Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Nice win in the Beckett League Jim. Totally dominating.

I don't think the forum is dead. And if it was you can't realistically blame it on an occasional random rant. You sound politically offended.

(1) you're wrong, at least viz what it was 3-5 years agoKJ Duke wrote:I don't think the forum is dead. And if it was you can't realistically blame it on an occasional random rant. You sound politically offended.
(2) I blame it on "the blaze" type comments.
It's a baseball board, doesn't have shit to do with utterly lame jeb/Hilary jokes.
I can't be politically offended I'm not dumb enough to take a side.
Re: 91 % of DFS player profits were won by 1.3 % of players
Well I've been here since Day 1, and there was WAY more off-topic stuff early on and it also was way more active. Less chatter probably has to do with the onslaught of media everywhere that diverts everyone's attention, the fact that it isn't new anymore and that a lot of people piss away time on daily games.
Re: 91 % of DFS player profits were won by 1.3 % of players
I actually blame it more on how insular your day one group behaves.KJ Duke wrote:Well I've been here since Day 1, and there was WAY more off-topic stuff early on and it also was way more active. I don't really mind, I'm here cause the competition is difficult (and above my skills), which makes it fun.
But it would be nice to have an actually board that discussed fantasy in a serious way, you'd think this should be the (or one of) the places, and it's platitudes, antiquated stat love, and conservatism.
Maybe it's people here cleaning up on DFS who don't want to the tip the cap, I dunno. But the McKinsey piece was interesting (to me at least) and there wasn't a single substantive comment on it, so you tell me

That is all it was and you did not even see the original post that I was properly admonished for, so I made a joke out of it. Big deal. If you take offense and feel the best way to handle is to insult, then the issue is yours.
FYI...I feel the need to telegraph the intent...below is a joke...

I also had a terrible fantasy year, so I'm blaming that, too.
Re: 91 % of DFS player profits were won by 1.3 % of players
I'd like to interject with an off/on topic comment. I don't really know what the last topic was.
I'm against politicians. I'm against political correctness. I'm against anything political.
Its been said that politicians are like diapers. They should be changed frequently, and for the same reason.
WC Fields said that he never voted for a politician, always against.
We'd all like to vote for the best man. The problem being that for the ages, the best man was smart enough not to run.
Politicians and their parties have become lampoons of themselves.
The political correctness thing bothers me even more.
I'd like to say that Cuban baseball players are, somewhat, pussies, but I can't. I'll be accused of being anti-Cuban (even though I don't personally know a Cuban). What I see are players seemingly not wanting to play while having boo-boo's.
I see Rusney Castillo, and Yasiel Puig, and Jorge Soler, and most other Cubans missing a lot of games.
But, political correctness doesn't let me say that.
Now, it is said that I am 'profiling'.
Something that all of us do when making assessments of players.
Ugh.
Getting back to the original purpose of this thread. I've never played the daily game. I have my own reasons for this.
Even without playing the daily game, I strongly dislike the daily game.
I'm sick of the radio talk and air play it gets on sports talk radio.
I'm especially sick of the advertising that we have been bombarded with.
My Mother-in-law is 88, she comes from the generation that believes everything in newspapers and on tv is true. Knowing I played fantasy baseball, she asked me if I played 'DraftKings' the other day. She had seen their advertising on a re-run of the Lawrence Welk Show.
When I said no, she looked a little disappointed. I didn't even try to explain that the NFBC is a more difficult, painstaking game.
Greg and others think that daily fantasy is good for fantasy in general and the NFBC. They feel that the draw of more participants will be good for all.
I don't agree.
This fantasy bunch seems to be of a different ilk. Oops, there goes more political incorrectness. Screw it.
I feel that these new daily fellas don't have the cahones or smarts/stupids to play our game.
Sports initiated folks see the ads, try their hand at daily, get their asses kicked, and drop out. Then new people try it, rinse, repeat.
We will see few of these folks.
Just my opinion...which I think is still allowed.
Sorry/not sorry if I rubbed anyone the wrong way.
Especially Mark Cuban, the cuban sandwich, and Ricky Riccardo.

Re: 91 % of DFS player profits were won by 1.3 % of players
I am with you Dough. I certainly do not see daily as a good thing for full season companies either. I was talking with Joe Jefferson during a football draft in Vegas about this briefly. We looked around the room and it is a bunch of middle aged guys. Very few younger folks. We were a lot younger when we all started playing fantasy football. There aren't as many of those guys playing. The competition is getting older. And it is an even larger problem for fantasy baseball IMO. Who is going to replace us when we get old and can no longer play? The younger generation is learning fantasy sports via daily fantasy sports. This full season stuff is archaic to them. They will have their home leagues and have fun with it. But daily is where it is at to them. I think it should be a major concern for companies like the NFFC, to try and find ways to get young customers.
Re: 91 % of DFS player profits were won by 1.3 % of players
Your point is stupid. Jose Abreu, Adeiny Hecheverria, Jose Fernandez, Yoenis Cespedes and some guy named Tony Perez disprove it pretty conclusively. The fact is guys like Puig nearly died simply getting here for opportunities you've taken for granted your entire life. But keep whining about how hard you've got it.DOUGHBOYS wrote:Omigosh.Yah Mule wrote:Painting yourself as a victim over not being able to make stupid generalizations about groups of people while still making stupid generalizations about groups of people. Jim, you've said in the past that the Rockies organization is horrible.
Is that 'stupid' too?
I know some folks in the Rockies organization to be very bright.
Yet, you called out the whole organization.
Both are a 'group of people'
Why is it ok for you to knock Rockies minds, while I cannot knock players who made my fantasy teams more of a Hell for me?
You, for sure, know more bout political correctness than I.

By the way, Jim, Tony Perez is old school. He doesn't count. Old school players played. No matter origins.
As for the Yasiel Puig reference. Literally millions came through Ellis Island or over the Rio Grande taking the same risks.
Puig is no more thought of, at least to me, than all of those folks.
I don't take my life in America for granted. But, I get the feeling that young Mr. Puig already has.
I love America. I love that I have the freedoms to say these things.
Political correctness is stifling freedom of speech in the guise of goodness.
A goodness, I can do without.

What I know about political correctness is its something people resort to complaining about when they realize their argument isn't really defensible.DOUGHBOYS wrote: Jim, you've said in the past that the Rockies organization is horrible.

I obviously understand you're smart enough to know the difference between a business organization and a nationality. Mainly I just think it's funny that you say a bunch of dumb crap and in the same breathe complain that you're not allowed to say that dumb crap. You see that cake? You can have it or you can eat it. Pick one.
