From My Viewpoint, We're In A Losing Streak

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Thu May 22, 2014 10:24 am

I'm kind of disappointed with these Message Boards.
Gone is the fire of a Mike The Mouth.
Gone is the wit and intelligence of dvy.
And old favs, Gekko, King of Queens, KJ, Quahogs, and others are seen seldom.

Maybe it is just a slow time of the season or a lot of folks are busy with their own lives and don't have time for the Boards.
I understand that. I have a new job that will severely limit my time here after the Memorial Day weekend.
I'll still contribute, just not at the 'daily' rate.
What I do know is that traffic has slowed considerably here.
This isn't a post to spank the newer posters. Mostly just missing and lamenting the 'good 'ol days' of the Boards.
It seems now that most posts are a regurgitation of information we can get on any site like injuries or who's pitching and not pitching, blah, blah, blah.
Unique or new is gone.
The Boards are dumbed down.
I always thought our boards were a cut above that, but like said, maybe we're in the throws of a losing streak and things will get better.
And maybe it's just me. Maybe the way the Message Boards are now is enjoyed by many, while I'm one of the few that don't care for them as much.
To me, most of the 'information' garnered here, can be seen on other sites. Seemingly a race to see who can 'contribute' info after they've seen something reported elsewhere and then post on these Boards.
Information, already known by many. And I've done it too, but won't anymore.
I just don't feel like it is 'informative' or really, even needed.
Unless somebody wants to start a conversation about Matt Cain pulling a hammy, but I'm guessing few want that.
Ah well, enough of my good ol days rhetoric....but they are missed.

I obviously missed something. What happened to Mike the Mouth?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

The good old days Dough  It's just a natural maturation process I believe. The snark and sniping made for good theater in the old days and drove the bus. Out of that grew heated debate and interesting topics. Rules were open for modification and opinions were strong. Now? Rules are for the most part set in stone. Most of us have met and know each other and friendships formed - now we're more respectful and tolerant. sort of

As you've noted before Dough - the Wussification of America - probably plays a part in the toothless boards too. There was no anti-bullying mindset back 7+ years ago like there is now. Greg has effectively weeded out the snark and snipe as is his right - it's his business.

In-season was always light though Dough. 10% of us are psyched and don't want to rattle the cage with our spout. The other 90% are sick of our teams and have nothing to talk about.

So this is what's left. Interesting pockets by Dough, Wayne and a few others and not much else. Now you say you have a job keeping you off the boards?? Oh man -say it ain't so Dough !

I completely agree Dan. Especially with the posting of all of the injuries and the look at.me posts from DH. Thank God for your columns and Edward Kings blog. Please don't leave us Dan. You are our only hope for revival. There is hope.. you just have to believe!!! :)

Thanks all. I'll still be around, just not at the same pace as has been in the past.
Believe me, I'd worry more about what has become of the top subject line than this neighborhood. The top subject line was the heart and soul of these Message Boards and a can't-miss read every day.
Now, not so much.

For some reason message boards in general have declined in the fantasy world. The NFFC main competition used to have an incredible message board. Not they are the largest fantasy football contest ever and run the largest lower buy in contest ever and yet their message boards are a ghost town. It must have something to do with the fact that as contests expand everywhere, less people know each other. The more online drafts there are, the more this becomes the case. I would have guessed with more entrants the more popular message boards would be. Growing up with CDM games, where nothing was live, the more people in the game, the more posts that were made. Not sure why this isn't the case with the NFBC/NFFC and their competition. They are complete ghost towns.
