Troy Tulowitzki (hip) said Friday that he will retire before he considers a position change.

Tulo has had two major surgeries to his left hip and groin area in the past two years and also tore his left quad in 2008. Moving to a different position would theoretically give him a better chance of staying healthy, but he's not interested. "No. It's just who I am, it's what I do, it's what I have dreamed of as a kid," said Tulowitzki. "It's all I know and it's all I've ever worked for. So I guess when you have a dream and you accomplish it and someone tries to take it away from you ... it wouldn't be worth it for me to try and move somewhere else."

That is what Tulo said......This is what he meant....

"If anybody trades for me, my ass is staying at shortstop. I know the position kicks my ass. I'm guaranteed to get hurt there.
I don't care.
I am being paid the big bucks and I like shortstop.
If you want a 'team guy' that'll change positions to help his team, look somewhere else. It ain't me, Babe".

Masahiro Tanaka (elbow) has been shut down from throwing due to "general soreness" in his pitching arm.

Tanaka said the pain he's experiencing is more in his forearm than elbow. The Yankees are saying that no doctor appointment is scheduled, so it appears to be a relatively minor setback. Still, the odds of Tanaka returning to contribute this year already weren't great and now he has less of a chance. The righty had been scheduled for a simulated game on Tuesday, but his timetable is now up in the air. Fantasy owners certainly shouldn't be counting on him.

That is what they said....

This is what they are thinking....
"We probably just should have had the surgery when it happened, instead of chasing rainbows"

'Nick Tepesch was solid through four innings, but ran into trouble in the fifth inning and ultimately took a no-decision as the Rangers fell 4-2 to the Astros on Thursday.

Tepesch got the first out of the fifth but allowed a single and a walk before he was relieved by Roman Mendez after throwing 89 pitches. Mendez loaded the bases after allowing a single, then served up a go-ahead grand slam to Jason Castro.'

Ha! I love this type of write-up!
To a fantasy owner, this is the same as the jumping out of a five story building feeling.
Tepesch and our jumper were fine after the first four.
However, Tepesch owners and the jumper finished with the same, sad fate.
That is all we need to know.

This one just flat made me laugh....

'ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Rockies are "looking at" free agent Kyle Kendrick.
Kendrick has a decent career groundball rate, which is a nice fit for the light air of Coors Field, but the 30-year-old right-hander also owns a putrid 4.42 career ERA and 4.9 career K/9 in eight major league seasons. Colorado continues to aim low.'

The Rockies are playing darts with grenades. They know they can't win, so they blow up the game.
While others are trying to pry Hamels from Philly, the Rockies go after one of the most hittable pitchers in baseball.
Sort of like bypassing Jennifer Aniston and focusing on her sister, Roseanne Barr.
No amount of sabrmetrics can save this one.
Fantasy-wise, Kendricks would join other Rockies starters who would most likely not be drafted in 30 round drafts.
It would have a great cause and effect though. If folks were amazed by some of the plays Nolan Arenado made at third base last year, imagine the many more rockets and chances with them, with Kendricks on the mound.
Gold Glove secured.

Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

"Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Marlins have "checked on" free agent Ichiro Suzuki.

Miami's outfield will be occupied in 2015 by starters Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna, and Giancarlo Stanton, so Ichiro would only be a backup. But that's probably the right role at this point for the 41-year-old, who batted just .284/.324/.340 in 143 games last season for the Yankees. Ichiro owns a rogh .662 OPS (86 OPS+) over the past four years. "

"...the 41-year-old, who batted just .284/.324/.340 in 143 games last season...". Just .284? Sure, Ichiro is not what he was and he only had 359 AB, but for every guy with at least 350 AB last year thas was able to hit .284 or better, three couldn't. It might be empty, but at least he still brings BA to the table. It seems like most MLB players have a hard time even being one trick ponies.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I think we're all beyond the point of giving batting average any weight in player valuation, aren't we? His past four years (which have been full, healthy seasons) have looked like this in terms of wRC+:

79, 90, 71, 86.

That's pretty brutal, to say the least. He's still a good baserunner and can probably still play average defense in RF, but that batting line is usually only tolerated by an elite up the middle defender, not an average defensive corner outfielder.
