405+ Teams Now In 2016 NFBC Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Feb 23, 2016 10:01 am

We have created a lot of threads on these boards for upcoming online leagues with the hope of alerting folks about them before they sell out. Now we'll create a special thread that gives you the latest update on our signature event, our Main Event.

This is the 13th year for our Main Event and we've sold it out each of the last 11 years. Here's a look at our growth of the Main Event through the years:

NFBC MAIN EVENT: NUMBER OF TEAMS
2004 - 195 teams
2005 - 300 teams
2006 - 330 teams
2007 - 375 teams
2008 - 390 teams
2009 - 390 teams
2010 - 435 teams
2011 - 390 teams (Fanball sold season)
2012 - 420 teams
2013 - 435 teams
2014 - 420 teams
2015 - 450 teams

Prizes are based on 450 teams again this year as the Main Event returns for Season 13. We have openings for the live events at the Bellagio Las Vegas, New York Hilton and Sheraton Northbrook in Chicago. We also have openings in the Main Event Online. Four great ways to play in the Main Event and multiple dates to choose from.

Back a few years ago when I had the time to do it, I used to introduce every new signup to the Main Event. I no longer can do that with all of the online drafts we have every single day here, but I do plan on using this thread to highlight the number of teams we currently have, how many spots we have left once we get under 100, and alert you to some of the newest signups. We'll make this thread fun and interactive. Enjoy.

Thanks all. We are off to a great, great start this year with all of our events and we trust that once baseball hits the airwaves and we start seeing sunshine and green grass that EVERYTHING will fill up. Keep watching the signup threads and the Countdown list, but don't wait too long or your desired spot could be gone. Thanks all and best of luck to everyone in all of our contests.

Re: 260+ Teams Now In 2016 NFBC Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Feb 23, 2016 10:30 am

In 2004 when we hosted the debut NFBC Main Event at the Rio in Las Vegas, it was actually in conjunction with the Fantasy Sports Trade Conference that I also ran. The Trade Conference would be Tuesday through Thursday and then we decided to host the AL and NL only auctions on Friday and the Main Event on Saturday. That was all we had.

Well, with so many industry writers in Las Vegas at the time I thought for sure we'd get more folks to stick around for the NFBC and compete for the greatest grand prize the baseball industry had ever seen. But surprisingly few joined that first year.

I remember we got Chris Liss to draft live in Las Vegas and so did Nate Ravitz of Rototimes.com. At the last minute we got Matthew Berry to fill a league in Las Vegas. At the time Matthew was writing for Rotoworld.com and was organizing RotoPass.com. Rick Cordella of Rotoworld.com also drafted in New York, as did Brian Walton of Mastersball.com. In Chicago, Dave Gawron drafted live.

That was it. We still don't have a lot of industry writers testing their skills against the masses in the NFBC, but it's still a strong list. Nate was the last one to draft every year from the list above, as he teamed with Glenn Colton the last couple of years for a Main Event Online team. But Nate has an expanding family and a tougher work load at ESPN.com and he said this weekend that he can't return. We will miss him for this year.

But the good news is that Glenn is returning with a team on Saturday, April 2nd Online and he's teaming with good buddy Rick Wolf. Yes, Colton & The Wolfman will be in the NFBC Main Event Online on April 2nd, their first partnership in the Main. It's great to have them here and we expect to see their S.M.A.R.T. system in play. Welcome aboard guys and best of luck.

We are glad to have a lot of the industry's writers and bloggers in our contests and we welcome more. What better way to make a name for yourself than to win the NFBC Main Event? And the $125,000 grand prize doesn't hurt, either!! 8-) Good luck all and enjoy the unique competition that we've assembled in the NFBC Main Event.

Dan Kenyon joined the NFBC for the first time in 2005 and must have thought this 15-team format was a piece of cake. During his first season, Dan finished second overall, just missing out on the $100,000 grand prize to Brian Oldenski. Dan has since become better known as Doughboys and for his historical passion for baseball, while Brian never returned to the Main Event. Nope, he didn't even come back in 2006 to defend his title. Oh well.

I bring this up because Dan jumped into two Main Events yesterday to try it again. Welcome back Dan and best of luck in the hunt for that elusive Main Event overall title.

Bradley Shairson also jumped into the Main Event yesterday along with his buddy Peter Peluso. Both are coming to the Bellagio Las Vegas on the First Weekend as we're pushing for a second Main Event League there. It's Sweet Sixteen that weekend in Las Vegas, so I think we'll be able to make it happen. We're also trying to fill up the Auction Championship Leagues on Friday and I'm hopeful that we can still do a full $750 Online Championship Plus from the Bellagio on Saturday night.

Good job yesterday everyone and let's keep the signups rolling in.

As we head into March, we now have over 280 Main Event teams with a goal of 30 full leagues. Draft spots for First Weekend Main Event Leagues will be announced three weeks from today!! Can you believe it? As spring training games hit the airwaves this week, it's time to lock down your teams because everything is filling up fast. Thanks all and good luck this season.

Greg, are we basically on track with last year?
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Yes. To have almost 300 Main Event signups before spring training games are shown is amazing. But more importantly to have 9 full Auction Championship Leagues already, full Platinum, Diamond, Ultimate and AL & NL Auction Leagues is amazing. We've had to fill all of those the week before draft dates before. Right now it's really coming down to a couple of high-dollar private leagues, a couple more auctions, Easter weekend in Las Vegas, the debut Online Championship Plus leagues and the remaining Main spots. It sounds like a lot, but it's actually less than past years.

The way people sign up for things today is so different than before. People now wait until the last minute for everything and I expect the Mains and especially the Online Championship Plus leagues to be the same thing. I believe people want to play that 12-team format for more league prize money, so I think those will do very well in late March. It's just that they are going to sell out last minute just like the $350 Online Championship Leagues do.

Everything is good. Just don't wait too long if you're planning to get into these remaining contests. It feels like everything is going to sell out. Thanks all and good luck.

We gonna get the Diamond Auction?

We gonna get the Diamond Auction?
This one is a concern because we've been stuck at 9 or 10 for the last month. We definitely will begin talking about the alternatives here first thing tomorrow. It's time to have a contingency plan in place and maybe that's an Ultimate Auction League on Saturday and Sunday night. That's what we had two years ago. Look for that discussion to start tomorrow.

We had over 20 Main Event signups yesterday -- our best day of the entire off-season -- to jump over the 300 mark. We now have Less Than 150 Main Event spots left!! :D Don't delay if you want to compete for this year's $125,000 grand prize.

I have left the Monday, March 28th Main Event Online on Registration because right after we closed that league with 6 signups yesterday, we got a couple more. I'll leave that one and the Wednesday March 30th Main Event Online open for one more league, knowing that we need 15 teams to fill those. We don't have any other city hookups on those days, so we need full leagues or else there. Plan accordingly, but yesterday proved that once we get within range of a sellout those last spots can go fast.

Thanks all for a FANTASTIC Tuesday -- a Super Tuesday even -- and get your teams soon. The NFBC Main Event is headed toward a 12th straight sellout in a record year. Good luck all.

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Mon Mar 07, 2016 8:56 pm

Things are really starting to pick up now for our live events, especially the Main Event. We reached 330 teams tonight with a goal of 30 full leagues, 450 teams. We know we have some work to do with this jigsaw puzzle, but it always seems to come together nicely. It's getting tougher with Easter in the way, but hopefully it all works out.

Anyway, check out the Signup List, the Countdown and this thread throughout the next 3 weeks. We have a great shot at selling out the Main Event for a 12th straight season. Thanks all and good luck.

We can always try for a 7th league in Las Vegas, but with no other city to hook up to that weekend it gets dicey. Let's see where it takes us, but six leagues is a guarantee. Time to lock in your spot.

We're nearing 350 teams in the Main Event right now, leaving us with only 101 spots left. It's been a nice push these last two weeks and I'm sure it's going to continue. Now we need perfect fits in each city and Online for each draft date. That's when it gets tough, but anything is possible.

Don't wait too long to secure your spots in the best fantasy baseball contest in the industry, once again with a $125,000 grand prize. Thanks all and keep the signups coming. :D

NOW ONLY 95 SPOTS LEFT in the NFBC Main Event. It's hard to believe, but two weeks from today we'll be drafting in three different cities and Online. And in three weeks we'll be hosting the final Main Events in Las Vegas and Online. Amazing.

Don't delay if you're looking to get into the Main Event because several leagues are close to filling.

NOW LESS THAN 90 SPOTS LEFT in the NFBC Main Event. We are shooting for 450 teams -- 30 full leagues -- this year and have less than three weeks left to sell everything out. Can we do it? I'm feeling the Bern!!

Check out the Countdown Page here and stay on top of every available league before they sell out. Thanks all.

NOW LESS THAN 80 SPOTS LEFT in the 2016 NFBC Main Event!!

We have over 370 teams signed, sealed and delivered for the NFBC's Main Event this year. We're shooting for 450 teams, same as last year. Now we need to fit the jigsaw puzzle together and get every city filled. Can we do it? I don't know, but we'll sure try.

Thanks all and don't delay if you want to secure a spot. Spots are going fast. Good luck.

Just a heads up that we passed the 375 team mark in the NFBC Main Event and while doing so we also filled up our second Main Event Online League on Wednesday, March 30th. The Wednesday and Thursday Main Event Online Leagues have been pretty popular, so I'm going to keep them open at this point. Now we need to get 15 more teams on that Wednesday to make it work, but again we have 9 more days to make that happen so let's go for it. Thanks all.

The good news about the Main Event this year is that we have several owners who are moving up from the Online Championship to the Main Event, plus we're getting several first-time players in this contest. It's good to see. There are fewer pay-to-play season-long options out there for folks this year -- which is disappointing from the industry's standpoint -- and the NFBC is the new home for a lot of players. We welcome everyone to the NFBC.

Good luck all and keep 'em coming. It would be great to top 400 teams before we leave next week for Las Vegas and New York. Make it happen.

We're making a nice push for a second Main Event Online League on Monday, March 28th as we added two more teams tonight. One of them is our inaugural overall champion as Artie Rastelli is drafting Online this year with his dad. LOVE IT that Artie still does this with his dad. Also drafting that night is Lindy Hinkelman, who has a pair of overall Main Event titles. Geez, that's 3 of the 12 Main Event titles right there. Pretty cool.

If you want a challenge, this night will give you a good one. Let's fill up this second league and have some fun that night. Here's the owners in that night:

MAIN EVENT ONLINE
Monday, March 28, 8 p.m. ET
1. Christopher Link, Perry, Georgia
2. Matthew Bredin, Clyde River, Canada
3. Thomas Warner, Houston, Texas
4. Michael O'Brien, Brighton, Colorado
5. Ronny Mor, San Diego, California
6. Lenny Diveglio, Medford, New York
7. Nathan Chart, New Berlin, Wisconsin
8. Abdulaziz Madani, Boston, Massachusetts
9. Zachary Hargrove, Bismark, North Dakota
10. Shawn Childs, Forestdale, Massachusetts
11. Les Travis, Tucson, New Mexico
12. Robert Zidonik, Temple, Texas
13. Greg Headrick, St. Louis, Missouri
14. adam howe, Belding, Michigan
15. Dusty Wagner, Katy, Texas
16. Eric Heberlig, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania
17. Greg Headrick, Columbia, Maryland
18. Lindy Hinkelman, Greencreek, Idaho
19. Curtis Jones, Germantown, Tennessee
20. Jason Santucci, San Mateo, California
21. Artie Rastelli, Augusta, New Jersey
22. Pat Tremaglio, New York, New York

Re: 380+ Teams Now In 2016 NFBC Main Event

Just a heads up that we now have less than 70 Main Event spots left and when it comes to the First Weekend Mains we have to make some tough decisions sooner rather than later. If you want to compete on Thursday, March 24th in New York or Saturday, March 26th in New York, Las Vegas, Chicago or Online please don't wait until the very end. We did say that we will allow signups for that date through Sunday, but at some point we need to make these leagues fit perfectly so that everyone gets in.

Right now we have left:

2 Spots In New York Main on Thursday, March 24th (I say 1 as Alan should get in)
1 Spot In New York Main on Saturday, March 26th for a 3rd full league
7 Spots In Chicago Main on Saturday, March 26th for a 2nd full league
8 Spots In Las Vegas Main on Saturday, March 26th for a 2nd full league

The March 26th Online has 2 full leagues and we can start on a 3rd one, but like everything else we can't wait until the last minute. We could likely hook up Chicago and Las Vegas now and be done with it, but I know there's the potential for more owners in each city. We have other veteran owners who I'm talking with now who are trying to attend each city. Chicago could get real close and Las Vegas has more working on their schedules now. And I'd love to get the 4th league in New York.

So we'll give it to Sunday, but again don't wait until the last minute or there's a chance we won't be able to get you into a full league. And that's the key right now. If you need help with anything, contact me at [email protected] or at 715-254-5553. Let's make this work.

Also, we just filled up our 2nd Main Event Online on Wednesday, March 30th. We're trying to fill Monday, March 28th and Thursday, March 31st now. Help us do that and we'll move onto the final weekend in Las Vegas and Online. See how easy this is? Thanks all and good luck.

Re: 390+ Teams Now In 2016 NFBC Main Event

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Fri Mar 18, 2016 9:29 am

We now have less than 60 spots left in the NFBC Main Event for 2016 as we just topped 390 teams this morning. We are going to lock down First Weekend very soon and move forward. We've reached out to all of the Chicago drafters and if we can't get beyond 24 we'll make ends meet between Chicago and Las Vegas. The hope was for two full leagues there and we have some potential, but we'll make that decision over the weekend. Last call for Windy City drafters.

Our next focus is the Monday, March 28th Main Event Online. We have ONLY 6 SPOTS THERE. We are picking draft spots by Wednesday, March 23rd and will mix this group up if we can get to 30 owners by that time. If you are looking at that date, please sign up soon and set your KDS preferences by Wednesday at 8 am ET. Thanks all.

Here's the current signup list for that one:

NFBC MAIN EVENT ONLINE
Monday, March 28, 8 p.m. ET
1. Christopher Link, Perry, Georgia
2. Matthew Bredin, Clyde River, Canada
3. Thomas Warner, Houston, Texas
4. Michael O'Brien, Brighton, Colorado
5. Ronny Mor, San Diego, California
6. Lenny Diveglio, Medford, New York
7. Nathan Chart, New Berlin, Wisconsin
8. Abdulaziz Madani, Boston, Massachusetts
9. Zachary Hargrove, Bismark, North Dakota
10. Shawn Childs, Forestdale, Massachusetts
11. Les Travis, Tucson, New Mexico
12. Robert Zidonik, Temple, Texas
13. Greg Headrick, St. Louis, Missouri
14. adam howe, Belding, Michigan
15. Dusty Wagner, Katy, Texas
16. Eric Heberlig, New Cumberland, Pennsylvania
17. Lindy Hinkelman, Greencreek, Idaho
18. Curtis Jones, Germantown, Tennessee
19. Jason Santucci, San Mateo, California
20. Artie Rastelli, Augusta, New Jersey
21. Pat Tremaglio, New York, New York
22. Alan Salem, Oceanside, New York
23. Bill Strickler, Holiday, Florida
24. Jared Eagle, Jackson, New Jersey

We've also shut off Wednesday, March 30th Main Event Online and may shut off March 26th Online soon. That would leave us with only Thursday, March 31st Main Event Online, Saturday, April 2nd Main Event Online and Saturday, April 2nd Las Vegas Online. We have some work to do to get to 450 teams this year, but we'll give it a good host. Thanks all and best of luck.

NOW ALMOST 400 MAIN EVENT TEAMS with one week before our first live drafts and two weeks away from our last live drafts!! Things are coming together nicely, so pay attention to what's left. Here we go:

For Online:
Monday, March 28th, 8 pm ET - 5 Spots Left
Thursday, March 31st, 8 pm ET - 2 Spots Left
Saturday, April 2nd, 1 pm ET - 15 Spots Left (we just filled our third league, but plenty of time for this last one)

We are working on Chicago and Las Vegas First Weekend. We also have 3 Spots Left for Las Vegas Main on Saturday, April 2nd at 10 am PT. That would do it.

Don't delay if you want to compete for this year's $125,000 grand prize because spots are limited. Thanks all and good luck.

One owner had to switch from Main Event Online on April 2nd to March 28th, so once again we have an opening on Saturday, April 2nd Main Online. Next one in fills up that third league. Thanks.
