So, with the signing of Lugo, what does that:

1) Do to his value? Will they have him lead-off?

2) What does that do to Youk's value? Will he bat second or down in the line-up?

3) What to do with Coco Crisp (no milk jokes, please!)?

Need to wait and see i guess. I don't think it's the best place for Lugo to land though. Even if he leads off. he may hit for good average and score runs. I don't think he'll steal much though. Red Sox gospel, thou shalt play station to station baseball waiting for the 3 run "jimmyjack". Carl Everett stopped running soon as he got there. Damon's steals were way down while he was there, and those hoping for Crisp being a 25 25 guy were sorely disapointed. Didn't bother arguing with them last year. Just let them take Crisp WAY too early hoping for things that were very unlikely. That's coming from a guy that kind of likes Crisp. If he were playing elsewhere.

Except Crisp did steal 22 in only 105 games last season, not to mention Damon swiped over 30 bases his first 2 years in Fenway, dropping to 18/19 his last 2 years due to injury more than anything. Actually, one reason for the Drew and Lugo signings is to help Boston get more athletic. I don't think we'll see 50 bags from Lugo, but 30 is not out of the realm.

Actually, I like the signings (crazy money that it is) the BoSox have done. I think it is good for Lugo. They will plug him in at shortstop, give him 575+ at bats, and with those sticks behind him (not to mention he has a little pop on his own), he will be one of the strongest sources of runs in Fantasy baseball.

This hurts Youkilis. I think they will put him in the #2 hole, which means he will be taking some pitches as all good #2's do. Still, good runs, good average, but I do not know about his long term power potential. Is he a 15 HR guy or a 25 HR guy?

I like Drew as well. He has been a little more healthy than some folks give him credit for. Playing West Coast (except SF) and in the comfy confines of the weather at Chavez Ravine could have helped. Does it ever get cold in Boston in September?

The Yanks are vunerable. The Orioles front office is run by Huey, Dewey and Louie. Toronto may yet be missing some pieces. This could be the year the BoSox make it back to the Series...to play the Braves?

Lugo has a career .340 obp and will be 32 in '07. He'll post nice #'s in 07 but now that he's wearing a bosox uniform he'll most likely be overvalued come draft day. Just like he was last year.

What's the over/under on games played by J.D. Drew? My guess would be somewhere around 120.

With the cash in his pocket and his track record, I'll take the under.

Drew has all the talent in the world, but doesn't seem to care. At best, I might consider giving him a minor league contract with incentives, but that's it. I'm very surprised Theo gave this guy a 5 year deal for $70 million.....WOW! If half of the things I've heard about him are true, I wouldn't want him on my team. Yes, its theoretically possible he'll work out for the Red Sox, but this is a very low percentage play in my opinion.

80-125 games.

Every once in a while my time on the memorablilia circuit gives me what I think is a little insight in to the game.

JD Drew is not as much a jerk as a guy who just does not seem to have any passion about anything in life, kind of a glass is half empty guy. I agree with everyone Boston will eat him up.

Julio Lugo on the other hand is a fan friendly, infectious type personality. Boston will be right up his alley IMO and should adjust very well.

Just my 2 cents from a slightly different angle-

That's an interesting point Chest. He must be the opposite of type A personality whatever that is. It seems to me there are an over abundance of type A's in sports. I've always wanted those guys playing for me. Guys who would rather die than lose. They may not be likable, but they never quit like the Cubs team did last year. Pierzynski was voted by the players most hated player last year and I can see why. He can be a jerk. Since he plays in Chi now I see another side of him though. You need guys like him if you want to win. Roger Clemens, Pedro, Michael Jordan, they're not just good they're driven to win and help get their teamates moving also. I like the Red Sox, but believe their team atmosphere is already too care free. Adding Drew may affect them more in the "who cares about winning" aspect more than his play, or non play, on the field. Manny is great, but may already set the "I don;t care" attitude. They don't need it comfirmed.

Since these signings have come down it seems a lot of media types want to go with perfect scenarios. Lugo and Youkilis are a virtual lock for 120 runs since they hit in front of Papi and Manny. Weren't these the same guys that were predicting the same for Crisp and Loretta last year? And Renteria the year before that? And doesen't Drew just replace Trot Nixon on Boston's DL?

Red Sox Nation will have until April to boast on their new lineup, but I'm doubting that they've improved enough to salvage a game in a 5 game set with the Yanks.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
