next year.
Thanks
Dan

Re: ARod?
Can't see him playing for the Yankees next year. Also can't see him playing SS for anyone. More likely candidates include Hanley Ramirez, Asdrubal Cabrera, Stephen Drew, etc. I predict a buyout during the offseason.

Re: ARod?
I think a buyout is possible but why would ARod do it? Unless he is physically unable to play or does not want to face the fans. He is due the $$$$. Maybe the yanks say vanish and we will give you 50 million? They are going to have to pay him. His advisors probably told him to lay low for a year. The fans will forgive when he returns(that is what he is hoping).
I guess my main point is that they are going to have to pay him, and they have shown a willingness to pay and play Jeter who is now performing at such a low level. why wouldn't they play Arod when he will, in my opinion, play at a higher level than Jeter. Especially since they have to pay him anyway.

Re: ARod?
Because everyone loves Jeter and his character. Especially Yankee fans. And most fans dislike ARod, even a lot of Yankee fans....DJMDJM wrote:Why wouldn't they play Arod when he will, in my opinion, play at a higher level than Jeter. Especially since they have to pay him anyway.
I suspect that Arod may settle for something a little less than what is owed him and go away. If the Yanks don't offer that, I'm not sure what they will do...they are in a rough spot.

You're making it seem like ARod is still ARod. He'll be 39 next year, the same age as Jeter now.DJMDJM wrote:I think a buyout is possible but why would ARod do it? Is he any better preserved than Jeter?
I don't think so.
Injuries have slowed his roll, so that he hasn't played even 140 games during the last six years. During the last three years, he has played more than even 100 games only once. And hasn't reached even 20 homers any of those years.
Hard to believe he has been with the Yankees 10 years. This, being the 11th (if counted)
I would think of him as a public relations nightmare.
Jeter still gets respect as he fails during his last season. The opposite will happen in Yankee Stadium as ARod fails.
I would already be greasing the wheels to pay him off, so that he would never wear a Yankee uniform again.
Easy decision, pay him and say good bye.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Easy for us to say. Maybe even easy for the Yanks to do. But 20 mil is still 20 mil. And for 3 more years totaling over 60 mil left on his contract. All I am saying is that if they are willing to trot Jeter out there, why won't they do the same with ARod. Why is there no public relations nightmare with Braun and some of the others. It appears as though those fans are ok. If the Yanks win, there will be no nightmare. If they lose, Arod could be in for hard times if he fails. I would not expect any historic or even better than average numbers from Arod. Just those a little better than what Jeter is providing, and that is my main point.
Thanks

He'll be the same age as Jeter, only with more miles and more injury woes. Why will he be 'a little better' ?DJMDJM wrote:I would already be greasing the wheels to pay him off, so that he would never wear a Yankee uniform again.

Why over pay an under performer who will get little respect?
Braun is a poor comparison. He is still at the peak of his career.
ARod is like a lemon of a car. We want it out of here. The monthly bills still come, but just the same, we're glad it's out of our sight.
The Angels have a like problem only without the ARod history. They paid for Ibanez.
He's a LEMON! And not Chet Lemon!
But, they have a hard time realizing that.
And instead, good young hitters like Cron or Green may get sent back down.
So, you may get your wish.
The Yanks may give ARod a shot.
It won't cost you or I anything, but I'm guessing that some fans will not pay big bucks to see the last of ARod like they will when seeing the last of Derek Jeter.
The hidden money factor is always a bitch
