Shallow Thoughts

Post by DOUGHBOYS » Thu Jul 30, 2015 10:01 am

Every time I see a 'CS' for one of my players, I mentally thank them for the try

When of my players takes a hit away from one of my players, I question his team ethics

21-5 score, my player on the winning team. 5-0-0-0 box score. Rock hard to limp in less than 10 seconds.

When my pitcher has a 3-0 count on a batter, I hope he hits them to save my WHIP

I have a voodoo doll for Managers who instruct my pitchers to intentionally walk a hitter

Same one I use for the quick hook with my pitcher ahead after 4 2/3 innings

Replays have become decisions in whether my player did a good thing or bad thing

I still can't take any player with a full beard seriously

Do the Nationals bring back Strasburg as a courtesy or do they really think he helps them more than Joe Ross

The Braves are becoming the Oakland Athletics of the National League

The Mets in contention? How often do 'miracles' happen before not being considered miracles

"I want to go to a winner"..."I want out of here"..."Oh, and I have to Close"..."Oh, and somebody has to pay me for the year after too..."Does Washington have dance schools?"...It's tough being Jonathon Papelbon

I get the feeling that the Mets are indian givers

I suppose that is now politically incorrect....wussification much?

Cole Hamels in the American League at age 32 next year. He falls in drafts

Tyler Clippard looks like he should be carrying a briefcase. Not a glove

Once a month, Brett Lawrie puts up monster numbers. The rest of the time, he strolls through the crowd like Peter Lorre

Avisail Garcia is not a young Miguel Cabrera. He is a now older Avisail Garcia

Wrigley Field has lost its innocence

The Boston Red Sox have lost their way

Why isn't Wade Davis Closing?

The Mets made Carlos Gomez cry

Carlos Gomez makes his drafters cry

Billy Hamilton is the best ninth hitter in baseball

Wait. Is that a compliment?

How much of a discount is given when considering trading the heads of Cespedes or Starlin Castro
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!

Maybe the first time I have ever considered "Peter Lorre" and "baseball" in the same thought..

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

More shallow stuff...

Since 2011, the Nationals are 33-9 vs. the Mets....AT CITI FIELD !!!

Until last night, no fantasy player in the NFBC HAS ever had seven rbi and two stolen bases...let alone two homers.
Brandon Phillips did it last night.
The only other players to even have seven rbi and two stolen bases were Mickey Mantle and Gary Sheffield

Edwin Encarnacion hurt his middle finger, his owners are offering him theirs

Cueto vs. Tulo tonight. Last weekend, it happened at Coors...and nobody cared

Gomez cried when learning of the trade to the Mets. He was happy to go to the Astros

How many GM's took the Mets off speed dial?

NOW, the Red Sox are concerned about Pablo Sandoval's weight?

Hitting streaks never threaten 56
So the media touts 'on base streaks'....like participation ribbons

A good hitter never heard "A walk is as good as a hit"
I get the feeling that many baseball writers heard, "A walk is as good as a hit"

'Giants Take Leake!'

Papelbon quote....
"I was in the shower with Drew Storen and I asked him to show me his slider grip"
Seriously

The Mets had a six run lead fter seven innings at Citi yesterday.
For the first time in their Citi history, they lost that game.
And the rain delays were longer than the game itself.

I have met more Mets haters than Yankee haters this year
An impossibility a few short years ago

Remember Doug Gwosdz?
Yeah, hardly anybody does.
He was a pitcher in the Bigs from 1981-84
One of the best nicknames ever in poking fun at his last name
The nickname was 'Eyechart'

Mike Trout and Albert Pujols have reached the 30 home run mark.
The last two teammates to do that were Jim Rice and Tony Armas in 1983

Teammates with 30 HR -- that can't be right.

I heard a quick blurb on the radio about this stat.
I think it's the first time since Rice and Armas that two teammates are the first two players overall to reach 30+ HR's in that season.
I think that's it :?: :?:

Here's a good one I heard earlier in the week:

After 100 games, in 9 of the last 10 seasons (2006-15), the Toronto Blue Jays have been 49-51, 50-50, or 51-49.

Can't get any more mediocre than that! :D

I'd guess in most past years, that a .500 record after 100 games would leave an A.L. East team on the outside looking in.
This year, going for the gusto.
Great stat.
