15th preference for me. Ugh. Some owners get a KDS advatage; while I get lump of coal. Sure wish faab bidding for draft slots was implemented so everyone had real opportunity to value their draft slots accordingly.kds thumbs down here

First time in 12 years I got #1. I am sure to get Votto now!
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Short term excitement...yes. However long term, there's a better way. I'm certain some people didn't particiapte in some of the higher $ DRAFT leagues partly because of this

I know you don't truly believe that. It has certainly been shown over the years that baseball can be won from any position.
Re: Las Vegas March 28th Main Event Leagues & Draft Order
I got my 5th choice not to bad.
But with what you are saying about bidding for spots I have 35 to 40 teams over the last 2 seasons and only 1 time have I gotten the number 1 pick. Ughh might have to enter another 1 at this point the odds have to be turning in my favor.

In a 15-team format, most people like to be as high in the draft order as possible. In Las Vegas League 1, 9 different owners had 15 as their last preference. One owner had it near the top, but he got a better pick instead. So either Gekko or one of 8 others would have randomly gotten their last choice in this league, which was 15. Gekko just happened to be the last one randomly chosen by the computer for it.
We'll see how the bidding goes in the Platinum League this year using FAAB for draft spots. I can't see that happening in multiple leagues like this, but you never know. We've always pushed the envelope to make draft spot selections better and to make draft slots more meaningful, even implementing Third Round Reversal in football. But in some ways you can also hurt the product by getting too niche.
Have we lost customers because they got their last preference? Have we gained customers because they got their first preference? It's all just part of the game, just like injuries, draft prep, FAAB pickups and everything else that goes into a winning season. Making good selections is likely the biggest factor. Good luck all and hopefully more of you got a preferred spot than didn't.

Not sure what the correct answer is since the player pool changes every year, but with Trout clearly pulling away from the rest of the league as the top choice; I think a 3RR would've been a nice option this year to try out somewhere, maybe in a Satellite as a test. 15/16/31/60/61 sounds a lot closer to 1/30/45/46/75 than the normal setup.

It's part of the game and in the hands of the computer. Knowing you, you have a master plan at 15. Didn't you and Glenn pick at 15 in the Platinum League last year and you were right there until the end. I'm sure it can be done, right? Good luck and pull out the "other" Master Plan for the $125,000 grand prize!!!

Re: Las Vegas March 28th Main Event Leagues & Draft Order
I will say that in football we had a history of the top spots dominating most NFFC leagues and something was needed to change the luck of the random draft spot. 3RR with KDS has proven to be good for balancing out each draft spot in football and the results each year have been very level among all spots. Plus our owners feel very good about the spots they are given because everyone has a different choice for their favored spots.CALI CARTEL wrote:Not sure what the correct answer is since the player pool changes every year, but with Trout clearly pulling away from the rest of the league as the top choice; I think a 3RR would've been a nice option this year to try out somewhere, maybe in a Satellite as a test. 15/16/31/60/61 sounds a lot closer to 1/30/45/46/75 than the normal setup.
Baseball has proven to be very level among all spots through our first 11 years, although admittedly 14 and 15 are tough spots. But then so is #1. While that is the preferred choice in baseball, we probably have had as few league champions from 1 as from 15. There is no doubt that adding 3RR/KDS to baseball would make everyone feel better about the picks they are getting, but I'm not sure that it would prove to be any better for the balance of the picks because the difference-maker in each league could be from Rounds 10 to 20. And we all know that.

Re: Las Vegas March 28th Main Event Leagues & Draft Order
I agree, Baseball is way more about the mid rounds than Football; we had pick 14 in our Main last year and started out with Chris Davis/Tulowitzki, so we got a negative season and 2/3 of a season out of our first two picks and were still able to get 2nd in league thanks to some good later picks (Abreu 6th, N.Cruz 12th).Greg Ambrosius wrote: I will say that in football we had a history of the top spots dominating most NFFC leagues and something was needed to change the luck of the random draft spot. 3RR with KDS has proven to be good for balancing out each draft spot in football and the results each year have been very level among all spots. Just thought it might've been fun to try out a 3RR in a few isolated Satellite leagues, just to see if you could tell how much it helped out those 12th-15th picks that most people didn't want this year.

It's certainly a worthy suggestion and maybe something we could try out next season. As someone who's participating in 2 Main Events this year, I see 1/30/31/60/61 as far superior drafting positions then 15/16/45/46/75 according to this year player pool. I would be in favor of FAAB.
Would I stop playing in the NFBC if I got the 15th pick in both of my drafts, probably not. But, I know that if I had a chance to get #1 pick based on silent auction system, I would prefer that.
I wouldn't play in a higher stakes league($5000 or higher) if it was random draw for draft position.
I rather blame myself for not bidding high enough rather then the luck of the draw.
