#101 she is now back to being a cub fan. 1st a cub fan then a yankee fan now a cub fan. the guy from those pumpkins must hate her. she needs to get smashed. meanwhile in Illinois the republicans are running a guy for senate that is either super stupid or has only 50% brainpower as a result of a blood clot in his brain. in debating tammy duckworth - when duckworth mentioned her family "has bled for this country all the way back to the revolution" - he mocked her saying "your family from Thailand fought in those wars?", forgetting or not being prepared or not being smart enough to realize that everyone has 2 parents and ducky's dad is American and it is his side that has fought. that is the difference between the libertarian not remembering the largest city in Syria ( a memory issue) and an intelligence/ functioning brain issue. I am pretty sure he had a chance- but now none. what an absolute moron. the republicans need to let our governor take complete control of the party in Illinois and get rid of all the rest of these idiots in this state.

Hillary is under investigation yet again.
How anyone (other than those that are on the government gravy train) could cast a vote for this CRIMINAL is beyond my scope of reasoning.

yep- I agree- but then again look how many voted for Nixon when Watergate loomed and Reagan iran- contra. boy I wish wikki was around back then. the dems and repubs just keep putting those heads in the sand. or worse-" when my party is corrupt it is ok but when the other party does it it is awful". THAT really is bad.

Iran-Contra was a 1985/1986 event. Sorry.headhunters wrote:yep- I agree- but then again look how many voted for... Reagan iran- contra. boy I wish wikki was around back then.
Direct U.S. funding of the Contras insurgency was made illegal through the Boland Amendment, the name given to three U.S. legislative amendments between 1982 and 1984 aimed at limiting U.S. government assistance to the Contra's militants. Funding ran out for the Contras by July 1984. The second Boland amendment in effect from 3 October 1984 to 3 December 1985 and stated during the fiscal year 1985 no funds available to the Central Intelligence Agency, the Department of Defense or any other agency or entity of the United States involved in intelligence activities may be obligated or expended for the purpose of or which may have the effect of supporting directly or indirectly military or paramilitary operations in Nicaragua by any nation, organization, group, movement, or individual.
Ironically, military aid to the Contras was reinstated with Congressional consent in October 1986, but the Reagan administration continue to fund the Contras during interim, but Iran was not yet in the picture. On 17 June 1985, the National Security Adviser Robert McFarlane wrote a National Security Decision Directive, which called for the United States to begin a rapprochement with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The first arms sale was in August. So the "Iran" in Iran-Contra was not even thought of until after the 1984 election. The story actually broke in November 1986.
Sorry...I know how you hate Reagan.

ya- wrong on that- actually too lazy to look up the year. couple of points you just are not getting wayne- I voted FOR Reagan- both times. I voted FOR bush. since whatever EXACT day it was that bush raised taxes- I will not vote either party. the more I looked the worse it got. I will just stick with gov't got much bigger under Reagan ( and not just the military)- and iran contra under Reagan was as bad as any of these scandals. if I had to pick 2 presidents in my lifetime I liked I would go with Reagan and ford or kennedy. the rest of them were- imo- smucks. Reagan took responsibility and it wasn't proven that he knew- but it was a big scandal and - as I recall- both Weinberg and north were convicted. north is now a big right wing republican. he makes me sick. on a side note- the most segregated school system in the country- according to john oliver (so it must be true)- ny city. after he said that he should have said that he regrets supporting the democratic party because if ever a factoid proved what hypocrites they are- it is that one. love that public education- send their kids to private schools.

there won't be much outrage from "real" republicans. you know- the ones that won't support the parties nominee. As the GREAT marco Rubio said "tomorrow it could be us". no marco- tomorrow it will be you.

IF Rubio wins his re-election bid. He has gotten a little space in the polls (I really hate the polls) lately, but is certainly not a slam-dunk.headhunters wrote:there won't be much outrage from "real" republicans. you know- the ones that won't support the parties nominee. I posted this before. my wife worked as an election judge for early voting. huge turnout in dupage county- at one time one of the largest republican votes of any county in the u.s. before the Christian right stole the Illinois republican party and ran it into the ground running one issue morons for governor and senate. Except kirk who is totally a war and hate republican. anyway- my wife was surprised by how many women came in and asked" I just want to vote for trump- how do I do that?" these election numbers will mean many things to many people- I am not even sure what those women are telling us.

Re: Somewhat political post, non baseball
I didn't support either major party candidate, but you can still knock me over with a feather. Why did The Donald win?
1) The year of the anti establishment - the Repiglicans had a wide open field and the major message that came out was voters are angry and didn't want to take it anymore. The Demoquacks had a tight control on their field, had a mini-Bernie rebellion, but stuck to their establishment/established candidate. Without the discourse, I think some voters felt cheated Somewhere, Joe Biden somewhere is speed-dialing the big-wigs saying "I told you so!" though, yes, Biden is very establishment.
2) People are not buying what the media is saying about the economy - Look at the rust belt: Pennsylvania (which I would not have predicted for Trump in a million years), West Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois (so far the only Clinton-State) as well as Michigan (not called yet, but Trump leading).
3) Secretary Clinton could not energize the same base as President Obama - See Florida. The Demo's win Florida off six counties (Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Hillsborough, Orange, Pinellas). Sec. Clinton did as well as or better than President Obama in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach (South-eastern Florida) but not quite as well in the I-10 corridor counties and even lost in Pinellas (central Gulf coast - St. Petersburg).
4) People or at least some subset were deathly afraid of Sec. Clinton stacking the Court. I myself would like to see three died-in-the wool liberals (we currently have four), three fire-eating conservatives (we have two plus less than fire eating Roberts) and three moderates (we have one in Kennedy...kindof). Then and only then do I think we can have some balance.
Silver linings:
1) Maybe, just maybe the dog-and-pony show that is Bill and Hillary will go away until Chelsea runs.
2) Maybe, just maybe we will get some Supreme Court Justices better than the automatons like Justice Sotomayor and Justice Kagan. President Trump (oh, God, how my skin crawls) to replace Scalia and perhaps Justices Ginsburg, Breyer, and Kennedy.
Whomever is in office will get the blame for the downturn that is coming. And while the Repiglicans have held onto both Houses of Congress (Dems only picked up one, maybe two Senate seats which can only be viewed as a down ticket loss by Sec. Clinton as the Repigs had 24 of the 34 seats at risk), I expect the Demo's to do well in 2018.
God bless us everyone!

As a side note, below is a list of people who stated they would leave the US if Trump (or in some cases, any Republican) won:
1. Jon Stewart - Where would he move? Another planet.
2. Chelsea Handler - Where would she move? Spain.
3. Neve Campbell - Where would she move? Canada.
4. Lena Dunham - Where would she move? Vancouver.
5. Keegan-Michael Key - Where would he move? Canada.
6. Chloë Sevigny - Where would she move? Nova Scotia.
7. Al Sharpton - Where would he move? Out of here.
8. Natasha Lyonne - Where would she move? A mental hospital.
9. Eddie Griffin - Where would he move? Africa.
10. Amber Rose - Where would she move? Unspecified.
11. Samuel L. Jackson - Where would he move? South Africa.
12. Cher - Where would she move? Jupiter
13. George Lopez - Where would he move? Mexico.
14. Barbra Streisand - Where would she move? Australia or Canada.
15. Raven-Symoné - Where would she move? Canada.
16. Whoopi Goldberg - Where would she move? Unspecified.

For Natasha Lyonne, who wants to self-admit to a mental hospital, the largest mental institution in the country is actually a wing of a county jail. Known as Twin Towers, because of the design, the facility houses 1,400 mentally ill patients in one of its two identical hulking structures in downtown Los Angeles. Natasha, I have let them know you are coming.
For Miley, Al, and Whoopie, who just weren't sure where they wanted to go, I just sent them a simple map to get them started so they could at least know the difference between their own asses and a hole in the ground.
But, in any regard, those on the list did not get what they wanted. Neither did I, but I am staying. So, to all those witty pseudo-intellectual dribble pots:

Elections are so funny. We get so concerned about something we have no control over.
Sure, our vote gives us a sense that we have control, but really we know we don't.
We vote in the name of democracy, not that we really think it'll make a difference.
In this election, we were voting for worse or worse.
That's what each candidate stated over and over again. That the other was worse than the other.
So, we had no choice but to vote for a worst.
We have enough going on in our own lives to really put too much thought in politics.
The common man will go back to work today as he did yesterday.
Just as he will in January too.
He did his duty. We all did.
We just will hope that next time, its a better or better to vote for instead of a worse or worse.
By the way. I believe the real loser is the press and media.
Most smart folks refuse taking polls.
These polls used by the media were rendered meaningless.
Their rhetoric, the same.

4:45 cst I leave my polling judge chair at the park district building and walk to the workout room and look at the 2 TV's that have cnn and fox on. they both have exit poll info that say "56% of exit voters say they pretty much hate trump". I figure he loses and go back to work. 6pm the polls close and we start closing down. 7pm I am grabbing the actual tape of the vote totals- 1st precinct I see- trump 992 Hilary 980. now dupage county WAS 65-35 repubs about 25 years ago but now about 58- 42 . even though the other 3 precincts are better for him- he has less votes in all cases than the other 3 top repubs on the ballot. I figure he lost. 8 pm - I walk back to health club- trump is winning fla, wisc, nc, nh, big lead in ohio and close in penn minny and mich. I am shocked. leave at 9m to drive results to dupage county seat. the dem who is driving does not have the radio on- he thinks I am repub- because I needed to identify dem or repub to be a judge. we talk ill. politics. I get home at 10pm. my son who used to LOVE Ronald Reagan "was with her". he sings "lets make America great again' laughing- thinking I know the outcome. I see fox has declared WISCONSIN for trump. he won ohio and fla. I see their red/blue/orange map. Illinois is an island of blue. Illinois have never been an island- not when it voted repub, nor when it voted dem . I see trump has flipped Pennsylvania and is leading- I figure philly votes are in and western penn votes are being counted- I figure he has won penn. Michigan is close but he is leading. Arizona is close but he is leading. I do the math- Arizona and penn wins it for him- and I know he has won. it took fox 4 more hours to figure that out. cnn? they still hadn't declared Wisconsin and the "impartial" anchors were either in shock or trying to figure out a way that Hilary would win. ya gotta laugh. but Obama called trump and congratulated him- like bush did with him. they all must feel something once they win and that call comes from someone who knows what that next person is in for. and we move on. both Hilary and trump had cash bars in Manhattan- wine for 40 bucks. WINE OR WHINE is perfect for the dems

I'm surprised this board isn't more active after a historic upset in a presidential election. We never have, and most likely never will again, see a complete anti-establishment candidate win a presidency, and do so in come-from-behind fashion after every poll for the last year showed him losing.
I sincerely hope that Trump can get some things done, clean up some of the corruption, and bring the country together. Trump could go down in history as a great president. Or he could be a disaster -- we simply don't know. His life history shows that he was pretty good with real estate, and lousy with running casinos and some other businesses. Maybe being a political executive is his true calling. We can debate that one in 4 more years.
To Hillary, I say.... good riddance. Nice to see that smug, arrogant look wiped off your face, forever.
.
January 20th can't get here soon enough. We've got work to do.
