Is J.P. Arencibia.....
12 games played. 4 HR's 11 RBI's and hitting .375

It's a crazy game.

Not as big a surprise maybe, but in the "it's crazy" category:

Jedd Gyorko, last 16 games, .295 BA with 8 runs, 6 HR and 15 RBI's.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

"In 36 games for his new team, Cespedes has 14 home runs, 36 RBIs and a 1.032 OPS. In that time, he's third in the NL in both home runs and RBIs, 11th in OPS."

Fulfilling his true destiny?

Catchers tend to develop their offensive game later than other players. It's possible these 40 ABs signal a real trend that the previous 1500 didn't suggest. The 15/0 K/BB ratio over those 40 ABs make me think maybe not so much.

The real question is how does Tampa coax these performances out of such pedestrian catchers? This is similar to Curt Casali smashing six homers in 20 glorious August ABs, after managing just 26 HRs in almost 1000 minor league trips to the plate.

More like a fortunate son of a gun that ran into a cluster of fly balls that cleared the fence.

JPA has fanned in 15 of his 39 PA -- he's not a new guy. We've seen this before from him.

He's HR/FB is 50 percent -- with a career mark about 14 percent. If this were June he'd end up right where he always ends up -- out of a job b/c he fans too much to carry his power.
