Answering My Own Questions

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Wed May 20, 2015 10:42 am

1. Why are the Red Sox even rostering Shane Victorino?
Everybody knows that he will be let go. Why not sooner than later?
Rusney Castillo is there future.
Of course, I can't answer why the Red Sox have five starting pitchers that can be picked up at the five and dime.

2. Why are the Reds carrying Devin Mesoraco?
New rule, if not being able to squat to take a dump, player is automatically dl'ed.

3. Remember when the 'On pace' fellas said that Billy Hamilton was on pace for 200 steals?
Now, he is on pace to be sent back to the minors.
Major League teams are not as enamored with judys as fantasy teams are.

4. A leadoff man's job is to score runs, right?
Is Jose Altuve that good?
Altuve has 21 more at bats, 22 more hits, and four more walks than Hamilton.
Same 22 runs scored.

5.Who is the best pitcher in the A.L. East?
Chris Archer.
The A.L. East has gone to Hell.

6. Is there such thing as an empty .400 hitter?
Dee Gordon is hitting .403, almost twice the avg of Billy Hamilton's .211
He too, has scored 22 runs.

7. Without looking at Standings, is there any question on the worst team in baseball?
Remember when the Phils were good?
Now, they are last in runs scored and last in homers in a homer hitting park.
Sad.
Any player doing well, is considered trade bait. Only there is nobody there with the good sense to make a trade.
I forgot to mention, they are also last in General Managers.
The longer they go with the one in place, the longer it'll be before they are again a competitive team.
Poor Philly fans

8. Why do Rockies fans pay to see the Rockies?
They have an owner who banks that 25-30,000 people will come out to see crappy baseball.
An owner who will spend no money. Make no moves.
Rockies pitchers have given up the most runs, almost a taken-for-granted stat.
More alarmingly, the Rockies have scored the third FEWEST RUNS in baseball this year.
Yes, even in that park.
Matter of fact, here's a stat for park freaks....
The Padres have one more homer playing in PetCo than the Rockies in Coors.

9. Who is the most fantasy friendly hitting team in baseball?
The Houston Astros lead baseball in homers and are second to the Cincinnati Reds in steals.
The Astros have become an entertaining team to watch.

10. How much have times changed?
Everybody knows that Joe DiMaggio had a 56 game hitting streak.
Guess how many pitchers he faced during that streak?
55.
That's right. Only 55.
There were only eight teams in the American League. A four man rotation, few relievers, no specialists.
Most Starters, finishing their own games.
In 56 games nowadays, a batter could see as many as 150 different hurlers.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

cool stuff as always. thanks.

that final one really bends the mind. 56 seems virtually impossible now.

Same 22 runs scored.

I think a Leadoff man's job is to get on base, scoring runs is a byproduct of that.
I can't blame Altuve and Gordon for not scoring more runs because the guys behind them didn't drive them in. That's like blaming Todd Frazier for only having 19 RBI off his 12 HR's. He can't hit a 2 or 3 run shots because Billy Hamilton is only getting on base 5 out of 20 times.

That is a crazy good stat.

I can blame Todd Frazier though.
He hits 100 points higher when NOBODY is on base.
.161 with runners in scoring position.
Fellas are on base, he's just not doing the job when they are.

Altuve, Hamilton, and Gordon have all three taken different paths to score 22 runs.
Amazing actually.
Be it circumstances or a stat that I am not seeing, it's an amusing stat, at the least.

I might nominate Michael Pineada as the best pitcher in the AL East.
Early yet.

Good thought.
We'll see if he stays healthy.

I would not be surprised if Pineda feels tightness in his forearm soon.

You know I'm in agreement on Ruben Amaro.

Just look at his signings this year: Frenchy. Chad Billingsley. Aaron Harang. Why sign veterans like these guys when the team is going nowhere? Call up the kids and let them play, first guy being Domonic Brown. Give him one more season to find out if he's in your future, or not.

Here's another idea: Find a catcher who can hit.
