In Years 1 and 2, we had this rabble-rouser named Gordon Gekko who proclaimed himself as the greatest fantasy baseball and football player who was taking down the $100,000 grand prize in both sports. He missed in baseball, but he won the first $100,000 in football and nobody doubted him again. Now he looks like the nice guy on the boards!! Wow. And you missed the whole Nathan Noy first two years; he was Deadheadz before there was a Deadheadz!! Man, he drove guys just crazy and he drank.....oh, never mind.

I think we're all just getting antsy for Vegas, NYC, and Chicago and for those live drafts and season to start. Plus I'm sure Ledbetters will be getting his medication refill once his neighborhood pharmacy opens up tomorrow. Things will get quieter again soon. Maybe we won't reach library quiet, but.....

Doughy, I pretty much missed out on the Dyv era. By the time I arrived on the scene, Dyv was pretty much a part time player here and part time presence on the boards. Though I do recall one time in my first year or two, Greg warning me off for my own protection of Dyv's slashing ways when it looked like we were in a disagreement over Fanball or something. But Dyv was respectful and I was respectful back, so I guess I was spared the knife.

I also didn't see much of Chest Rockwell, Potter, Nathan Noy or some of the others in their heyday. Though Gekko was still causing quite a bit of controversy and the boards were definitely more active and combative than they typically are these days around when I first showed up on the scene, it sounds like those first days put even then to shame.

Still, it musta been interesting back in those wild times. From what I hear, those times on these boards make these last couple days seem like the Nickelodeon boards.

It's funny how those were the "good 'ol days." I could fill up a whole Main Event league with the number of people who said they would leave or did leave because of Gekko's posts...in both sports!! I never suppressed the First Amendment in the NFBC and NFFC (until now) and it all worked out. Heck, by Year 2 the two biggest instigators (Gekko and Dyv) were sharing an NFFC Ultimate team!! They were good days.

The NFBC wouldn't be around today without Dyv. He helped us in Year 1, our only year where we lost a bunch of money!!! He helped us build the foundation, even if it was costly. He recruited 20+ owners in a year when we finished with 195 teams. He was amazing and he's still around. He's just recently married and raising a good family. That takes more time than posting here. Same with many of the others you mentioned.

Some day they will say "when that Doughboys wrote, man, those were the good ol' days!!" See, these are the good ol' days.

Here's why it was so wild on our Message Boards and WCOFF's Message Boards in the early days: There was no past history for anyone and thus everyone smack talked about winning their local leagues for the last decade. The bravado had nothing to back up but words. Secondly, there were really only Main Event drafts, so you had 8 months in football and 6+ months in baseball to brag before anyone really drafted. It was just 6 months of what we saw today with Gekko pushing his chest out farther than anyone else, no matter how far they pushed out!!

The WCOFF boards in 2002 and 2003 were MUST READ every day. They just hated Gekko over there. I loved it when he joined us in 2004. I knew right away the bravado was egging folks on and into the contests. Then he went out and won $100,000. Lenny wanted no part of him and he wins it all here in football!! That was wild. But after a couple of years of competition and with more online drafts during the off-season, the bravado was either justified or it wasn't. Results dictated who could brag and who couldn't, and those who could brag usually weren't on the boards. Now you can chat in DC leagues, via social media, Twitter and other outlets, so the boards are used far less than ever before.

But they are still the playground where we all meet each day, at the very least to check in. Tom and I try to keep them active when we can and to provide draft results, some STATS data and more. But being the playground police has never been fun and it's the least favorite part of this job. Stop making this a chore everyone.

One of Ryan's first mandates during our brief tenure at Fanball was to eliminate the Message Boards. Tom and I said NO WAY. He thought they were detrimental to the growth of our contest. We knew it was our best promotional vehicle. It would be like cutting off our legs. It was one battle we won, thankfully. Oh boy, now I'm getting a headache. Gotta go take 4 Excedrin before our radio show. All this reminiscing brings back some bad memories. Oh well.

Those Fanball times were pretty ugly at times.
I sort of led the charge against Ryan. He was so woeful on these Boards, it is no wonder to me that he wanted them removed.
We knew that You and Tom were in a bad spot with Ryan and Fanball. Sometimes we held our tongues, most times not.
Theodore Roosevelt was heard to say, "You know what we need? We need a war. Nothing gets the economy and brings us together better than war."
Same here.
After a day like this we have to be more together, since we couldn't be any more apart!

In a couple of days, I'll give you the names of drafters in the Mia League.
The Mia League is comprised mostly of so-called 'Good Ole Boys' who all kind of 'adopted' the Martin Family as their little girl, Mia, was going through two surgeries on her brain.
They waited on pins and needles before Roger let us know that it looked like everything was going to be ok.
The same Good Ole Boys that offered to donate any money won to the Martin Family.
The fellas that still call Roger to check in and see if Mia is still doing ok.
And now, Mia looks forward to calling out the draft order each year for this league.
It is awesome.

Well, I guess this is my Q to jump into the fray. I attempted to ask that we put this behind us and the responses were of vindication for the sanctity of those involved and the game itself. Glenn thanks Mr. Childs for his analysis and taking the time that the "Accuser" did not. I take exception to Shawn's few sentences that carry a lot of weight with those that follow the boards.

Shawn, when doing your in depth analysis did you have access to the standings when these decisions were made? If not did you do the do diligence to back track each team stats (including ratios) each week so that you had a proper perspective? To look at a 4-6 week period as a whole and make assumptions is irresponsible. This is a week to week game, for hitters a Monday to Friday to Monday game. Decisions made in week 24 for a category that pan out or not have no business being tied to assumptions because a team loses that category by many, 3 weeks later. If you weren't part of it or at least properly recreate each week including category standings you cannot accurately assert yourself into the conversation.

Invoke code of conduct, I'm sure you think you have the authority to.

I apologize for a couple of lines that I took a shot. I was frustrated by an outsider interpreting the 2014 results of the Platinum as negative to the event plus it wasn't fair to the owners who have long long resumes in this event. This whole situation was sad all around.

I have access to the league (managing partner with Jim's team) and I followed it closely. In every league at all points of the year, you never know who your real final competitors will be. Your team started catch fire in week 18 (170 runs, 49 HR's, 179 RBI, and 19 SB's) thanks to a hot month from Ortiz, Carter, Jones, LaRoche, and Cano (33 HR's).

On August 10th, you won MIke Fiers $37-$27 (We were runner ups). This was the week you lost Anibal Sanchez. Over that previous weekend, we moved into first place a couple of times over the weekend (I thought it was important for you to win Fiers and we tried to block). It was also the week Team Johnson was fishing for a replacement for Tanaka. His season was probably saved by Carlos Carrasco who he won $6 to $5. Wainwright appeared to be on the ropes with his whip just came off a brutal weeks (Week 18 - ERA: 4.231 and Whip: 1.455 and Week 19 -ERA: 3.83 and Whip: 1.617).

When the event entered September, no one knew your team would play poorly or who would play well. So when a team sets their lineup with a month or 3 weeks to go, they don't know who they are helping or hurting.

In every league, teams will chase wins and K's with hopes of maintaining ERA or whip. Without risk, there is no reward. Your read on someone worrying about ratios couldn't more wrong. They don't care with a month to go. You can't move up in the standings without more volume of innings.
