Re: how bout those Padres?!!!
So an outfield of Kemp, Myers and Upton in the Padres' outfield? Wow. Can Myers really play center field and stay healthy in center field? That will be the question. Interesting additions, for sure, and now the NL West is the toughest division in baseball. Should be fun to watch this three-team race.76erfan wrote:Kemp, Myers, Norris and Justin Upton all this week. Depleting their farm system but they have SP already.......and now bats too!

Rumor has it that SD is looking to flip Myers. Rangers and Profar have been mentioned. Either way love that teams are gambling this year.

I'm just lovin the new generation of GM's.
Not treating their jobs as if they have two terms of a President to get a team moving.
Not afraid to fail and making moves that are reminiscent of fantasy baseball more than real baseball.
I don't know if it's a fad or trend, but it sure makes the off season MUCH more enjoyable!
I can't wait for the San Diego sluggers (how weird is it to say that?) to come to Coors and be part of a 15-14 game.

Mumblings of Hanigan to Boston for Middlebrooks which makes so much sense.
Ideal pitch-framer for the new pitching staff while possible freeing up Vazquez or Swihart to be in package for Hamels.

Re: how bout those Padres?!!!
red sox are refusing to give any top prospects for hamels so not sure that would ever happen.
i guess norris/federowicz are the catchers in SD......
padres are really RH hitting heavy
my annual trip to a baseball park is going to be San Diego this year...look fwd to seeing this revamped team.

Re: how bout those Padres?!!!
I went to my first Padre game over 60 years ago and have been a fan ever since. It was fun to see foul balls land in the harbor in those days.
I've been watching the Padres a long time and this may be the best hitting team since the "Big Red Machine" played for San Diego during their Pacific Coast League tour.
As usual it will depend on players staying healthy but the Cubs and Padres will certainly bring more excitement to their fans this year.

And the Padres are insisting on three top prospects which will never happen either -- it's just negotiation.76erfan wrote:red sox are refusing to give any top prospects for hamels so not sure that would ever happen.

Re: how bout those Padres?!!!
I know but if they wont give ond of their top three they just wont get him. Hamels return needs to have one top prospect or its not worth it to philly. They dont have to trade him now. Red sox need an ace bad. Wonder who will cave?

Re: how bout those Padres?!!!
The big advantage active GM's have is they are bound to win a few deals. 2-3 years from now it will be impossible for a casual fan to unravel the web of players SD is weaving this offseason. The GM can just point to whichever deal worked out the best and affix their name to it. This mentality certainly brings us back to your presidential reference Dough.DOUGHBOYS wrote:I'm just lovin the new generation of GM's.

As a Phillies fan, I continue to think of possible Hamels trades that make sense. Their biggest needs are in the OF and at C. A deal featuring Myers and Hedges would accomplish that. How about an expanded deal with Utley and Gyorko? Could Revere fill SDs CF issue? There's also a huge void at 1B for SD which Howard could fill but only if it's pennies on the dollar. A deal like this could also help the Phils rebuild sooner with major league ready talent. I wish I had confidence that Amaro could actually pull something off. What an interesting offseason though.

Do we get a bunch of new hitters for Colorado, Yankee Stadium, Philly, Texas, the White Sox for us to salivate over how their stats will be padded by their new zip code?
But NOOOOOOO!

We get guys moving to San Diego and Miami...the hitting stats black holes...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.
