But with a small crew, I trust you guys will have time to sit around, drink a few brews and check out the draft boards. Unfortunately, thanks to the U.S. government we will not have our MVP Sportsbook.com girls in each city with the free T-shirts, free hats, free drink tickets, free calendars, etc. In fact, the offshore gambling sponsors are gone from all fantasy events these days with no return in sight. Our goodie bags will be slimmer this year and it will become a cash bar sooner this year, but we'll make it through this year and keep pushing for a more prominent sponsor in the near future.
Now, did the government solve the world's problems with this Anti-Internet gambling bill? I'm not so sure it did.

Garciaparra and Chipper Jones - real good when they play - do you trust either of them such that they'll be worth the risk for where they're going in most drafts?

Speaking of players sliding...has anyone looked into the first night's draft where Howard went 15th? Sounds like 10 owners are in ka-hutz with the person drafting last. (I say 10 because they all let Howard slide.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As for Pujols, I'd love to add one speed guy and another solid bat and then sit back and figure out how I'm going to get pitching with my next two picks. I'd probably grab Hanley Ramirez if he lasted that long and Miguel Tejada and love my infield. Or Aramis Ramirez and a Chone Figgins. I know I wouldn't dive into pitching or reach too far for any category hitter, so I'd definitely need speed/power there and worry about pitching later. Just me.
1. Obviously kahutz was a joke, but I'm sure it ticked off a couple owners who passed on Howard. Was just a surprise to see, but I'm sure there will be several still to come. (Not meant as insult to anyone or to NFBC - Greg and Tom, I know you guys run the best game out there. The integrity is reflected well in your actions.
2. Greg - I must be the only person that doesn't like H. Ramirez that early. I do agree with the need for speed and he could be great if he repeats his numbers, I just see a short slide.
3. What do you project for Manny Ramirez? Will his knee be a problem?
4. Greg, Tom doesn't seem to agree, but I think Ben Sheets will finish in top 3 Cy Young voting this year. What do you project for him?
5. Will ARod walk after this year?

This is the worst time for me as an event organizer. The last signups come in and I want them to come in perfectly in each city. If they don't, then I have tough decisions to make. I'm also working on another show I run before this and that's a tough one, too. I'm just a bear at home and last night I couldn't sleep so I'm channel surfing at 2:15 a.m. and checking my Blackberry every minute to see if any signups came in. I just hate this time, yet I'm still proud of the progress we've made.
I hate being Dr. Frankenstein right now and wish I were just one of you monsters!!

I've co-owned two main event teams with the 15th drafter who got Howard. Trust me, no cahoots there.
One of the other threads mentions how a drafter preprogrammed Wright in and didn't notice Howard and Utley were still available. Or got to the draft late or something. A little reminder to be ontime and watch very closely!

Greg, I took H. Ramirez 20th on Tuesday night knowing he wouldn't be there at 41{3rd rd 3-11), are we getting too caught up in ADP at the expense of team constuction?

More signups? Hopefully from Tampa or Chicago?
Two more for New York. Much of the calls yesterday were for New York and we always add more there the last two weeks. I sure wish Tampa would add a few more. We always start so fast there and then just don't keep it going in March. Very surprising.

Seriously, being at Ho Ho Kam during a fullhouse Cubs' game is as good as it gets. I like the Giants' stadium in Scottsdale too as it reminds of the time when Ken Griffey Jr. told me to screw myself for taking too many pictures of him when on was on the field in 1998. Tough to forget about those memories!!!
But all of the stadiums are cool in Arizona.
Don & Charlie's after Friday game.
Case of Coronas after that.

We have projected Rollins at .284-19-77 with 37 stolen bases. He hit .298-16-52 after the All-Star break and hit .290 and .289 the two previous seasons. His strikeout rates have fallen considerably since his 2001-03 days. I think he can easily hit .285 or higher this year.

We have Manny at .313-37-124-2. Yeah, he will miss games because of the knee and because he's Manny, but he should still put up solid numbers. The way he seems to be falling, he could be a great bargain on Draft Day.
I like Sheets, but like Tom I've seen him break down WAAAAYYY too often. We live in Wisconsin and we've seen Brewers' pitchers break down far too often to put any hope in a Top 3 Cy Young prediction. I'll stick with Tom on this one.
No way will A-Rod walk. He's a proud man and he will put up big numbers this year. He wants to retire as a Yankee great with 3-4 World Series rings to his credit. He wants to be loved by New York fans. Boras will leverage the out clause after a big season by getting a contract extension. Trust me, he will work this to A-Rod's advantage.

The key is to look at the board and see what you need at that point and what will be coming back to you. It doesn't help to pick two great sluggers if you then look at the board and realize steals are nowhere to be found. If you take a guy like Hanley eight spots ahead of ADP, so what as long as your team is being constructed in a way that you can win a league title. That's why I think it's so key to mock draft so that you can see what you finish with if you didn't go against the grain a few times.
