Venting misery...
I am making this post so the others who are off to bad starts know they are not alone.. We all get so excited for the draft and the new baseball season as we leave the doldrums of the cold winter and painful period of time between the end of the NFL season and the start of MLB. My season started with Ervin Santana being suspended. Certainly a downer but not the end of the world as he was an SP 5 on my team but still disappointing as he can be solid, is pitching in a good park for a team with an improved offense. So then after 2 days almost everyone on my team is 0-8. Samardjzia gets destroyed and continues to not miss bats like in spring training... add to that Cishek is brought into a non save situation and pukes on himself. Add to that the bullpen blows the game for Greinke last night minutes after one of my targeted guys (Belt) left the game with a groin injury as my other two corner infielders on my bench hit home runs. Paxton gets no run support and gives up a 2 run HR to Freeze (one of those corner infielders on my bench). Brett Lawrie strikes out 4 times on 12 pitches! That actually happened.. Then today, Joe Nathan ends up with an elbow injury and is on the DL and coughs up his closer role to Soria. When I look back at my draft to see who I took instead of Soria (I wanted him to control Tiger closer role) and it was Ervin Santana. The best news of the season is that I didn't draft Latos (and I wanted him)..
I am not a first timer.. I am not panicking... just bitching because it feels better... if anyone has a painful story to tell please share to be therapeutic for others..

Wow. Sorry. That is a rough start, but it's a long season, and it's still very early, so better luck to you from here on out and it can only get better (hopefully)

Re: Venting misery...
Well maybe you can just get all the bad news out of the way this first week and move on from there. I would rather have stuff like this happen the first week rather than be near the top all year and then fall apart in September. I know that sounds hollow when your team is struggling out of the gate but these things do tend to even out over the course of the long season.Driver Love wrote:I am making this post so the others who are off to bad starts know they are not alone.. MLBbug,
I know it is early and i am not worried at all. I just wanted to vent because it is therapeutic and when the baseball season starts we all have such anticipation ... so to see things go that bad that fast it is a downer. It isn't a big deal One good pitching week next week and I will be fine.
By the way, I also have Cecil on this team... so the brutal start continues... I drafted 3 closers and now have 1 who has a 100 era...lol

Re: Venting misery...
It looks like it gets worse for you with news out of Toronto that Cecil has,at least temporarily, been yanked from the closer role in favor of 20 year old rookie Castro. if it makes you feel any better( misery loves company) I own Cecil on several teams as wellDriver Love wrote:MLBbug,

Truth be told nothing could get me down now because it is Masters week and I am watching non stop golf lol. I am just shocked by how many things could go wrong in 3 days of baseball... it is almost comical!

Hey, just have a few gins, or scotches, every day. The pain will go away soon enough. If it doesn't, then just have more until it does. Eventually, it just might even make you laugh about it all.

Keep going until you get that "click"...

Brick: Somethin' hasn't happened yet.
Big Daddy: What's that?
Brick: A click in my head.
Big Daddy: Did you say "click"?
Brick: Yes sir, the click in my head that makes me feel peaceful.
Big Daddy: Boy, sometimes you worry me.
Brick: It's like a switch, clickin' off in my head. Turns the hot light off and the cool one on, and all of a sudden there's peace.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Just about the time to start having drinks around when he got pummeled. I'm guessing a few may turn into a lot for a Friday night of Walker owners. Just figure, they could have some Johnny Walker red, black, blue, orange.......(how many are there now?) to remind themselves of Walker "All Night Long".........All Night......

Yeah, and I was surprised the most by Fiers for some reason.

The one good thing is, your ERA can only go down from here...might take 1/2 a season!Rog wrote:not complaining / not venting just laughing and saying thankfully it is only week 1![]()

I have quite a few of those same pitchers, good thing they are scattered amongst a few teams.
Re: Venting misery...
I got home from dinner with my wife just in time to see Wilhelmson come in with the bases loaded. I mentally added those three runs to the total before he threw his first pitch.mattjb wrote:The Taijun Walker owners might be having a few extra drinks tonight.
I'm still optimistic Walker will be an asset this season. There's no reason for his confidence to be shaken after one terrible outing.
Re: Venting misery...
Here's Lookout Landing's take on Walkers tough night. The strike zone map shows just how awful his command was in that game.
http://www.lookoutlanding.com/2015/4/11 ... -fall-12-0
Despite his struggles yesterday, I think Walker's going to fare better than the Mariners other spring training hero, Mike Zunino. His contact issues, which seemed to improve with a change in approach this spring, appear to be no better than what he showed in last year's sub-Mendoza effort. But, of course, its still early and catchers tend to progress more slowly than hitters at other positions.

Re: Venting misery...
Maybe this thread can be here specifically for owners to vent about fantasy baseball pain knowing full well that getting it out of their system could be good for them and reading it can be good for other owners in pain so they know they are not alone....lol Kind of like a support group for people who had their spouses leave them!
By the way, to add to my original post... I had cishek blow a save last night, partly on a fielding blunder and of course not get the win that went to another reliever.. I also had Brandon Morrow pitch great and his team didn't score until the inning after he left the game. So thus far, zero wins in 10 starts among two NFBC teams... lovely.

Re: Venting misery...
This really is not a "venting misery" post, but, more of an observation. And unlike Deadheadz I'm too lazy to create a separate thread. The book is out on Rizzo....pound him inside....4 HBP's already, pitchers are seeing if Rizzo can turn on the inside fastball. Will be interesting to see how & if he is able to adjust and turn on the inside tastball. While I was all over Rizzo last year in the 6th round, I was leery of taking him this year especially at his late 1st/2nd round ADP and only have Rizzo in one league this year, the Chicago Main (pick 2.5). As a Cub fan, I am, however, very pleased to see Soler's command of the strike zone, really advanced for such a young player, and most especially advanced for a guy who has like an 8" thick gold chain...that usually equates to a hacker a la Baez. But what I have learned is to not pre-judge a man's strike zone command in relation to the size of his gold chain. To do so, especially as it relates to Soler, is foolhardy.

His power is the ball middle of the plate and away.
I just don't like where he has his hands pre-pitch. He has to move his hands back before then driving them forward when the pitch comes.

Just lost both my catchers in the first week for an unspecified period of time. Gomes today, and other guy in the first game of season. Anybody have a worse injury nightmare to report yet?

Thank you Cody Allen for yesterdays 4 earned runs in a non save situation. Thank you for the lovely whip numbers. Next week can't come fast enough. I need a do over!
Re: Venting misery...
6-8 weeks minimum probably for Yan Gomes. No surgery at this point. Not sure the implications of no surgery. Does this mean it is more likely to surface again or he could tweak it during rehab process causing the 6-8 weeks to end up being season-long?
We've seen pitchers postpone surgery only to end up having it, I don't recall exact situations with position players though?
Looks like I'll roll with Tuffy for half the year. I'm in trouble already. Lol. Benoit and now this? When does football start again?

Does this put them in the market for a player like Dionner Navarro? The guy wants a starting job and has been vocal that he'd like to be traded.GetALife wrote:6-8 weeks minimum probably for Yan Gomes. No surgery at this point. Not sure the implications of no surgery. What would Toronto be asking for and what can Cleveland afford to give? Pitching is what the Blue Jays need so maybe something like McAllister who is out of options and is blocking Salazar?

Please tell me King Felix is not hurt. He only threw 81 pitches through 5, Seattle takes the lead in the 6th, and he doesn't go back out to pitch?
