As the closer world turns

Post by rkulaski » Wed May 20, 2015 10:07 pm

Looking at faab bids from this past Sunday, Ziegler was the most coveted closer to be.

After some comments made by Hale, Ziegler doesn't sound like his role will be as closer.
Sneaky pickup from Sunday looks like tolleson but that could change in a week. Kela sought after too on Sunday evening. I don't think Feliz closes again this year.

Yesss.......needed that save. Of course I have Reed too, who pitched well. And with Burgos in the mix, looks like a closer committee be forming....
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Zeigler the preferred option. The difference is, he is their only reliable pitcher. He will be used earlier than a save situation if the manager thinks it is best way for them to win. The manager wisely is not concerned about the save statistic. Not ideal as a heavy Zeigler owner though.

While it wasn't noted in most news reports, the Diamondbacks "said" that Ziegler was "not available" when Burgos got his saves this week.

That may be nice for Ziegler owners to hear but I still believe this will be a committee situation usage wise because Hale will use Ziegler in a critical situation in the 7th or 8th inning if he thinks that is best to win the game and then have someone else pitch the 9th - correct that he doesn't care about who gets the save he just wants to put the Team in the best situation to Win the game.

So, Chip Hale has no concern for the well being of my counting stats and fantasy team? Selfish bastard....

Ziegler too valuable and hale likes him the most to get the dbacks out of 7th or 8th inning jams, induce a double play, etc.
he'll still get saves but don't think he'll be the de facto 9th inning guy. Mike - you stole him in our main wks ago. Nicely done.
