The worst kind of slow drafter ... Lonnie Sparks
I am sick of this guy. He thinks the 8 hour clock means he can take 8 hours, or at least 4-5 hours, and anyone that thinks otherwise is a bully. He was on his f'in high horse 5 picks into the draft before anyone said anything to him.
And don't get me started on the new worst word in the English language - BULLY. Too many people yell bully when they cannot function in society; they often times are entitled little pricks who their mommy patted on the head from age 1 to 35 and told them they were special. They never had a tough coach, or if they did they probably quit after their first practice. Do people get legitimately bullied? Yeah, how about women throughout the Middle East. How about anyone not in power in North Korea or China. And sure, probably most kids in elementary school ...
But if someone is annoyed at your slow ass because you keep popping in and out of a draft room without picking for hours on end, that is not a bully. That is a mainstream fantasy baseball citizen tired of your p**** antics.
This math has been put on the boards many times, but some poor bullied souls don't seem to understand math, so I will do the math for you.
5 hours per pick ► appx 1 round finished every 3 days ► one DC league finished every 150 days ► 5 months ► starting on January 1 everyone will have a complete team by June
Do drafts actually go that long? NO, know why ? Because the rest of us in the draft are carrying your sorry ass. This is a competition not a welfare State. So either play along and carry your weight or go home, Lonnie Sparks.
And everyone like you.
And if you think that's bullying, you need to toughen up. A lot.

Just thought you could make a music video to this song KJ... Think it would be awesome and for some reason I relate this song to these problems you have with these slow people!

Lonnie Sparks is probably busy driving in the left hand lane of traffic in between picks going the speed limit and wondering why people keep honking at him.
Re: The worst kind of slow drafter ... Lonnie Sparks
There should be two DC options (no need for fancy clocks):
(1) I'm employed, or
(2) SSI
problem solved.

That's a great song Wagner, maybe I'll play it to calm me as I'm waiting and waiting, and waiting.wagner13454 wrote:Just thought you could make a music video to this song KJ... Think it would be awesome and for some reason I relate this song to these problems you have with these slow people!

Re: The worst kind of slow drafter ... Lonnie Sparks
I've always thought there were two fairly easy ways to fix guys like this and still enjoy the slow drafts like 99% of us do and respect the other people in the draft.
First, you can have an eight hour time clock for each pick, but ONE overall draft clock. So, for example, you have 50 picks and let's say you get 50 hours overall. You can take 8 hours only 6 times. Then, you'd only be left with 2 hours for the rest of your picks. When your time elapses, it goes to your QUE. I think this would be awesome!
Or
Second, you can upfront list the time of your pick for each pick. For example, round 1, pick 1, is at 7:01pm, pick 2 at 7:41pm, pick 3 at 8:21pm, etc. etc. etc.
I believe either of these 2 options would alleviate some frustrations in the "slow drafts".

KJ, I've got a serious question for you and the other vets.
Would you find value in seeing a number associated with the names on a list of DC registrants that conveys the pace at which they conduct their drafts? Kindof like the feedback rating system on eBay?
For a year now I've toyed with the idea of setting up an independent web page on a free site which gives everyone the ability to rate the pace of the managers they've been in drafts with earlier in the offseason. No ads, no fees, just a fairly plain page with the ability for you to search the name of a manager and see their average pace rating as given by their fellow drafters.
Perhaps also I could add a few signup lists with qualifiers such as "East Coast only drafters" or "Six-to-Eight rounds per day drafters". Once a list was filled I could forward it to Greg at STATS to register as a private league much like the way the Fast/Slows are handled. But not only for guys who want to draft quickly. We could make a list for guys wanting only 2-4 rounds a day max.
I really think it would help add more leagues if we could find ways to get "like-minded" drafters grouped into private leagues rather than everyone rolling the dice on the first-come-first-served signup lists STATS uses now. Nothing wrong with registering that way if you want to get a random group of guys though.
What do you think? I don't want to go to the effort if no one would use the ratings.

Given the nature of league signups I'm not sure it would be all that helpful. An essay on draft etiquette attached to every DC sign-up email would probably be a lot more beneficial with minimal effort.
Re: The worst kind of slow drafter ... Lonnie Sparks
There's merit to your suggestion however we can't force people to read their email and then there's the problem of all NFBC mail addressed to managers with AOL accounts being refused by the ISP.KJ Duke wrote:Given the nature of league signups I'm not sure it would be all that helpful. I'm guessing the reach of XM Radio pulls in new registrants all the time and they sortof have an excuse.
Guys who say "I average only 1 hour on the clock per pick" maybe need to be in a league with eachother so the 31-day pace doesn't bother anyone.

My solution has been to do drafts that MTM or Doughy get up....Resolved my issues with "SLOW" drafters....
....Of course, these leagues are usually loaded with the talented and some of the best which leaves me little chance of any ROI.

Yes, I agree with the ROI part.uky wrote:My solution has been to do drafts that MTM or Doughy get up....Resolved my issues with "SLOW" drafters........Of course, these leagues are usually loaded with the talented and some of the best which leaves me little chance of any ROI.
I was thinking of something where the slow drafters could get together too. And, unfortunately, the MTM style of fast/slows state right in the invitation that they are exclusive. There should be an option for the rest of the people wanting to draft with like-minded managers.

There's a problem with your reckoning. Not once have I ever heard a slow drafter ask for others to slow down too.Deadheadz wrote:Yes, I agree with the ROI part.uky wrote:My solution has been to do drafts that MTM or Doughy get up....Resolved my issues with "SLOW" drafters........Of course, these leagues are usually loaded with the talented and some of the best which leaves me little chance of any ROI.

Quite the opposite. They rely on others faster pace.
It makes the draft enjoyable for THEM. And not the other 14 poor souls.
They do not want to be in a 40 day draft.
They want to drive 30 mph in a 60 mph zone. They know that others will be passing. Also knowing they can take all the time they want and have a clear road in their lane.
Most don't even care about getting flipped off by passers.
It's just too bad that somebody can't take away their keys.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

I have found this to be exactly the case in all drafts that contain "speed bump owners." The only time the pace bothers them is when they have to wait on another owner. Had a draft last week where an owner burned 3-4 prime hours in the #3 slot then bitched because the #1 took 15 minutes between their two picks.
I used to think that "speed bump owners" would be bad for NFBC draft business. Now am starting to consider the option that they may be NFBC shills forcing draft addicts (like myself) to sign up for additional leagues to get their fix.

This has crossed my mind too but I will confess I am a conspiracy theorist. Very, very unlikely here. I really believe that more leagues of 15 guys on the same page would drive registrations up.

Re: The worst kind of slow drafter ... Lonnie Sparks
During football season, I was in a DC with some really slow drafters. I, personally, am the drafting equivalent of Usain Bolt, so this was like living among statues. Sometime in the later rounds, I set auto one round and went to Rocky Mountain National Park for the morning. Improbably, we had a run of picks and I found myself staring at a short clock when I finally got cell service again. I noticed in the chat that somebody was bitching at me for slowing down the draft. He got cussed out. Then I probably pissed away another pick on Cody Latimer.
