The Hot Stove League Is Heating Up

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Nov 17, 2014 11:19 am

While everyone is watching football with the NFL red-hot and college football nearing the end of conference schedules, baseball stole a little thunder today with some huge deals. The Hot Stove league is heating up, that's for sure.

The Cardinals and Braves pulled off an old-fashioned blockbuster trade today when the Braves sent Jason Heyward and Jordan Walden to the Cardinals for SP Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins. Wow.

Not to be outdone, the Blue Jays threw $85 million at C Russell Martin and secured him for five years. Wowzie!!

Oh, and it looks like the Marlins and Giancarlo Stanton have agreed to a 13-year, $325 million deal!! :o

Let the Hot Stove get even hotter. What do you think of the blockbuster trade? Where's Wayne when you need him?

that's the type of trade that happens when one front office consists of 3 men in their 70's and the game has passed them by, trade with one of the better run front offices in baseball.
upton(good one) is next. to seattle i hear. im sure the geniuses in the braves front office will pull rodney from the mariners

Hanley Ramirez to Boston. Looks like money to be finalized today, but around 5 years and $90 million. I thought he would get six and more than $100M. I know he has many questions and is older than Sandoval, but i thought would command much more than Sandoval's deal. (For the record, didn't think Sandoval or Russell Martin would be in this neighborhood).

Riddle me this one, Batman!

Ortiz - DH
Napoli - 1st
Pedroia - 2nd
Panda - 3rd
Cespedes - LF

Assuming you go with Bogaerts at SS, whither thou goest Hanley? Trade Napoli, move Panda to first? Trade Cespedes, move Hanley to LF? Put Hanley at SS and Bogaerts at AAA?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Good Question. Looks like Hanley in left, cant play shortstop anymore. I guess Cespedes to right or traded. Mookie to AAA or traded. I think there is still a some moving parts here and who knows where it shakes out.

XM seems to think Cespedes will be traded for pitching. Should be interesting....definitely a fun time of the year.

If they are really interested in Cole Hamels, maybe some package for him, but maybe they would rather have Lester back. They definitely have options.

As a Dodger fan, would be ecstatic to see Hamels in LA.

As for Red Sox, my guess would be on Cespedes getting traded.
