Feedback Wanted On $400 Draft Champions League
We have three price levels to compete for the overall prizes in the NFBC Draft Champions National Championship: $150, $400 and $1,000. All feed into the overall prize pool, which last year was a record total thanks to 192 leagues and 2,880 teams. Amazing year.
We expect continued growth in this format and will continue to cater to those who want quicker drafts. Getting like-minded drafters together will be a goal this year if possible.
Anyway, we have one area of this contest that I think needs a closer look at it. When we branched out from the $150 DC leagues to the $400 leagues it was with the thought that some owners wanted a little more skin in the game. But because we were offering these leagues so early in the off-season, we didn't want too much risk involved when it came to potential injuries during the off-season. So we came up with the idea of making prizes for first, second and third place the same and the price would be the same as the cost of a Main Event entry ($1,500 at the time).
But maybe the time has come for that $400 investment to be worth a little more. In football, we switched payouts in the $400 DC to more for first and second place instead of the same payout for all three finishers. Is it time for that in baseball?
If so, I'd like to propose a strong payout for first place here to generate a little more interest in the $400 DC. What do you think of this pay structure?
2016 NFBC $400 Draft Champions League
1st Place - $3,000
2nd Place - $1,000
3rd Place - $500
It's pretty similar to the $150 payout structure, but with only $300 going to the overall prize pool we have a little more leeway to reward the top spot. Seems like this could be more interesting than three payouts at $1,500 each.
I'm looking for feedback before we finalize the site. Thanks for any insight here and enjoy the MLB Post-Season.

I like the new prize format much better and think you will see a significant jump in $400 leagues.

Well done, Greg. Long time coming with changing the payout structure for the 400$ leagues. Hope this sticks.

Like it. Thank you. Should eliminate guys who punt 3 categories now.

And this is why I think we have to change the $400 payout to the new structure. Everyone wants to compete for the league prizes in these Draft Champions Leagues, but everyone also has an outside shot at the overall prize pool. When players start punting categories to finish 3rd in this league to win the same amount as the 1st place team it skews the overall competition. Let's get everyone on the same format with similar league prizes and go from there.COZ wrote:Like it. Thank you. Should eliminate guys who punt 3 categories now.

I know there are a lot of people who like the $1,500, $1,500, $1,500 payout plan that we've used in the past. I get it. And some say that $400 to draft early with so many injuries is risky with the new payout structure, so maybe we don't fill as many of these $400 DCs in November and December as we have in the past. But in the long run I think we will generate demand for these larger top league prizes and make the overall competition fairer.
Keep the feedback coming, but I think we're leaning toward the new prize pool. Thanks all.

Re: Feedback Wanted On $400 Draft Champions League
As long as it is part of the overall DC competition, I feel that the prize breakdown has to be consistent with the $150 and $1000 contests.
If there is an interest in a $1500/$1500/$1500 prize breakdown, create a separate satellite league to satisfy those owners.

Why not offer both prize options?

I've participated in a lot of these $400 the last two years. I want to confirm a few posts. Many people play conservative to try to come in at least third. A lot don't try for saves or speed. You can wait to draft closers in later rounds. I like the new payout.

They do, subtly.Cotton1 wrote:Why not offer both prize options?
In the past, the standard was equal pay outs for the top three teams, with requests granted for tiered pay outs.
Now, the tiered pay outs become the standard.
If requested, the equal pay outs can be used for those leagues.

New payout structure is fine. The prior was fun because you were chasing top 3 and could gun it on some cats and not others.
Does anyone share the same view that the $150 DCs are becoming the real mock drafts/testing ground for draft strat and other contests? Or am I late to this party...

You're late to the party, but welcome aboard!! Yes, the $150 Draft Champions Leagues are the new testing ground for those who want to compete early, learn the player pool and win some nice prize money. We've created a new way to mock...and win!!porpus1 wrote:New payout structure is fine. The prior was fun because you were chasing top 3 and could gun it on some cats and not others.

Definitely like the new payout structure. I'd be in. Improvements like this make you want to sign up right now.
