I hate seeing him get hurt.
He's one of just a handful of players that I will stop and watch, especially with a noted base stealer on first....
Irreplaceable to the Cards and to his fantasy owners in the NFBC.

Agreed. Irrespective of fantasy, it sucks when great players get hurt. Huge blow to the Cards. Sliding seems to be more dangerous than ever. I can't ever recall so many players getting hurt sliding. Makes you wonder if it is a fluke or a sign that an integral baseball skill is not being taught or practiced to the same degree as in years past.

I think the actual bases may have something to do with it.Bronx Yankees wrote:Agreed. Irrespective of fantasy, it sucks when great players get hurt. Huge blow to the Cards. These things are hard as rocks and have no give at all. They also never have a chance to soften. They are swapped out after four and a half innings and are only used for an X amount of time before they are pulled from game play and are sold by MLB as a game used item.
I know Molina didn't directly jam his thumb into the bag like Zimmerman and Hamilton did earlier this year, but I would still think that the lack of "give" on the bag may have been a contributing factor for Molina coming to an abrupt stop and forcing his hand into the ground.
I'm not suggesting they go back to the pillow soft bags of the forties, and I'm sure the firmer bag probably prevents some leg injuries, but maybe they can find a middle ground away from the rocks they are using now.

Interesting thought. Perhaps you're right, but it does seem like sliding-related injuries are way up this year and the bases haven't changed recently, or have they? Maybe I'm just forgetting sliding-related injuries from years past, but it seems like players constantly are getting hurt (particularly hands/fingers) sliding this season. Maybe the bases are too hard, but it also looks like some players need a refresher course in Sliding 101 (although some of the injuries might be pure flukes).Navel Lint wrote:I think the actual bases may have something to do with it.Bronx Yankees wrote:Agreed.
