Jonathan Singleton In FAAB This Week
The Astros' latest callup from the minors will be a very, very interesting one for all fantasy leagues across the country. He comes at a time when many teams just lost a first baseman in Prince Fielder. He comes one month after George Springer just dominated the majors during the month of May. And he comes early in the week when folks will get a full week of viewing before having to place their final FAAB bids.
The Jonathan Singleton callup is interesting in so many ways. He was drafted in only 10 of our 248 30-round leagues, which means he should be available in 96 percent of all FAAB leagues this week. And he plays his first game on Tuesday night and could play six games before final bids are due. It's a unique combination that doesn't happen very often in the NFBC.
The Astros were able to promote him once he agreed to a club-friendly 5-year, $10 million deal with three club options. Other agents aren't happy about the deal, feeling that Singleton's agents gave the Astros a sweet deal. But as fantasy owners, we're just happy that Singleton is coming to the majors now and will be part of this rather exciting Astros club. We hope he has the type of debut that George Springer just had.
The bidding should be interesting this week. It will be fun to watch him in advance. Glad to have you in the majors Jonathan.

10 mil for a guy who would rather smoke Dope than play baseball and never had an ab in major leagues, The agents should be jumping up and down for joy. Has bust written all over him.

Re: Jonathan Singleton In FAAB This Week
If the weed is more important to him than baseball, then you will be proven right. It's another element that makes the bidding for him so interesting because another suspension is always possible with him. But if he becomes the power-hitting first baseman as expected, then he would have made a lot more than $10 million in Years 4 and 5 of this contract. At the end of the day, we don't really care about that. We're just happy to have him in the majors at this time.Bama wrote:10 mil for a guy who would rather smoke Dope than play baseball and never had an ab in major leagues, The agents should be jumping up and down for joy. Mickey Mantle was a drunk and no one complained because he performed on the field. Yet an athlete smokes a joint and we overpenalize them. This country is so backwards on drug policy. Legalize and be done with it.
Re: Jonathan Singleton In FAAB This Week
As long as he doesn't give them cause, he won't be tested any more. One of the many rights that minor leaguers had bargained away by major leaguers was freedom from random testing for "drugs of abuse." Thus, he had 50 games knocked off the front of his career for something that players on every major league team use without fear of sanction.

Everything is upside-down in this country right now. Terminal madness of the end times. Bring on the zombie apocalypse!

First Rosenthal says Polanco will be called up Friday, then a Pirates official (yeah that's right official - lol) says that is not true. So, who ends up being right?
Who are all these "officials"? and who watches all the officials that run everything (not speaking of baseball here). Officials said.........
Experts said...........
Give me a name. What makes them so official. Why should they set policy and I have to live by it? What happened to a "free" country?

The whole rumor mill and the minions who opine about them, like Rotoworld, Rosenthal, XM, are a cottage industry business unto themselves... Polanco coming up, not coming up, bottom line is there are fans that will buy tickets to every game between now and when he does arrive, so they get to see him in his first game...
Personally I think he comes up this weekend sometime, but that's just a rumor I created.

Re: Jonathan Singleton In FAAB This Week
This whole thing with the Pirates is bizarre to say the least. This is a team that went 20+ years between playoff appearances and they finally get the city excited about baseball again by reaching the playoffs last year. Then they sat pat on this team during the off-season and they are being cheap by not promoting their best minor-league prospect so that they can save money later on. In the meantime they've pissed away this season.
Pirates officials are denying that Polanco is coming up this weekend because they're not sure when this stupid Super 2 deadline actually ends or begins or whatever you want to call it. It's such a stupid rule that there isn't even a hard date for teams to plan around. They will call him up to the majors as soon as they can without losing that year of arbitration, but they don't know when that is. Just plan on him coming up in the next week or so, but by that time the Pirates could be 8+ games out of first place.
It's cool to see that the Pirates are already planning for him to lead off. You don't see too many leadoff hitters being called up at this point in the season with stolen base potential like Polanco has. Should be interesting to see what kind of impact he has on fantasy races down the stretch.

This from a Pittsburg area scribe:
Bob Smizik: Where's Polanco?
June 6, 2014 5:30 AM
By Bob Smizik
• As of now, Gregory Polanco will not be in the Pirates lineup tonight against first-place Milwaukee and that's wrong. Based on his Class AAA performance, Polanco isn't just one of the Pirates’ 25 best players, he's one of their three best outfielders. If this is a baseball decision, it makes no sense. If this is a business decision, it makes no sense. Pirates management owes the fans an explanation.
---------
Bob is right, we are now a week past Super Two issues. So it makes little sense to not call him up this weekend. A blurb in MLBtraderumors suggest that the Bucs are trying to tie him up with a long term contract ala Singleton's deal before they bring him up. If true, using AAA purgatory as contract leverage will likely prove disgusting to Pittsburg fans as well as prove ineffective. Bucs management are off base on this one.

A week ago, Smizik said the Pirates were just fine because Josh Harrison had a higher batting average in the majors than Polanco did in the minors.

Polanco could surely replace the slumping Marte for the time being.Yah Mule wrote:A week ago, Smizik said the Pirates were just fine because Josh Harrison had a higher batting average in the majors than Polanco did in the minors.

IMO, he should have been on the roster coming out of camp. Same with Taveras and especially Springer.Deadheadz wrote:Polanco could surely replace the slumping Marte for the time being.Yah Mule wrote:A week ago, Smizik said the Pirates were just fine because Josh Harrison had a higher batting average in the majors than Polanco did in the minors.

I'm not sure why Smizek said what he did, unless he was simply tired of Pirates fans emailing him about Polanco every day.
Re: Jonathan Singleton In FAAB This Week

Main Even League $129, 2nd place bid $128 - kudos to the winner, great bid
Primetime League $257, 2nd place bid $62 - overpay?
Online Championship League $15, 2nd place bid $1 - wait, whaat?!??

I didn't even bid on him.

Paid 430 for him could have had him but down in her and rbi. Plus get Latos back soon. Hopefully the move that moves me to top. Plus palonco was all ready on a team.

Congrats on winning Singleton. Unfortunately you failed English. Brutal.
