The BEST place to stay in Vegas
The BEST place to stay in Vegas
I've tried a few hotels for the NFBC events held at the Bellagio. The best hotel was the Four Seasons. But too far from NFBC events. A long unpleasant walk or a short cab ride then you have a long walk through the Bellagio to the draft rooms.
The Bellagio, you would think, would be great. But for the money, the rooms aren't really worth it and are not even all that close to the NFBC events.
The second best hotel I've stayed at in Vegas is the Vdara. Tucked in right behind the Bellagio, you are closer to the Rafeal and DaVinci ballrooms than even the Bellagio Towers. (If you want to gamble, you can either hop on a tram to two other casinos or continue walking to the Bellagio's casino.). The Vdara is much more of a boutique hotel than it is a blIng bling Vegas mega hotel.
I love being able to leave my room, and while walking indoors, in five minutes be ready to draft or mingle with other NfBCers. And get to stay in a great, quiet hotel too.
Rooms normally aren't cheap at the Vdara, the least-expensive delux suites usually go for more than $500 per night. But they are running some special promotions right now. I just booked my room, taxes and 'resort fee' included, for less than $200 per night. Google the Vdara to get a general idea about the place, but don't book there on the home page or you'll pay full rates. Use this link for special promotions and pick a promotion that suits you and your arrival date: http://vdara.com/promotions/default.aspx#offers
I took them up on the "bed and breakfast" promotion one as they threw in $50 per day in suite breakfast comps.
Anyways, the Vdara. Check it out. A great hotel. A great location. My number one pick, hands down.

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
Thanks Robert. That's a great call. The Bellagio rooms are much more expensive that First Weekend because of a huge convention they have going on there and we still haven't gotten a discount room block, so places like Vdara and Cosmopolitan are great choices with the Tram coming right to the back end of the Bellagio Convention Center. If anyone else sees some deals in Vegas, feel free to post here. Thanks all.

Greg,
For anyone that has an M-Life card you can get a ridiculous deal from the Luxor Hotel. A 10 minute walk to Monte Carlo and then a quick free tram ride to Bellagio. I got $79 for four nights! That's $79 total, not each night. Here is the link I used:

My wife and I are staying at Vdara for the first time. Based on what you wrote, it sounds nice and am I reading correctly that Vdara has an indoor walkway to Bellagio?Rainiers wrote:The second best hotel I've stayed at in Vegas is the Vdara. Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Yes, the Tram comes right into the Convention Center, down one flight of stairs and the first room is the Da Vinci Ballrooms. So on that side where the Spa Tower is (home of Thursdays party and auctions). It's a great staying option.Edwards Kings wrote:My wife and I are staying at Vdara for the first time. Neat. I am tempted to explore Mr. Dobies options, but since Vdara is so close to Bellagio (and shopping for my wife), I think we will stay where we are at.
Thanks for the information.
A few more weeks, friends. Cannot wait.

I wish I was staying a little closer too Wayne but saving $400-500 (at least!) was a no-brainer, plus I need the exercise!!

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
Vdara has been my go-to choice since it opened about 5 years ago; walkway from hotel right into the convention center, upscale rooms, nice coffee shop and bar that isn't over-crowded and better service than the big gaming hotels. Also a short walk to Aria casino on the other side. Only downside is they keep jacking the daily resort fee every year (like most of LV). Jockey Club is another good option ... short walk to Bellagio, rooms not as nice but they do have full kitchen and you can use the cosmo pool (elevator goes straight into cosmo casino). Jockey is one of the last with no resort fee and rates usually average ~$100. I bounce between these two hotels each year based on the price gap. Cosmo very nice too but I rarely see deals there.

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
Dobies is spot on. Your best move is to sign up for MLife and use the card while there. After that first stay you will never pay the normal rates again. There are about eight hotels (Bellagio included) that will present offers of free/ reduced accommodations year round. Some hotels will still cost more than others. The good thing is that you don't necessarily have to gamble that much to get these deals. If the Bellagio is a must-stay for some, as an Mlife member you will typically get much better rates than the discounts offered by the NFBC. Last year, I stayed at the Monte Carlo for four nights and it ran me less than $100. I could have stayed at the Luxor, Excalibur or New York New York for the same rate. The Monte Carlo offers a tram to the Bellagio. I believe this tram is accessed by Aria, Crystals, Vdara and the Monte Carlo. Once off the tram, when you enter the Bellagio entrance you are literally an escalator ride away from the draft rooms. Super convenient.

Love the Vdara, my go-to for NFBC also. Thanks for the discount link!

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
The Caesars/Harrahs properties offer the same type of discount rates as the M life properties do with their Total Rewards program. I have both M life and Total Rewards cards, but always stay at Caesars Palace. Creature of habit, plus very close to the Bellagio for baseball and the center of the three fantasy football hotels (Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Mirage) in September.
Nonetheless, I'd agree whatever you do, sign up for one or both of these cards. Even if you don't gamble, you garner points for purchases, food, etc. and get discount offers throughout the year.
Good luck everyone and see you in 5 weeks.

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
Just an FYI: I am talking with our Bellagio sales rep to make it easy for our members to get an MLife card and any amenities that MGM offers. We hope to have something set up at the Las Vegas drafts that allows you to sign up quickly and easily for these. We need to have better offerings for stays, restaurants and shows for our members who take the time, effort and money to travel to Las Vegas and the Bellagio agrees. So look for that in March.

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
BTW, not only is Luxor under $100 for the entire 4 nights you also get a $50 resort credit to apply to your bill so the stay is almost free.
Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
Just checked the Vdara through southwest and it is $846 per person with flight where the Bellagio is still around $750.
I dont have any Mlife rewards and I am interested in the Linq through Caesars rewards which is $754 a person with flight.
Dont know why the Bellagio is so cheap through southwest right now.

I stayed at the Cosmopolitan last August. Definitely geared towards the younger crowd -- not recommended for older folks.
FYI Greg: yes, I am including myself in that group!

Thanks to everyone touting the Mlife cards. I didn't know about them, sounds like they are definitely worth checking out. Greg, I'll be looking for the info in March, and thanks for making it easy.Greg Ambrosius wrote:Just an FYI: I am talking with our Bellagio sales rep to make it easy for our members to get an MLife card and any amenities that MGM offers. I'll stick with my pick of the Vdara as the Best convience/quality/value stay, but the Luxor deal All-inJD found is a crazy good price.
Nice advice too from KJ Duke on hotel options...if the Vdara gets too spendy next year, I'll check out his other top pick...the Jockey Club.

Re: The BEST place to stay in Vegas
We stay at the Hilton Grand Vacations behind Flamingo. Its more of a condo than a hotel (no casino in it, but there a pool, spa, and some other stuff), and they let you use all of the Flamingo amenities. The room is big, has a separate living room and a full kitchen, quiet, no drunken fools running around the halls at 3am. I usually spend a week in Vegas, attending a work conference, visiting fam/friends, and the NFBC drafts, so its better than being in a hotel room the whole week. I can usually get it for about $150/night, and since I travel enough with work, I can usually pay for it with Hilton points.
