Good ole boy network vs "The others". 6 vs 6 with alternating draft slots. cumulative point total vs cumulative point toal

It sure seems that way at times Glenn...I've pretty much felt this way when it comes to a few of the regulars on this board. I likened it to a Country Club, where the current members want nothing to do with the newbies. LOLGlenneration X wrote:Jeez, I'm so sick of those ridiculous terms.... What was it that Snake used to call it on the football boards... the Chum Chum Club?
Way too often when someone's ideas or opinions or mindless chatter aren't immediately embraced around these parts, they blame it on one or all of the above. There's no such thing. There's no mysterious group, no secret society. There's just comments to initial posts that called for them. If they are universal in their condemnation, maybe the one being condemned should look within at himself and what he's contributing instead of out at the message board community he's looking to contribute to.
Ledbetters, instead of blaming this non-existent club, how about you please just bring something worthwhile to the table and spew a little less venom.
I'm sorry you feel that way Bruce. I can't really explain why though. I can't recall seeing any time that any of your posts were reacted to in a manner that would make you feel that way.Steel Lugnuts wrote:It sure seems that way at times Glenn...I've pretty much felt this way when it comes to a few of the regulars on this board. The Good Ole Boy Network sounds about right, at least how that's how I felt a couple years ago. I gave up commenting or making suggestions on this board since, so not sure what it's like nowadays. I do remember it getting pretty heated when the regulars don't like you or your ideas, like they own the joint.

Seems like Deadheadz has a new sidekick in Yellow Ledbetter. I, for one would be interested in doing a draft with Deadheadz, Yellow Ledbetter, KJ, COZ,Gekko and whoever else want to put their money where their mouth is. The Royal Rumble of baseball.
We can post the draft results and we track the stands on the message board as the season goes along. This would definitely be really great theater.
The chat room comments alone would be priceless...
Please sign me up for this entertaining draft(regardless of the price)

Far too long, these message boards have been silent, so it is actually entertaining to have some back and forth jawing about who is better, etc. There always has to be a heel in the group to make it work (Go look at the WWE business model), so having someone think they are better than the group that has proven it year end and year out is entertaining. Does that mean I agree with him? Not in the slightest, as these are the best of the best that end up here and it is very likely he ends up eating crow at season's end, but in the meanwhile it is entertaining to see a fly buzzing about all the sharks.![]()
I will say that this is all about respect, at least what it looks like from an outsiders view. But just like in life, respect is earned and not given. These "Good Ole Boys" have gotten the respect because they can actually back it up from tangible evidence. Does that mean that Yellow can't win or should stop talking? Not in the slightest (Plus where would the fun be in that?). But from experience Vegas would make some of these guys huge favorites to win in a head to head battle. But that is what makes the NFBC so great. Any given year, the little fly and can buzz his way up to the top. Maybe one of these years, this mosquito can make it there.
I will say I thought this way once. All about winning money. Not here to make friends. Then a few years back after getting my ass handed to me for a couple of years, I decided to blog about my team and follow in Edwards King's footstep by blogging about the other main event. Through that, I started to interact with some of my competitors, and wasn't worried about anyone's negativity, because hey, who the hell am I to say what's right and wrong on how to build a team or who to get. Anyways, back on topic. Through that blog, I was able to really see what the NFBC is all about, not only the competition that is out there but the family-ness (Just made up a word) of the people who play this game when my dad died suddenly last season in the middle of my first great run in the Online Championship finishing in the top 10. Some of these so called "Good Ole Boys" reached out to someone out of their "group" and were there to do the simple things, like talk baseball when they could have easily not said anything and moved back to their teams and I would have been none the wiser.
This year I'm hoping to strike up more conversations among these people who come to these events. Not because it help my ROI and the me against the world attitude, but because part of the ROI for me has become getting to know some of these guys. There aren't too many fantasy nuts, as even Yellow himself has said, that are willing to talk baseball with you at all hours of the day. That alone is worth more than getting a better ROI in my opinion. But like you said Yellow, I'm just a little mosquito, so who cares about my opinion.
I have to disagree with you, Glenn. As a card-carrying member of the NFBC Illuminati, you damn well know that we can't let his kind in or you of that matter.Glenneration X wrote:Jeez, I'm so sick of those ridiculous terms.... Good Ole Boy Network, Inner Circle, Illuminati, Old Guard, etc. etc.

I think the NFBC is like walking into anyplace where you are new, and others are not.Steel Lugnuts wrote: It sure seems that way at times Glenn...I've pretty much felt this way when it comes to a few of the regulars on this board. Try doing a DC with this arse. Someone in the league ruffled his feathers and he decided to spend the second half of the draft purposely stalling on his 8 hours not making a pick to spite the league.Yah Mule wrote:
Like some other posters here, I find it hard to dislike this guy. His flop sweat drenched attempts to troll Coz were so cartoonishly over-the-top it was practically performance art.
I would definitely have a worse opinion about him if I had been in that draft. I cut way back on DC's this year because of behavior like that.mdecav wrote:Try doing a DC with this arse. I feel this was a very insightful post that takes human nature into account.Yah Mule wrote:I think a lot of times a new poster will come to a board and see the banter between long time posters and they're over eager to get involved. If people ignore their initial attempts to join in with the group, they start trying harder to get noticed. This shot-out-of-a-cannon approach almost always backfires and soon they're attracting negative attention. They're already feeling rejected by the group so they decide negative attention is better than being ignored and a troll is born. I've seen this scenario play out with people on all kinds of message boards over the years. One other aspect about the NFBC board that's different than most is there's an entry fee (in draft dues) to become a pariah on this board.
