Should be aiming for 2.5 to 3.5 rounds per day

It's not unusual to see a DC league grinding slowly especially when it's got some GMs who are new to NFBC.

I'm currently in a slow draft at the site where we've been doing our auctions and it's much slower than any I've seen here at NFBC. They have a 12 hour clock which pauses between 2am and 8am ET but it's rare to get more than one round (it's a 10 team league too) per day.

For anyone who likes the 50 round format but has been put off by the extremely slow pace, there are other options including the DC Express where the whole draft is done within 3.5 to 4.5 hours and the occasional offering of a "fast slow".

Right now we're trying to fill a DC league where the plan is to draft 15 rounds per night over 3 nights by having all managers show up at 7:30pm ET and banging out picks for a couple of hours. There's still an 8 hour clock but the hope is that it will never come into play except over night.

I finished my first DC last week. Total draft took about 12 days.

The first dozen rounds can be slow as people agonize over well known players. After round 20 we were doing almost 4 rounds a day with more AUTO PICK being used.

In my league it helped that like 8 of us listed cell phones to text when on the clock

This is the way to do it. Nice to hear, but 12 days should be about the maximum tolerable draft length IMO. Try the Fast DC format with a bunch of dedicated fanatics ripping off about 5 to 6 rounds or more per day at the minimum, with 6 to 8 being more the norm. You will be hooked and never want to go back to drafting at any slower than this. I average about 10 rounds per day in the ones that I do. It's a rush.

We will finish early this evening which will be 3+ days to complete. This is not easy to do and it takes a bunch of addicts to accomplish, but it is the way to go for me, and I will never/ever do a normal slow DC with an 8 hour clock, again. I'm been fortunate enough to draft with a group that know if they need someone for a fast/slow, they can call on me and depend on me to be there. Communication, Communication, Communication.....goes a long way.

That's definitely the way to do it and that's what we ask for - that everyone cooperates with one another and communicates. Everyone who signs up for the 8-hour leagues should plan for them to get done around 3 weeks, maybe a little bit less. But if you're finishing in 20-21 days that's how it should work.

Tom, we actually tried to get everyone to coordinate phone numbers but only 5 would... The 5 who always draft on time. Some won't even give their real name let alone phone number.

Getting their real names is easy. Just look the roster from the sign up list. It tells you their name and just match it up with their owners list under the league banner.

What's the actual avg length of the 107 "slow" DCs now completed? Tom mentioned 20-21 days as typical but just wondering if the stats back that up. I'm in one right now that is tracking to about that length but it seems excruciating. One owner has been on clock for 4 hours now in prime Sunday evening hours and I'm sure he will let it expire overnight. Greg said the rule is if u let clock expire twice in a row you automatically go on AP from there forward. Problem is he doesn't let it go twice in row. Rule should be 2 or 3 clock expirations total should result in permanent AP.

Any time you let it run out a full 8 hours besides in prime sleeping hours should result in auto picks from then on out... IMO.

It's around 3 weeks. Some go quicker and some go a little longer. The longest one we have right now is on Day 23 and should end today. If you're getting an 8-hour league done in around 3 weeks that is more than acceptable and it's what everyone should plan for. If you're a day or two longer than that pace there is no need to panic, especially now with so much time to go before the season begins. Again, the key thing we ask is that everyone cooperates and communicates. If that is done these drafts should go smoothly even if the time isn't to all 15 owners' satisfaction. If people are deliberately putting the draft in harms way - and by deliberately I mean stating they plan to do so - let Greg or I know and we'll look into it.

Thx for the info. I have no evidence of anything deliberate going on in my current dc. Just venting some frustration with dead clock running during prime evening hours several times now by the same person.
