What Do You Want For Tuesday Night DFS Contest?

We now have four NFBC owners who have won 2016 NFBC Main Event entries through our Tuesday Night DFS Contest with Fanduel.com. However, we failed to fill the contest last week (4 open spots) and we had to open it to the Fanduel masses at 5:30 pm ET to fill up last night's contest.

Is the $25 entry fee the right price point for this contest? We need 91 entries at the current prize setup.

We are more than willing to do it again next week at $25 and if we can't completely fill it up with NFBC owners to fill the final spots with Fanduel regulars. No problem there at all. But if you want to try a different price level we can do that as well. Just let us know with any suggestions and we'll go from there. Thanks all.

Don't get me wrong: We love running these with Fanduel each Tuesday night and we hope to do it throughout the season. Nothing would be better than to have 25 or more owners set up for the Main Event at the end of this season. We just want to make sure we're offering the best possible game at the best possible price. I think its perfect. Just like you, Greg. Seriously, I like the payout structure and the number of entries. If you lower the price and it becomes a lot more entries with a lottery ticket feel to it I probably wouldn't play. Well, that's a lie, I probably would play but I would not be happy about the increased number of entries. I find it pretty cool to recognize a lot of the names and check out their line-ups,etc. I don't think you're doing anything wrong, I think it's just the nature of the "daily" beast that ya just play when you feel like it. I know for me yesterday I actually had to work late(r) yesterday and was a last minute entry guy-er. I would like to keep things as they are and just realize the novelty has worn off and it may be touch and go to fill every week with NFBC-ers only. Why not just open it to others if we can't fill it ourselves? I see nothing wrong with that approach if it helps to fill it. Just my 2 cents.

i know the argument against will be Sunday is FAAB day but I can't imagine putting a Sunday lineup in (especially since we'll have the link Saturday night) will deter that many.

That said, running a Sunday contest would mean we could be congregating on the message forum, watching the ESPN game while waiting for the FAAB run to go through. If there's a close match with someone sweating out the late game, the talk may turn to the FAAB results while we wait for the contest to be decided.

I think the Sunday idea would also work since most FAAB work is probably done closer to the deadline rather than 1PM. The downside would be that we wouldn't see the ESPN Sunday night 8PM lineup so you'd be eliminating a game to choose from for many. On Tuesday's we typically we see all lineups by the 7PM deadline.

Either way I'll continue to support/donate this great idea.

I still think you'd retain more repeat entrants by having the 2 thru 21 finishers each getting $10 rather than only top four after the grand prize winner.

For those who only dabble in DFS it's pretty discouraging finishing in the top half of the field but getting nothing to show for it and probably feeling like it's too hard to crack the top 5.

Go with whatever works though. It would be great to see it go all season long.

With very few places paying out, it's likely that the majority of participants have blown through $100. I'm not sure how long the contest can sustain itself with the same people each week. I'd offer up 3 suggestions to try in this order:

1. Open it up to outsiders from the start. Filling the contest is the ultimate concern and it will at least promote the NFBC in some way. We're pushing it close already.

2. Try it as a Sunday contest. With a full slate including a night game that takes us into FAAB, I agree with the earlier suggestions that it would build interest and excitement in the message boards throughout the day.

3. Lower the price to $10 if 1 and 2 don't work. You'd need about 228 entries. I do like the limited entries at 91 because you feel like you have a real chance each week but 228 is still reasonable.

Make it clear to all that the winner can use the entry on football this year. Winning a prize that you don't get to use for the best part of a year is a downer for some I am sure.

Two ideas.

1. We go with Deadheadz suggestion and make it $25 for 2nd-17th winnings. First is a Main event entry. Everyone playing in here is only playing for the entry, and I doubt many care about getting rewarded for 2nd etc as it really isn't that much. By giving 16 guys their money back essentially, you are giving them another entry for next week.

2. Raise the entry to $50 for 45/46 participants. Then pay 2-9 $50, with first being a Main event entry.


PS. I do think if Fanduel could somehow make a weekly salary cap game it would be a huge hit with the group. I'd even say $50-$100 would be acceptable for a contest like that.

I think the contest set up perfect the way it is.If has problems filling open it up to all at a set time.Some of us may get home from work or other activities and won't know until the last few hours if we are able to get in or not.Maybe give us a warning on the MB that you will be opening it up to others.

I do see Sunday working with a few issues.
1. Probably have to eliminated the late game because the teams lineups won't be posted in time.I also can't remember if the late games have a lineup issue or not.
2.Some players get an extra day off on Sunday so the player pool will be a bit thinner with part time players.Everyone will have the same pool of played to choose from so maybe this won't matter.

Just some thoughts if you want to breakup that $400 into $25 pay slots.This would still be a WTA with 16 $25 payouts also.

I think the days to play are Sunday,Tuesday ,& Friday.I. Know some might say Friday is a lineup issue but your only setting your hitters and that can be done Thursday night.
Any thoughts on some smaller turnies for an entry into your WTA?I know I tried and could only fill one.So maybe that's a no go.

FWIW -- if we had 100 regulars and were deciding on the best night then I can see picking nits over what day is better with the different schedule nuances. The Sunday suggestion was to maximize attendance and the rest takes care of itself.

That said, every lineup isn't always announced by lock other days and players sitting actually helps since those backups that play are inevitably cheap.

I have no proof but my more than ample gut says the reason we're having trouble filling isn't the secondary payments but the entry point. Doing it at $10 and allowing 5 entries per person could work since those that were fine with playing at $25 decide whether they want to play 2 or 3 lineups and we get the rest as single entries with people more comfortable paying $10.

Good point on the entry fee.Wont know unless people speak up on the mb or we try.I would think if you had no problem with a $25 entry fee one might get 2-3 for sure.

Some might not like a 200 entry contest.I would think if a lineup would win against 91 entries then it should be right their against 200.I could be wrong.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions and as expected I knew there would be a lot of different views. Yeah, I knew that after 4-6 times at $25 each that some folks would do the math and realize that it wasn't working out. It proves that there's a churn factor in this game just like there is in season-long games, but not enough to abandon the idea.

I don't really want to lower the entry to $10 and increase the size of the participant pool by two and a half times. I'm not sure $10 prizes keeps people coming back for more. I think the $25 entry is a good starting point; last year we went $50 and only 40 spots and I'd consider a week like that rather than the $10 entry point. Let's go with 91 spots again next Tuesday, $25 entry and if we aren't filled up by the last hour we'll ask Fanduel to open it up to the public. This week they opened it to their user base about 40 minutes before the deadline with about 34 spots left and it filled quickly. That's the plan again this week.

A Sunday with an early deadline might be tough to fill. We did Friday nights last year and that got really tough to fill, but again we did mostly $50 entry points and we did make that go for 7 weeks. But Tuesdays are okay for now.

Since fanduel is a partner, I would suggest getting them to turn it into a no rake contest, with the stipulation that you get a field to commit to the current structure for the rest of the season. Nobody makes any money. It wouldn't cost fanduel but a little loose change to run, they benefit by traffic coming to the site. NFBC benefits by getting guaranteed entries into the main event. That is how a partnership should work. Fan duel also will generate some additional revenue by the NFBC crowd that would play other contest when they decide their lineup is a great one. No more trying to fill anything. You would have it full every week. It could possibly even end a month early when interest dies down with football season. And the top 4 in total points for the duration got a seat and split up the extra cash for the extra money. This would add a really cool full season format blended with daily. The one negative is that it would require payment upfront.

Agree, best left as is. But time will tell if it is broke. From NFBC standpoint, it certainly would not be broke by opening it up to fanduel masses like it will have to be. Generates new customer base. But no way this format continues without those players as the season grinds along.

I like this. Not sure what the logistics would be like.. or how realistic it is, but I do like the idea of an NFBC weekly DFS contest where weekly points are kept with prizes or maybe an NFBC exclusive DFS contest at the end of the season for the top however many point earners. It would be cool if everyone was limited to one entry per week so everyone is on an even playing field. I also like the Tuesday night contest. Sunday has so much going on both in sports and everyones family life... the NFBC Tuesday night DFS contest adds some zest to an otherwise blah Tuesday night.
