Love seeing him in the top 20. And why not with improved table setters and he shouldnt be hitting leadoff this year means more RBI opportunities and protection.

Correct, but with both premiums these guys go ahead of many Top 10 first basemen in the draft, which is how I rank them overall. Actually, you'd take Martinez as a first baseman ahead of Youkilis and Swisher, I'm sure. what premiums? that they qualify at a lesser position ? It's a premium if they have dual positioning in more equal positions (ie ss-2b / of-1b). If you are using V.Mart at 1b then you are doing a POOR job of maximizing your lineup. V Mart as a 1b shouldnt even be considered for 1b lists. Then again your mag circulation kind of dwarfs mine
Q [/QUOTE]we're on the same page Q
I'd place his auction value right around that of the #10 1b, but if I actually have to play him there I'm getting the prodcn of a #20-25 1b ... as a 1b he's a 14th rounder, as a C he's a 4th rounder --- seems strange to rank him high as a 1b

Youkilis is probably a wash - I don't have that east coast bias love for him like some do.
On Shealy, I think you're right ... I've neglected him, gotta take a closer look there.

Greg, I am with Q and KJ on this.
No, Victor Martinez should NOT make the list at 1B and certainly not in the Top 20 maybe not Top 30
No, Howie Kendrick should NOT make the list at 1B - he should be on the 2B list
I actually think players with multiple position eligibility should only be placed on the list where they have the most value (and then the other positions they are eligible for in parens).
You don't want to suggest to your readers to draft VMart at 1B do you? That would be a LARGE error.
As for Shealy, I don't think he makes the Top 20 - certainly not until he clearly has the job for the Royals who have some tough roster decisions to make next spring.

I have V Mart listed as #17, but agree with Q, he would never be used there. Sorry Kendrik doesn't make the top 20 1b's whether he would be used there or not.

Of course, I could be crazy, because I also had V-Mart as #19. You are all probably right that as a CM, there are probably better choices. But he ain't bad and while I would never offer as a viable strategy stocking your roster with an extra catcher (kind of like using a TE as your flex player in fantasy football), he could give you a little flexability.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I kind of like Shealy also, but he just doesn't make the top 20. too many other good choices and there is uncertainty with Shealy. Maybe good upside though.

youk was slightly banged up towards the end of the season and he was playing his first full season as an everday player. The entire team had a drastic drop off in performance and what do you expect when papi has a heart monitor and manny dosent want to play and the lineup consisted of 4 or 5 guys that really had no business starting.

Where would YOU bat him ?? 1st 2nd 6th ? I dont think Crisp can cut it at leadoff. Youk's not a traditional leadoff type but he's good for an 8 pitch ab and seemed to be on base alot for papi and manny jacks.

Since they don't run in Boston I guess he's fine. fantasy wise though he's very mediocre with no steals and limited power. There's lots of excellent 1b's to choose from leaving him to the lower rounds.

Yeah,
I agree Coco will be a bust at leadoff this year
