The Main Event is still the Main Event.....but it's not the same.

I understand the economics of multiple weekends and the online option for Greg and the NFBC when it comes to the ME, but it has in my mind degraded the event. I know I not alone in this thought.
There have been several posts on the MB over the past month lamenting multiple entries. I know in Chicago we had a couple of casual conversations about multiple entries.

I know it won't happen, but for the me I would like to go back to one owner-one team (Yes, I know that might not have exactly been the case in every instance as there were some "proxy" owners in the old days)

I would gladly have the Overall prize reduced back to 100K and cap the event at 300 separate owners.

And this is not to criticize owners of multiple teams, they are doing what they are afforded the opportunity of doing, I'm just stating my personal preference as to what I think the Main Event should be.
This is why many do not do the Main any longer. Too many owners trying to buy the championship. Priced better fantasy players out of the market.
Rob you've been singing this song since 2009 and yet you still come on our boards to 1) Recruit players for your local league; or 2) Trash the NFBC for the way we've grown.

We've had several players -- even first-time players -- win our national contests with one entry. Multiple entries don't guarantee a single thing. To each his own and providing multiple dates and times to compete is the way the industry is going. Sure, I wish we all showed up once live in each city, but you players have spoken that you're too busy and can't all do just one date and one time, so we've accommodated. So has every other contest in the industry. I'm not sure where you're going to find a one entry fantasy contest anymore, so continually coming on our boards to request for that isn't solving anything.

Well said, Greg. My money is on the single-entry field 8-)

In 2015, this same owner had 49 Teams in the 2015 Rotowire O.C. at a cost of $16,350 (with the 3 team discount).

He did not finish in the money Overall. He did win (4) 1st and (7) 2nd place league prizes with the 49 Teams:

1st place = 4 x $1400 = won $5,600

2nd place = 7 x $700 = won $4,900

So all totaled, he lost $5,850 in 2015 in the Rotowire O.C.

However, he did come in 1st place Overall in the 2013 Rotowire O.C. and won the top prize of $70,000 that year and had 22 Teams entered in that contest.

Here is what he had to say about winning the top prize:

To be honest I don't think he's that good of a player. Definitely better than average but not that good. When you put that volume of teams out there, by the stroke of sheer luck some will rise to the top.

Don't kid yourself, he is a very very good player. He must have help managing that many FAAB teams. But make no mistake he's one of the top players in the NFBC.

I disagree completely. Here are some numbers for Eric:

2015 online: 49 teams and ave overall finish of 559 out of 1500 teams = 73rd percentile of all teams.

2014 online: 28 teams and ave overall finish of 305 out of 1248 teams = 76th percentile.

Using your "sheer luck" argument you could argue that by "sheer luck" he will have a bunch of teams that end up near the bottom as well? 77 teams over two years is a pretty significant sample size and I think the numbers speak for themselves. In my opinion, he is one of the top players in the game. The fact that he has this much success with this many teams makes it even more impressive to me. Clearly we are all entitled to our opinions. I just wanted to point out what I feel is a very impressive record / history.

Equally / more impressive was the Chad / Joe domination of primetime last year. Here is their record:

2015 Primetime: 16 teams and ave overall finish of 40 out of 204 teams = 80th percentile. Wow.

Now back to Mazara......

I've been in leagues with Eric and I am again this year and I'll say he's an excellent player. I feel that multiple entries should be allowed for the ME or any other league. You put your money up and you play. He's won an overall and that speaks to his skill set here. I e-mailed him after he won the overall and we was very gracious in his response. Seems like a real good guy.

Sheer luck does not mean you'll have a bunch teams near the bottom. Your "tails" of your distribution will mean that you'll have less teams near the bottom, and an above average player will have even less teams near the bottom (given a normal distribution of results).

Not to degrade his success there - but is the 73/76 percentile that elite versus the population? Maybe there are teams who only did a few Online leagues who ranked higher. I bring this up because looking at his Main Event results - against arguably stronger competition - his average finish is:

2012 = placed 205th
2013 = placed 201st
2014 = 3 teams, 80 percentile average
2015 = 5 teams, 50 percentile average

I'd be curious to know how everyone ranks historically using the percentile method in the Main Event.

The guy came in second overall one year and then won it all the next year. Why you're even arguing whether or not he is "elite" is ridiculous, especially considering the guy is not here boasting about his success nor asked to be put under the microscope. I don't even know the guy, but have been in a Primetime with him. Like Chad Schroder, he puts his money up against all comers & backs it up, unlike many who seem to weigh the competition before jumping into a league. I don't care how many leagues he's in, that alone deserves respect, not to mention his Overall title. If he has the money & time to have that many teams, I say more power to him.

I am by no means questioning the man's character or motivation by doing what he does. If he wants to field dozens of teams, so be it. I surely don't have the time to make such an attempt. I'm in plenty with twenty various teams myself.

But if you blindfold someone and have them throw 100 darts at a dartboard they're going to hit the bullseye a couple of times.

I don't get the reasoning for bashing this guy because he has a lot of teams and grading him on his finishes. He won an overall against the best fantasy players in the world (over 1,000, I believe) and doesnt come on here boasting or asking for props or recognition, like some. He seems like a good guy who has the time and money to enter a lot of entries into these events. I have 2 main event teams and 3 auction teams. By no means do I solely enter multiple contests, just to better my percentages to win an overall championship. I love to draft. In every format the NFBC offers. As long as the games are offered, I am entering them because I love it. I think Eric does the same, at a higher volume.

I wish I had the money and time that Eric does, or I might do the same. No reason for the bashing.

He is a really good player, especially in the 12 team format. I just hope that he really is enjoying this. I hope that it is not an addiction gone out of control. It is too many teams to properly manage. There is no way he can do them all how I would have tried to do them. He may have less anal procedures than I do though. Procedures that still work just fine to win championships. I got burnt out and called it a day and we had dramatically less teams. I sincerely hope he is in a good place and I wish him well. On the off chance he isn't, I welcome him to reach out.

To me, this is not about the owner who has 68 teams in one contest, but rather about the strategy, i.e., if I enter enough teams in a contest, can I pretty much guarantee that I will win the top prize because I have so greatly increased my odds of doing that by entering so many more teams than the rest of the field. Obviously, that owner believes this because he went from 49 teams last year to 68 teams this year.

The logistics of managing so many teams is incomprehensible to me. That owner of the 68 teams must have an incredible system set up to do that effectively.

Personally, I don't know this owner and have never competed with him in a 12 team league, but he seems to be well liked by other players who have, and he comes off as a decent guy in that interview he did with Tom when he won.

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16273&p=167687&hilit=2013+Rotowire#p167687

One of the things that I love about the NFBC is that you know that you are competing against the best players in the world. I have always subscribed to the theory that, to be the best, you have to play against the best. Competing now in a contest where one player has 68 teams just adds to that challenge.

Maybe you should pull your head out of your ass. At no point should anyone speculate that someone may be an addict on s public message board even if you say on the off chance. I didn't hear you speculate that maybe he has 12 partners or some other thing just that he might have an issue. So my point was why even say it. Ridiculous! And this is coming from someone in recovery. Sweep your side of the street buddy!
