Looking for Wrigley field tips

Post by Driver Love » Fri May 06, 2016 2:54 pm

Headed to Chicago on business in mid June. Obviously always wanted to go to Wrigley. I plan to see a game. Any tips on best places to sit, best ways to get tix?

This is what I posted a couple years ago, but I think it's still relevant. There are no hotels near the stadium, you'll want to stay downtown and take the Red Line "El" which has a stop right at the stadium or cab/uber to the Stadium. Plenty of bars/restaraunts....I like Vines, Bernies, Casey Moran's, & John Barleycorn which are all on Clark St. as suggestions. Hope this helps.
As I posted once before, I think the Upper Deck infield box seat is a tremendous value ticket in terms of cost v view. The upper deck at Wrigley (because there is only one level of boxes) is relatively low to the action, comparable to most modern stadium club levels. For price point, to me, its a great value with a nice view of the field along with a nice view of the city. For pure close-to-the-action-view with no regard to price point, I suggest club box which are seats closet to the field with no walkways separating you and the field. Bullpen and Dugout box are more expensive but provide nothing more than Club Box other than being in the first few rows which to me is too close because seats are level with the field so I actually prefer being a few rows up to provide a bit more perspective so you're looking down on the field a bit, instead of just level with the players. Rooftops, to me, are the out-of-town stupid play, though they do have their positives but more so for bigger groups looking for a relaxed party atmosphere. Bleachers are similar, though, obviously, they have the cache of being able to say you were in the bleachers, but usually are a younger, drunker crowd. If you've outgrown that scene and want a seat back, avoid the bleachers.

Terrace Box is an underrated seat providing a nice price point and good value. Terrace Box is rows 1-7 (in front of the poles). Poles supporting the upper deck are in row 6 on the aisles, so if you get into Terrace Reserved territory (Rows 7 +) you risk having your view obstructed. This link provides a quick reference for potential obstructed view seating and has an insider view of seating at Wrigley.

For frame of reference, I am a life-long Chicagoan, Cubs fan, have traveled to a lot of Stadiums, gone to every All-Star game since 2008, and consider myself a bit of a ticket snob and fairly sophisticated seat buyer. I actually just did a Stadium tour this past Sunday....something I always wanted to do...and wanted to do before renovations. I would recommend that as well. Stubhub is a good place to buy tickets but beware that Stubhub purchasing shuts down 6 hours prior to gametime, just learned that this year. Hope this helps. if you have any other questions or need suggestions, please do not hesitate to ask. My email is ccosley @msn.com. Hope you have a great time!
