A few years ago, I banged the drum for cheaper auctions in the NFBC. Thanks mostly to the efforts of my friend Todd Zola, those auctions have taken off and increased substantially.
Back in the day, the only auctions available to NFBC members were 'live' and cost at least $500. Most, a lot more than that.
Now with Andy Saxton and Todd running auctions at the RTSports auction room, we can all join the fun.
I believe auctions are part of the next step that the NFBC has to take for its members. Greg has unveiled a new contest for this year.
I hope it does well.
But before another new contest is initiated in the future, the thirst for auctions has to be quenched.
The auctions at a cost of $125 or $250 starting in January, are a good long drink, but we need a water cooler!
A partnership with another company, such as RTSports or another company with an auction room would be a huge step for the NFBC.
A partnership would benefit both the to be named company and the NFBC.
That company would be introduced to the NFBC's data base of customers. Customers who spend a lot of money to play fantasy baseball and football.
That company would reap many rewards in hosting drafts by NFBC members.
The NFBC would also benefit with this arrangement.
I believe that we would have so many auctions that it would lend itself to an Overall contest.
Auctions could be part of our site.
Not just taking sign ups from the Message Board.
Also, the NFBC could offer a 'gentle push' to its partner in opening its rooms earlier to accommodate NFBC customers.
Greg has stated in the past that building an auction room is a significant task.
This is the best way around that cost. It would also ease the minds of NFBC customers who doubt a STATS technology challenged IT.
There are many, many folks who wanto participate in auctions.
What we have now is wonderful. Folks are finally getting the opportunity that only the well-to-do had a chance at before.
It's close to that time when more needs to be done.
Auctions
Re: Auctions
If there was an auction version of the main event or even a smaller scale auction championship anywhere from $125-$300 entry I'd buy a few teams every year and never go anywhere else for fantasy. Snake drafts just don't do it for me.
Re: Auctions
Agree! I am convinced that the demand for auctions is huge! Many thanks to Andy and Todd for their efforts. There is just nothing like an auction and especially nothing like a live auction!
Re: Auctions
Good topic Dan, but since auctions are just an alternate way to pick your first 23 players why not just make auctions a full part of the overall Draft Champ contest? There really isn't an edge to one format over the other, so everyone can pick their draft preference for competing in the overall DC contest; the final 27 rounds would revert to a slow draft. We already have slow and express drafts which are arguably "different" in the same contest, so why not slow, express and auction options?
Also, having 23 rounds in the bag in one day shortens the remaining slow portion by almost half. And It helps grow the existing DC contest leading to bigger prizes.

Good idea (as usual), Kevin.KJ Duke wrote:Good topic Dan, but since auctions are just an alternate way to pick your first 23 players why not just make auctions a full part of the overall Draft Champ contest? You should put it under the new ideas for DC's on the top subject line. More eyes would see it.
There would be folks concerned about the meshing of the two formats. There always is, when something different is introduced.
There would also be the adp police who want a pristine catalog.
Maybe the auctions could still be kept out of the DC's while still being a part of the Overall.
Worth a shot on the top subject line, for sure.
On my tombstone-
Wait! I never had the perfect draft!
