Mookie "Minor Leaguer" Betts!!

Post by Gekko » Fri Feb 20, 2015 3:41 pm

Per Rotoworld...

"Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that Shane Victorino will start in right field.

It's bad news for Mookie Betts, who most considered the favorite to start in right. Betts could wind up battling Rusney Castillo for the center field job or also might wind up back in the minors. Of course, the odds of both Victorino and Hanley Ramirez both staying healthy throughout the season aren't high, so Betts stands a good chance at playing a lot regardless. Still, there's no doubt this news puts a damper on his fantasy prospects."

I'm sorry to the owners who drafted him earlier this offseason. Early reports had owners gambling on him in the 8th round.

I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but why didn't owners discount him with all the OF the Red sox have. 8th round is a heavy price to pay for a guy who was always behind Victorino on the playing time chart. Did owners actually think Boston would sit Victorino and his monster contract for Betts. Shame on the owners who didn't put 2 and 2 together

You have to read between the lines here:

"Shane Victorino is healthy and he will start in RF" (please somebody read this and give us anything to trade him to you).

Victorino can't stay healthy and he's not better than Betts. Time will tell, you'll see. ;)

The thing I find interesting about Betts is do you really think Pedroia is going to play 155 games at 2b? He gets a lot more interesting as Jose Altuve light.

The issue I see is if you want him to be your speed anchor and guess wrong that is a big uphill battle.

I gave up on trying to guess Mark's goals in pumping or dumping a player on here a long time ago. I just look forward to seeing you and saying hello in Vegas.

I will be sending John Farrell an Edible Arrangement with extra mangos as thanks for the buying opportunity.

In case anybody doesn't know, Victorino has been texting Farrell pictures of his abs this winter in an attempt to keep his job (or possibly gain a boyfriend). You would say anything to make that stop, too.

"Red Sox manager John Farrell said Friday that Shane Victorino will start in right field."

this is as surprising as it snowing in the winter.

victorino is owed $13 million and while hurt last year wasnt all that bad in 2013. i dont think he is completely done but you cant just have $13 mil ride the pine, at least not initially. The sox also still have allen craig. he was god awful last year but he had a real nice looking 2013. where does he play? as of now... nowhere. napoli is coming back from a painful sounding surgery, big papi is one year older, and as posted pedroia is falling apart. castillo probably isnt a sure thing in center and who knows if hanram starts bitching about LF. the sox have some nice pieces but as greg noted they are pretty desperate for an injury bug to strike hold in the early spring so they can unload some of these guys. maybe bogaerts really struggles in the spring and they move hanram to shortstop to open up a OF spot? could happen.

i also think that the red sox should deal swihart if he is the piece holding up the hamels deal. hamels makes this team legit and while swihart looks nasty who knows... who knows. how many awesome catcher prospects have come and gone only to see molina brothers etc linger around forever?

Since there hasn't been much baseball talk on the boards and we are early in the OC season i'll post my latest Mookie Betts' led team:

Y. Gomes
J. Castro
Frazier
D. Murphy
Peralta
J. Harrison
C. Utley
Brandon Moss
C. Gomez
Brantley
MOOKIE BETTS
Soler
Pollock
Cuddyer

Kluber
Greinke
Darvish
Arrieta
Latos
Kazmir
Hutchinson
Melancon
Rondon

R. Howard/Owings/Hammel/Pomeranz/Balfour/Neshek/C. Janssen

Gotta love those 12 teamers! Every team looks like an All-Star team (until the season starts). Could be BA challenged and need to find a third closer. A little easier of course in the 12 Team.

You get 6 games a week. 18 OF starts. Castillo and Hanley 5 a week and betts and victorino 4 a week until someone gets hurt, sucks or Vic gets traded. Granted he was being over drafted to begin with, but this is way overblown. Talent always wins out, unless you're managed by Dusty Baker.

Absolutely NOT going to happen - not sure why you would even suggest it

Why? Farrell likes to keep his guys fresh. Only three players managed under him have ever played more than 150 in a season(two we're 151). Your LF has never played there before and has played 115 games once in the past 4 years. Your CF didn't play in 2013 and has a career high of 113 GP in the Cuban league and Victorino is coming of back surgery and like Hanley has had the same injury problem in three of the past 4 years. It's well within reason to think they rotate for the first month(or until it plays itself out) to keep them fresh down the stretch. Didn't say this would happen all season.
