Moustakas demoted

:x
Royals feel it's time to have Mike Moustakas work out his hitting problems at Triple-A.

After 1600 mlb plate appearances- Never could hit lefties, now can't hit righties, very average defender, clearly has a focus/work ethic problem as he's regressed instead of progressed. Yeah, I'm sure they're elated to keep him under team control. Had to be a key factor.

From the way they were talking on MLB Network earlier today, it's actually the opposite. Apparently he is one of the first players to the park everyday, he's always doing extra work and taking extra hitting. Supposedly the Royals just wanted to get him out of his current environment and maybe take some pressure of him.

Although I'm not sure...I think I would feel more pressure now to hit and produce so that I could get back to majors (unless they told him it will only be for X amounts of days and then they will recall him no matter what)

Pressure decrease does not correlate with skills increase. He's just not that good. He never has been. He was a top prospect based on his power potential, but if you can't make solid contact, power doesn't translate. Maybe he is a hard worker, but as a royals fan, I know his focus has been questioned. At 1600+ PA, maybe it's time for a change of scenery. They have a couple of 3b prospects in cuthbert and dozier that are likely at least another yr and a half away, so perhaps they are just hoping this will work out. Still, I'm pretty sure they've moved on from penciling him in as the future at 3b.

The surprising thing is this is his first demotion. The Royals were not reluctant to send Gordon down a couple times when he struggled.

Gordon played 2 full seasons before he was demoted...but a little different scenario. Gordon had a decent 2nd season in the bigs until he tore his quad. After that he had a couple yrs full of injuries and bad play. As crazy as it sounds now, when he was sent down in 2010 he had been passed up on the future 3b pecking order by Moustakas  and was sent down to both work on his offensive game AND learn how to play left field. Now he's a great defender in LF- possibly the best. Moustakas has never had any success in the bigs. It always felt like some of Gordon's ineffectiveness was due to his injuries, whereas that can't be said about Moustakas. Obviously it's easier to say these things in hindsight. Hopefully Moose will make me eat my words.

:?:
Didn't most all the Royals hit better when George Brett spent time coaching the offense last season for a while?

You'd think they'd be rolling out wheelbarrows of cash to Brett to continue that again.
Is he uninterested?

He served as the "front man" in that fiasco, but their current hitting coach, Pedro Grifol, came on board at the same time. They "shared" the position, I believe is the term that was used, but I'm pretty sure Grifol did most of the dirty work. Brett has plenty of money. He has made it pretty clear he's not interested in spending the time/travel it takes to do that job long term. He still consults with the team, but I don't know to what degree.

Brett is a VP for the Royals so it's not more money

He had that role before he became hitting coach. I'm not sure what exactly it entails. I'm pretty sure it's more of a title than anything.
