I think the most interesting guy from a medical standpoint this season is Matt Harvey. Thoracic outlet syndrome has been a career killer for most of the guys who've had it. The Mets say he looks strong after having a rib removed that was compressing a nerve. I would love to see him return to form, but I'm very reluctant to draft him.

Wayne, Welington Castillo just got non-tendered.

Boy, you could do a lot worse. That AZ front office is prone to strange decisions no matter who is in charge.

Tyson Ross non-tendered.

The Angels newest pitcher.

Oh I hope not...the Braves now have two pitchers who have had the surgery...Folty and Garcia.
Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Younger pitchers have recovered from it more successfully. I really enjoyed seeing the strides Folty made last year. I hope he takes another step forward this year.

McCann, Aoki, and now Beltran and the Astros still haven't inked their center fielder.
One thing these signings do is push Even Gattis farther down draft lists.
Unless traded, at best he is a platooned player.

"Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Yankees have agreed to a one-year, $13 million contract with Matt Holliday.

The veteran slugger, who will turn 37 next month, slashed .246/.322/.461 with 20 homers and 62 RBI in 426 plate appearances with the Cardinals in 2016 while missing time due to a fractured left thumb. He's expected to see the majority of his at-bats in the designated hitter role with the Bombers."

Mutts resign Cespedes, Yanks sign Holliday...'bout equal, wouldn't you say? Subway series here we come!

:D

Washington is definitely serious about landing Chris Sale. Lucas Giolito and Victor Robles plus a couple other prospects might be the most enticing deal anybody is going to offer.

Maybe it is just me, but Washington going so hard after Sale makes me think this is more about Strasburg and his health or lack thereof.

Kopech, Moncada, plus two more prospects. That's a heavy toll on a system that sent away blue chip prospect Anderson Espinoza amid San Diego's shenanigans last season. Still, it seems like a good gamble. Hopefully the Red Sox throwback jerseys aren't too itchy. ;)

Especially with Shaw departing as well. Although I already own a Pablo share, I'm not getting that excited until I see him attempt to bend over at the waist again.

From early November:

"Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday that Pablo Sandoval has made "tremendous strides in the dietary aspects of his life."
It had been reported previously that Sandoval had lost over 20 pounds while rehabbing from a torn labrum in his left shoulder. Of course, he's lost plenty of weight before, only to gain it back when his old habits kicked in. Sandoval will have to fight for a starting job in spring training, so perhaps he's finally motivated."

Next we will hear he is in the "best shape of his life...."

Ian Desmond to Colorado Rockies: 5 years, $70 million. Will play first base. Sure adds to that position once he qualifies.

I would have liked to have seen Edwin Encarnacion or even Chris Carter in Coors Field, but this is interesting. Desmond recovers some of the $100 million he turned down last year with the Nats.

Yeah...that is what I want...a first baseman in Coors that can hit 20 HR in a good year (i.e. average-ish power, poor contact rate) who made his bones last year on a 35% hit rate...oh, and lock him in for five years at $14M a year.

What could go wrong? While the iron is hot, maybe the Braves can trade them Bartolo and an order of cold fries for Arrenado.

Did not see this coming....

The same team that waited until Tulo was on the bleeding edge of his value before they traded him and then took back a bad guy with a bad contract.

nationals are starting to accumulate a pretty good list of 1) players that played for them that turned down big $ from them and left. 2) players that play for them now that are going to want so much $ from them that they have to get traded- like harper. 3) trades not made and free agents not signed. the LAA are wasting trout- but the nationals are wasting harper, scherzer, and strasburg.

Coors will boost Desmond's production. Hell, Bartolo could hit 5 dingers there. ;)
