July Deadline Trades
Re: July Deadline Trades
.
Just woke up to find Tulo is going to Toronto for Jose Reyes in a package deal that includes Hawkins, Castro and some minor leaguers.

I suppose Rogers Centre is one place his power shouldn't diminish.
Does Colorado keep Reyes or flip him too? Mets still need help at SS but would they take on the money to bring back Reyes?

Re: July Deadline Trades
Truly surprising trade. If you told me the Rockies were trading Tulo, I would have thought for sure it would be for some top-line (or close to top-line) pitching. What does trading one oft-injured SS for another oft-injured SS do for either team? (Although Reyes is not quite as oft-injured - or good - as Tulo.). Strange. If the Rockies are going to flip Reyes, could we see a homecoming to the Mets in exchange for the pitching Colorado desperately needs? Or does Reyes have too big a price tag for the We-are-not-broke Mets?Deadheadz wrote:.

Re: July Deadline Trades
I get why Toronto would do it though "Tulo on Turf" may be a bitter recipe. But why would Colorado do it? They say that Reyes has lost a step and the potential for less defense (though I am not sure Tulo is a better defender than Reyes) is not what the Colorado pitchers need. Is High-A Jeff Hoffman (the pride of ECU and kind of looks like Opie to me) that good? Miguel Castro is an interesting arm though after his closer stint he has certain had is problems. It is not like it is a salary dump.
Truly has me scratching my head.

Tulo will probably be moved by Toronto in a corresponding move. He is a far more attractive trading piece and the last thing they need is another right handed power hitter.

Re: July Deadline Trades
My understanding is that Tulo now has a no-trade clause that kicked-in upon him being traded. Thus, he is not going to be flipped unless it is to a destination that he likes. Tulo might become more valuable in the AL with the ability to be a DH, although the turf in Toronto could lead to even more games missed. Strange trade. Certainly did not see that one coming.Fourslot40 wrote:Tulo will probably be moved by Toronto in a corresponding move. Now Colorado needs to flip Reyes and cargo to Pittsburgh for Tallionor or glasnow polanco and hell we will just throw in p alvarez. Never happen but nice to hope for.
Re: July Deadline Trades
WOW. Not a WOW that Tulo is traded. A WOW that Tulo is still healthy enough to be traded.
The Rockies are building with power arms in their system. Hoffman and Castro fill the bill.
So far, no plan has worked for pitching at Coors.
Will this plan work?
Probably not.
But I say that only because all others have failed.
The Rockies have thoughts of Gray, Hoffman, and Freeland being power starters with Castro Closing.
It may not work, but commendable in even having a direction in which to go.
I can see the Rockies flipping Reyes to the Yankees or Dodgers. Two teams in need of a shortstop that can afford the salary.
The Dodgers can send Rollins back and the Rockies rid themselves, in effect, of Tulo and Hawkins salary while garnering three young pitchers.
A Yankee trade could net them even more youngsters.
The Rockies have always been propped by Tulo and CarGo.
No need for that now with Arenado, Blackmon, Dickerson and other young players.
I expect CarGo to be traded now that he is healthy and hot.
It would free the Rockies completely from being tethered to long term contracts. They can re-build a whole team, instead of putting youngsters around two oft-injured players.
We don't know what goes on in clubhouses. Tulo or Reyes may have been not highly thought of by teammates or Management.
I do know that while Tulo was at bat the other day and a game winning wild pitch occurred. Tulo walked to the dugout while Rockies players rushed by him to celebrate the win. The look on his face was not that of victory. It was of disappointment that he did not get a chance to provide the moment.
That spoke volumes to me.
Reyes seems to be with a different team every year. That can't be a coincidence.
If the Rockies have done their homework, they probably already have a trade partner for Reyes.
While the Blue Jays hold a press conference to announce the Tulo trade today, the Rockies did not for Reyes.
At least to my knowledge.
This tells me that another trade is already in the works.
I'm betting Tulo is shocked.
This is the guy that earlier in the year made it public that he was talking it over with his agent in whether to ask for a trade or not.
He decided no.
The Rockies decided yes.

Hamels and CarGo are dual 'players of the week'.
This could be the first time ever that the player(s) of the week are traded before the next weeks players of the week are named.

tulo may end up on white sox- if he is willing to approve the trade. if not ,buerle will fix any "team" problems he has- and he does have them- that video tells all. he and reyes will both get hurt within 2 weeks- and I own both. it will help me in that premature league though.

Zobrist to royals. As a big royals fan, I hate this trade. Manaea has a shot to be a #1. I like zobrist. He's a much better real life player than a fantasy player, but that's too much for a rental.

Agree wholeheartedly. Manaea may not ever pan out, and possible that he does in Oakland and wouuln't have in KC as well. Oakland seems to develop and understanding pitching pretty well. Fact is, he has massive upside. Not sure Zobrist is that much of a difference maker. If they have more injuries he will be very handy, but as it stands now he is not that big of a need, assuming Gordon comes back when projected. Not thrilled about it, but it does give the Royals a marginally better chance this year. As you said Zobrist a better real player than fantasy player.

Re: July Deadline Trades
It will be a fun and interesting FAAB period for the AL and NL only leagues. Currently the AL has the biggest names with Cueto and Tulo. It's always a tough balance to use your FAAB money early in the season to address clear needs yet save up for a shot at a big stud for the final two months. With ABs and IPs being so important in only leagues, sometimes you simply can't wait if you have injuries early in the year and have holes to fill. More big names to switch leagues surely to come.

Papelbon to the Nationals he's not going to setup.

Watching Wilmer Flores play hard for a team that he knew traded him an hour earlier. Hopefully, he comes back to prove the Mets wrong. Way to handle yourself as a professional young man.

Re: July Deadline Trades
The Bravos freakin' trade Alex Wood, Jim Johnson, Luis Avilan (who cares), Bronson Arroyo (who cares) and PERAZA for freakin' DL queen 30 year old Hector Olivera (five 1/2 years left on his contract averaging $5.75 million per since the Dodgers paid the $28M upfront signing bonus), Paco Rodriguez (also DL) and BP pitcher Zach Bird?
Sumbitch...I wanted to see Peraza/Simmons MI combo for years.

Gomez to the Astros. Clearly they weren't concerned with his hip. Sounds like it was Gomez $ that the Mets wanted help with. Madoff still running that team from prison...

Albies is, what, 18 and in Low A, so that future is waaaaaaay off....at least long enough to get Peraza nearly through his arbitration years.NorCalAtlFan wrote:was never going to be a Peraza-Simmons combo wayne. Albies. that's the future......

Prediction....
The Mets will be connected to Jay Bruce, Yoenis Cespedes, and Justin Upton.
Then trade for a non-difference maker.
