I don't think I've ever posted about politics before, but I can't let this thread go untouched. I'm soooooooo tired of this political campaign trashing our country and hearing folks like Mark say that our country is doomed. Every country in the world wishes they were as bad off as the United States. WE AREN'T DOOMED FOLKS.Gekko wrote:listen - the 'country' as we knew it, is done. doesn't matter who is president. just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic.

depression much worse than the first depression is on the horizon. just debating WHEN it will hit, not IF. fuck'n done.
not much you can do, other than stay out of debt. even then, no guarentees
Maybe some of you are too young to remember our past. Like the 1960s when our parents thought us young whippersnappers were just rebelious. Bottom line is that we couldn't trust our government and the youngsters were proven right. The country looked to be going up in flames in the 1960s, especially in 1968 when we had civil rights leaders assassinated, presidential candidates assassinated, and political conventions turned into WWE matches. You think the country was better off then? No way.
How about the 1970s when we really couldn't trust the government, even forcing our President to be impeached. Or failing to rescue our hostages. Or seeing our economy going up in flames, to the point where the interest rate was 21%. Serial murderers were all the rage in the 1970s, along with our first terrorist attacks. Check out the video of the Bronx or New York City in the 1970s. You think our country was better off then? No way.
You could go on and on like this with each following decade. Hell, when I bought my first place in 1985 the interest rate was DOWN to 14 1/2 percent. Today it's like 3 1/4 percent. The U.S. was being passed by Japan in technology, auto and other areas. Again, you can go on and on and on. As for the national debt -- which is a MAJOR concern and something that won't be cured as long as we have spineless politicians whose number one job is to get re-elected -- there's been debt every year since the Revolutionary War. Debt isn't good and adding so much debt that the interest rate becomes as big of an expense as Social Security is bad. But again, until we demand a balanced budget how can we possibly start cutting down on the debt? Every year just adds to it no matter which party is in office.
Again, I'm not here to debate the direction of our country because I do think this presidential race should be scary for all Americans. Is this REALLY the best we have to offer as presidential candidates? Really? The Republicans had 8 years to come up with a plan and this was it?

Our country can do better. I agree Mark, I'm looking at my latest medical bills from three kids going to get blood tests and I kid you not, it was $2,400. This was blood tests and an office visit with a Thyroid specialist, but really? $2,400? And I have a second child getting ready for college and those two tuition costs will double what I paid for my house. It all sucks, but we aren't doomed. Maybe this two-party system implodes this year. Maybe citizens call for changes in unlimited terms. There appears to be some simple solutions that can definitely improve this stupid political system, which fixes things. A balanced federal budget like the states work under would be a good first step.
We're the envy of the free world. What we need is for citizens to say ENOUGH to the stupidity of our political system. We don't need a politician to make America great again. We need stronger families, better education, better faith, better policies. Americans can make all of that happen by demanding for it.
I sure hope a miracle happens before November, though. I can't stand to watch anymore of this.
Carry on.
