LET'S GO METS!
LET'S GO METS!
I know this is a fantasy baseball forum, but at this point, I'm starting the thread anyway. What a game tonight as it had everything an all or nothing game should have. Should be a good one against the Cubs with the youth of both squads, this could be the 1st of many over the next few years. The Cubs fans that play here will disagree, but my guys Alan and Glenn will back me up that there is only one thing to say about this NLCS.

Re: LET'S GO METS!
Great matchup of the young pitchers vs the young hitters. New York vs Chicago. Very excited for this series. What a game last night. I couldn't sit down all night. Daniel Murphy earned a contract in one game. What a performance. Whatever happens, this has been a fun season.

This isn't Generation K of Bill Pulsipher, Jason Isringhausen, and Paul Wilson. These 3 kids, the Dark Knight, Thor and the Degrominator are the real deal. GO METS!

Ahhh Mark, this thread warms my heart. Every decade or so, we Mets fans are rewarded for our loyalty with a special team. And this team could be very, very special. With the Cubbies not only going up against our young fireballers, but also up against a bitter century long history of the longest dry spell in the history of professional sports, I think it's pretty much a given we'll be back in the World Series. This Cubbies team aint no 2004 Bosox (and these Mets are no 2004 Yankees
).
Bring on the Jays Baby!! The best pitching in baseball against the best lineup. What a Series that would be (though I'd settle for whippin' up on the Royals if need be.
)
All kidding aside, this is fun and what being a fan is all about!!

What a special night. Had the chance to watch a Mets playoff game with my parents for the first time (left for college in September of 86). My mom and I both woke up and asked each other if it was a dream. It's real and it's spectacular. DeGrom was gutsy, Familia was nasty, and Murphy was sublime. Couldn't be more excited for what's to come. LGM!

I feel for them right now.
When their youngest player is similar in age to our manager, and with their glory years long gone by, it must be hard to watch a dynasty in the making right across the bridge in Queens, all young, beyond talented, and committed to being Mets for life.
It's not too late Yankees fans. Convert to the blue and orange now! No one will look upon you any worse than we did when you followed the geriatrics from the Bronx. In fact, we'll welcome you with open arms. We're just good like that.

Nah, not really. The Mets have great pitching, which is easy to appreciate, and as a Yankees fan, I've historically been somewhat indifferent to the Mets. What was really painful for Yankees fans was the Red Sox winning a couple of titles. Of course, Yankees fans want the Yankees to outperform the Mets (which historically has not been that high a barGreg Ambrosius wrote:This has to be painful for all Yankees' fans right now, right?Glenneration X wrote:Ahhh Mark, this thread warms my heart. To all my Mets fans friends, good luck. It is going to be a fun series. As for the NL East...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I had three Bluejays on my post season roster (only one Ranger), so I admit I was sweating it...

WORLD SERIES BOUND! Murphy has put on the best postseason show in recent history and the pitchers just pounded the zone, one after another. Just solid baseball all around. Whether it's vs. KC or Toronto, there is still only 1 thing to say about the World Series.

Re: LET'S GO METS!
Congrats to all the Mets fans. A total dominant performance vs. the Cubs. Hate to say it, because I thought this Cubs team might be special, but the better team won. And because of that, I don't feel disappointed. It's not like ya feel like a lesser team got the breaks and beat ya. Without rehashing the details of the whole Series, I am struck with the thought that the Mets are the team the Nationals hoped to be. And although Omar Minaya drafted Harvey & DeGrom, it was Sandy Alderson who made the trade of Dickey for Syndegaard + d'Arnaud. Is there are a more underrated, great GM in baseball? Was interesting when they interviewed Alderson after the game, he specifically thanked ownership for signing off on the deals at the deadline....makes ya wonder what more Alderson could have done without his hands tied. And yet, he still put together an NL Championship team. Incredible run the Mets are on. As a kid who grew up watching the Mets on WWOR in the 80's (along with the Mort Downey, Jr. show + Howard Stern's Saturday Night show), I have always had a bit of a fondness for the Mets like I do the Braves.

Re: LET'S GO METS!
CONGRATS to all of our great Mets fans in the NFBC. That was truly a dominating performance. The pitching is sensational, but the hitting since Aug. 1st has been off the charts. Pretty cool to see a team that probably shouldn't even have gone for it at the trade deadline to making the right deals that got them to the World Series. There's hope for all of our teams now.
The Cubs had a phenomenal season and the future is bright there. If you thought Cubs' spring training tickets were tough to get before this year, WATCH OUT!! Man, that's going to be the hottest ticket in Arizona this spring and nothing will rival it. Cubs' fans are totally on the Theo bandwagon now and they have a young nucleus that could challenge for titles for years and years to come. Very impressive Theo. You are the poster child for all of us wanna-be GMs!!
It's been a fun post-season and with David Price on the mound in Game 6 the ALCS isn't over yet, either. Anything can happen there over two games. Should be a fun finish and then a very unsuspecting World Series matchup. Can't wait.
CONGRATS again to all our Mets' fans. I remember the abuse Glenn took from his Yankee counterparts at the NFBC 12-Team Super League draft two years ago, but as a die-hard Mets' fan he stayed loyal and took the abuse. Now look he's laughing now. Kudos to the Big Apple, which I think will all rally around a Mets' win. Enjoy.

Oh I remember now, been so long since they've been relevant, forgot they even played. Still, thought this was a thread about baseball, not golfers.

Oh, and Russ.....

Maybe next year Bud.

Glenn,
Even as a lifelong Yankee fan I am happy to see the Mets make the World Series. And I am especially happy for you my friend since you are a classy gentleman who has been loyal to his team through the years. Enjoy Daniel Murphy doing his best Lou Gehrig imitation! Your team may have the best pitching staff I have seen in many years. Enjoy every bit of the World Series run for your Mets
. You deserve it my friend!

Re: LET'S GO METS!
Well that was painful. A little tired today as I stayed up until the final pitch last night and then had trouble falling asleep while thinking about that tough extra inning loss. Familia blowing the game brought back memories of Benitez... yikes!
It also got me thinking about the Mets World Series history. This is their 5th trip to the Series and for the 5th straight time, they've lost the 1st game. For the 4th straight time, it was a 1-run defeat. And for the 2nd straight time, the loss came in extra innings. Wow, talk about putting your best foot forward.
The good news, of those four previous World Series Game 1 losses, the Mets went on to win two of the Series, pushed another to seven games and probably should have one that one with a 3-2 lead and Seaver & Matlack going games 6 & 7, and while losing 4 out of 5 in 2000, three of the losses were by a single run, the last by 2, and we probably would have bridged that minute gap if only the Mets had as good a Balco chemist as the Evil Empire.
In other words, tough loss, but only one game. And tonight's another one. Hopefully tonight's is over before 1:30am and with our Mets entering the win column. Can't wait! Let's Go Mets!!!
