Jose Peraza
I love me some Jose Peraza. Sure, a Judy, but one with a nice line-drive swing. I think the OBP from the second half of last year will be his new norm. Watched him a few times last year and it seems the light bulbs have finally come on. May have more speed than any of the new crop of MI.
But where will he play? Phillips keeps nixing trades. Be a shame to waste him platooning with Schebler.

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

Not sure what you mean, but I will protect to the death your right to confuse me!headhunters wrote:that may be the problem- the phillies are nixing trades and he is on the reds!

Brandon Phillips recently nixed a trade to the Braves...

senior moment- i saw phillies not philips! anyhoo- is there anyone not linked to the braves? john hart must be keeping that media job warm by giving the press little nuggets to print in this slow off season.
Re: Jose Peraza
His glove will play almost anywhere, so you might wind up with a Jose Oquendo who steals 50 bases.

Yes, just about every living player and a few dead ones (see Dickey and Colon) have been tied to the Braves. Saw one blurb where they are thinking of Kelly Johnson (for the third consecutive year) again which is good because the Braves can always flip him to the Mets (for the third consecutive year) for more of the Mets prospects.headhunters wrote:senior moment- i saw phillies not philips! anyhoo- is there anyone not linked to the braves? john hart must be keeping that media job warm by giving the press little nuggets to print in this slow off season.

Rodriguez hurt, now Braves trade for Phillips complete, Peraza a starter and moving up the draft boards.Edwards Kings wrote:I love me some Jose Peraza. Re: Jose Peraza
Jose Peraza's ADP before the Brandon Phillips trade was 136. In four NFBC drafts last night he went 113, 109, 97 and 84.
Peraza's value is going to rise with this latest move because everyone is looking for speed these days. I decided to look at Peraza's splits a little more last year and was surprised by a few things. First of all, his strong second half (.355-3-21-12) has to have convinced the Reds that he's ready for a full-time job. He hit over .300 against right-handers and left-handers this year and at just 22 has potential to be a good top of the order hitter.
In fact, while every other team chases the three-run homer, the Reds could be the 1980s version of the St. Louis Cardinals with Peraza and Billy Hamilton at the top of the lineup. Could both of these guys get on base enough to set the table for Joey Votto and Adam Duvall? Could they cause havoc with their speed while everyone else goes station to station? It could be interesting with those two speedsters back-to-back if they can hit enough to cause problems.
While Peraza hit well in the second half last year, something happened with his stolen bases. He was 9-for-9 in the first half and then just 12-of-22 after the All-Star break. What happened last year that he got caught stealing 10 times? That's pretty amazing. I missed that, that's for sure.
Anyway, I like the trade. If you got Peraza early feel lucky. He may not go outside the Top 100 going forward.

Nice...very nice. You have to love it when a gamble pays off.
It is going to be interesting to see where they hit Peraza. Some of the sites have him batting eighth, which means pitcher bunts him over (to second or third as the case may be), and Hamilton (if he continues to bat first) will be relied on to drive him in? Not necessarily ideal.
Top of the line-up maybe? Could kind of mitigate some of the speed. Hamilton gets on base, steals second. Peraza gets on base, can't move/steal until Hamilton steals third. Votto walks (

The crazy thing is we all saw him putting up multiple 60 steal seasons as a teenager in the minors, so it feels like we've been waiting a long time for a kid who is only 22.Edwards Kings wrote:Yah Mule wrote:I bought Peraza for $11 last week and $9 last month. He went for $16 last night.
