Got the Cubs at +105 in my opinion one of maybe 10 games this year they won't be a betting favorite. Scherzer prone to the Homerun ball here's hoping Rizzo catches up with a heater for a 3 run bomb. As always control Harper.

Jorge Soler sitting again. Javier Baez at SS, Bryant in LF. Because of his defense + baserunning, it's clear Maddon favors Javy over Soler who seems to be in the proverbial dog-house. Once he has SS, 3B, & OF eligibility, with his power/speed combo, Baez is going to be a valuable commodity. Who woulda thought that after the Schwarber injury, that Baez would be the true beneficiary for more PT? Of course I have Soler everywhere, and one share of Baez. I think Cubs best line-up is Baez at 3B + Bryant in LF and Maddon's decision-making seems to affirm this.

I'm in same boat as you, but I agree with your assessment. I thought Soler was in line for a lot of playing time.

coz- i said this before- you better get used to this with maddon. he believes in "freshness" along stats/platoon splits along with flat out hunches. rizzo is gonna play and probably bryant and russel . everyone else is day to day.- but they are winning- which is all that counts. plus- you are leading the auction so who cares about anything but that anyway.

Soler on the drop list for me ... been waiting for Drury to get OF eligibility - the day has finally arrived. :)

Man, I was late on Drury. Tried to get him last week, went for $178, far above my bid.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Mike,

I don't disagree with you but I would add Fowler, Heyward, + Zobrist as the pretty much everyday line-up to the names above. As Theo recently said on a local radio interview, depth + versatility is everything in MLB baseball today. Their signing of Fowler and reluctance to deal Baez or Soler on the position player end, and pitching wise, the signing of Travis Wood + Cahill as well as trading for Adam Warren show a concerted effort by the Front Office in the off-season to give Maddon this roster flexibility. Credit to Maddon for utilizing this flexibility. But yes, this roster juggling is maddon-ing (pun intended) as a fantasy player.

coz- pretty much agree- but as the year goes on and they are up by 30 or 40 or 50 games in the standings old guys like zobrist will only play 4 times a week in august and september. in fact theo told me that baez, soler and maybe heyward could pitch a little in september when they are 40 games in front.

Very generous of Scherzer to indulge my habits. 3 run homer although not from Rizzo. The Cubs got 105-110 wins written all over this season. Pirates and Cardinals have flaws, and the Brewers and Reds are hopeless this year.

I'll take the Over on that.

Record of 116 wins in a season is in jeopardy with this team.

Certainly in play I pulled out my old handicapper hat and assuming 108 wins I'm showing Vegas books would have the Cubs -190 on any given day as a break even for the books. The late 1990's Yankee teams are probably the closest comparison. There are only going to be a hand full of games where they are not prohibitive favorites. One of the few times I can remember where odds won't be set on who is on the mound.

A top pitcher goes down to TJS and he doesn't even get a mention ... We're used to it.

The Philly Pitching Phenoms are crashing back to earth ...

Last 3 starts for Eickoff/Velasquez: 4.81/1.25, 7.2/2.4 k/bb ... pedestrian, and tack on another 4 ER thru 2 for Velasquez tonight and the ERA jumps to 5.50. :o Time to call in the reinforcements Gek !

Injury bug hits...

Carlos Martinez, Taijuan Walker, Eduardo Escobar, Ellsbury....
Just a coincidence that this happens just into the first game of a lineup period....

Carlos Martinez out with fatigue. Same early diagnosis Garrett Richards had maybe the Angels and Cards have the same Doctor. Is fatigue the new buzzword for TJ?

It's worse than 'general soreness'.
