This is not a post about fantasy vs. reality though. Well, mostly.
The San Francisco Giants won the world Series. They have/had a crappy fantasy team. Only three Giants have an ADP in the top 100 of players chosen in NFBC drafts this year.
What the Giants are, under Bruce Bochy, is a terrific tournament team. And for some reason, we Americans put more stock in that end of the season tournament than we do a 162 game season. During this tournament, a hot hitter or hot pitcher can virtually carry a team to victory. Folks that never heard of Madison Bumgarner before the playoffs were amazed at how he made the Royals look like buffoons. Clayton Kershaw was not as hot during the playoffs. In fact, some of his worst games of 2014 were during the playoffs.
Still, with my family's lives on the line, I would pick Kershaw to pitch a game, not Bumgarner.
The Giants are a conglomeration of good players who play better over shorter periods of time. And, Managed by a fella who has tournament know-how.
Over the last five years, the Giants have won three World Series. Some, would call that a dynasty.
In this day and age, it isn't.
The Tigers and other teams have won more regular season games over the last five years than the Giants. All forgotten because of the tournament.
The regular season in sports has become foreplay. A woman's form of foreplay, to be sure. The foreplay is much longer than the sex of the post-season.
Right now, the Arizona Cardinals have a record that most teams in football would envy. There fans are excited.
Most enjoying the foreplay, all the while knowing that blueballs is the likely outcome.
In fantasy, we use the regular season as our foreplay AND sex.
We have it right.
After all, who has foreplay over a long period, only to put that on pause and start sex days later?
Ludicrous, right?
It's no wonder we miss the regular season when the post-season begins.
Still, we feel the same emotions as those of fans of the Arizona Cardinals. And, fans of the Detroit Tigers.And, fans of the San Francisco Giants
Giants fans were elated at being the Champion. This year, the NFBC Champs were the Morgan's.
Both, reached the pinnacle.
The Tigers have won first place in their division four years in a row, with no World Championship.
This is the same as an individual winning four NFBC leagues consecutively. A grand achievment, just not as memorable as two Overall Championships, like Lindy or even one Overall Championship like the Morgan's.
And the Cardinals winning thier division is like an NFBC rookie winning his first league. He knows the Overall isn't likely, but in a lot of ways, doesn't care.

We are closing in on the New Year. This marks that we're halfway of the off season being over ( but who's counting
