Doubleheader DC: Let's Play Two • season 2 (FULL)

Post by KJ Duke » Sat Feb 07, 2015 6:45 pm

Image It's been a few years since I've tried a new league concept. I no longer play or manage any keeper leagues because the longer-term commitment and replacing lesser teams can become drudgery over time. But I miss drafting players for next season. So how about a 2-year league that allows owners to carryover their best picks for a second season ?

Here's the format.
• Two-year Private Keeper League format (not part of the overall contest)
• 50 rounds with Draft Champion rules hosted on the NFBC site
• Keep up to 10 players from this year's draft for 2016
• Entry fee $925 this year, $525 next year
• Top 3 in 2015 pays $5000/ $2500/ $1500
• Top 3 in 2016 pays $5000/ $2500/ $1500
• Top 2 in combined points after two seasons pays $2000/ $1000 bonus

Keeper Rules
For 2016, each team can protect 10 players from the 2015 draft. Protected players will take the place of 2016 draft picks for the same round in which they were drafted in 2015. All teams must submit their protected player list by January 31, 2016 (year 2 entry fees will be due two weeks prior to that). There will no trading of players or picks. Drafted players must be in or expected to be added to the STATS player pool (no 50th round fliers on college players!). ▬ In year 2 owners will select draft slots on Feb 1; 4th place will have first choice followed by 5th to 15th, then 3rd to 1st. ▬

Non-Returning Owners
No owner is obligated to return for the 2016 season, however owners that choose not to return for 2016 will be ineligible for all second-season prizes including the 2-season combined score payout. Any owner taking over an abandoned team in 2016 can do so at the lower second-season entry fee and would be eligible for all 2016 prizes including the combined score bonus using the previous owner's score from season one.

Doubleheader DC, begins Friday, Feb 13th or thereafter when full
Slow Draft with 8-hour clock, but owners must be text-able and able to keep up with a 5+rounds per day pace

9 • Marc Perlmutter
10 • Erik Karlovic
11 • Mike Massotto
12 • Dan Semsel

Like the NFBC Keeper and MLBC private leagues that I've started in the past, the entry fee will consist of $125 to the NFBC plus a private side pool with the side pool paying out 100%.

Is the $125 fee included in the $925?

Yes, and $1500 of the prize payout would come from the NFBC.

Interesting concept. I'm interested. Please put me down for this.

So, the $1500 from NFBC is split $1000-$375-$125 with the remaining monies coming from the $800 side money? Isn't the DC entry $150 not $125? Or, is this under the $125 Satelite sign up.

Either way, I'am interested.

Add my name please.

Thomas Warner

How is year 2 draft order determined? Maybe KDS for 2016 could be 4-15, 3-1 from 2015 final standings. Might add additional incentive for teams out of money chase.

Luny, the NFBC will pay $1500 to 1st with all other payouts coming from the private pool. The entry would be $125 since nothing is going towards the overall. The league isn't listed on the signup page, we'll get that going as we get closer.

Yes, forgot to post but I agree with that for year 2. Money teams would pick last while 4-15 can choose their draft slot in that order. Will add to rules above.

Quick question.
What's the reasoning of year 2 fees being $400 less than year 1? Is that to entice returning owners to be back even if they finish near the bottom of the pack?

Yes, like any keeper league bad teams are less likely to return, and with only 1 more year to play in this format you can't "build for the future". So the year 2 payout is well over 100% to incentivize teams to return or make it easy to replace them.

Though an interesting format as usual KJ, there is one potential problem I see. If a team so botches the initial season by leaving itself a total mess for protects year 2 and feels it has zero chance at cashing that 2nd season, why would it throw good money after bad with no future incentive available as is the case with typical keeper or dynasty leagues. And why would a replacement owner buy in if the team was in such a state. Even at a reduced entry, $400 is still $400 and zero chance at winning even at 150% ROI is still zero chance.

I'd agree if there were too many keepers, but with 40 of 50 players being new picks I don't think I'll have a problem replacing bad teams given the high ROI. As you know from the contract league, teams that go cheap give up a huge player edge but can still surprise ...there's enough variation with injuries and under-performance that even a dominant-looking team in February is no lock.

Also, there's no such thing as zero chance with a good owner drafting 50 new players even if he had zero protect-able players ... but if that were to happen we simply auction off the dead-looking team to the highest bidder and reduce the year two private pay by a few bucks to offset.

Looks like an interesting format. Count me in (assuming a start some time this week as planned).

Sounds interesting. I could be persuaded to jump in depending on how the league rounds out.

Your spot is reserved. If some cryptonite floats up against you let me know ...

4 spots to go ... if we sell out in the next 6.5 hours we'll have filled a new concept in less than 24 hours. That would be a successful launch! 8-)

So slow draft just became a three day or less experience. Lol

As usual a great concept from Kevin - sadly I will have to watch this year but I will put my name first on the list to take an abandoned team (or be in a dispersal draft if more than one of the year one players fails to return).
