After three years of trying to win the 100K in baseball, I’ve decided to call it quits in the NFBC.

My finishes are as follows:

2004 – 93rd out of 195

2005 - 74th out of 300

2006 - 106th out of 330

While these are respectable finishes, they don’t meet my expectations and will not be tolerated. I gave it a shot, and it hasn’t worked out.

It was fun competing against some of you, and I wish you good luck in the future. Someone else will need to keep the fire going on the message board.

Now I finally get to enjoy a vacation from January – start of football season.

Good luck in your future endeavors- I think glancing at your team and draft it was much like me a very poor use of FAAB that got you this year. All in all a pretty good draft.

2006 - 106th out of 330 I was led to believe that the person who posts as Gordon Gekko was Mark Srebro who won the 2004 NFFC. This person is named Jack Connors and never won a dime so far as I know. The whole act was a complete loser playing a hoax?

Mark, I thought you were going to the first to a million in fantasy winnings. You are leaving the door open for a two sport player to beat you. I don't think we can have that.

Gotta give it more than 3 years

We've never finished higher than 3rd in our own division....

yet have now played 3 times against the guys who won the first WCOFB and have finished ahead of them all 3 times

Injuries and luck man....just hang in there until it is your turn to get the breaks....and don't play in the Chicago leagues.

We've played against Edward's Kings a couple of times.....that's a great manager who has yet to win it all. Appleton Hayes is a well run team that had horrible luck this year, but they could win the $ 100,000 any year.....After playing against C.C.'s Desperados the first time out in Vegas I thought that team would win 5 of the first 10 titles.....but there are a lot of good owners in the NFBC Gekko...... that should be your draw, playing against the best...and if it all tumbles right for you one year........

Never make a decision to quit fantasy baseball at season's end. It's like deciding you're never going to drink again the morning of a hangover.

If you really are serious about quitting, keep it to yourself until Spring Training begins, then see if you haven't changed your mind. Me thinks you will. But, if not, then make the announcement.

Or is this part of a grand scheme to announce a comeback? "Gecko comes out of retirement with his new DUH strategy (Draft Unknown Hitters)", or some such thing.

Well, we're always looking for good draft facilitators in New York and we'll even pay you for your services. That's one way to make money on the baseball season.

You and Walla Walla are the only owners to officially announce your retirements on the message boards (Walla Walla in the NFFC). We hate to lose any of our original members who helped us make this idea a reality in 2004, but I understand the investment in time and money and this is definitely not an easy league to win prize money. All I can say is I agree with everyone else that it's a long, long off-season and baseball tends to tug at your heart more in February and March than it does in October after a 26-week regular season is concluded.

But you'd make a good sticker person if you want the job!

I gotta say, I've considered the same as Gekko after the first losing season I've ever had in fantasy baseball, along with the time commitment. But I think a likely outcome will be to scale back my league count, something I did this year in football which is making the season more enjoyable.

[/QUOTE]True Jack, but that's a LOT of football downtime between January and September. You can almost over study for football, don't you agree? Diversions like fantasy baseball are good for the soul and good for the mind. Winning takes care of all those time problems!!

It's funny, in my search for 2004 NFBC rankings of league champions today, I found a post that said "Walla Walla is calling it quits," similar to GG's. But Walla Walla came back for two more years and that bug may just bite our other friend too.

I guess only time will tell.

there's a lot of football downtime DURING the NFL season

Games once a week

It's the perfect fantasy sport for people who don't really like fantasy sports enough to dig in for 26 weeks of daily warfare

Why aren't you talking of quitting fantasy football Gekko ? Gotta keep the easy one going ? The one that requires no effort ?

"Oh, should I draft a running back early ? OR...a running back ? Or maybe, a running back ?"

Fantasy football isn't even an adequate time killer in between baseball seasons.
