The 2017 MTM LIVE Ultimate Event...That's right. Ultimate!

Post by Baseball Furies » Mon Dec 12, 2016 12:03 am

Having been compelled to log onto to the NFBC message board forum tonight, only to find it to be about as entertaining and compelling as an NFBC message board forum, I decided that it was time for the big announcement: The 2017 MTM LIVE Super Event is moving to the Ultimate level of competition! Not that is wasn't great enough as it was already with me being a part of it every year, but money talks and bullshit is the NFBC not changing a thing this year for the 2017 fantasy baseball season, but I digress. So it is only fitting that the best NFBC live event there is, is now going to feature double the prize money as the highest stakes, season-long fantasy baseball competition east of Las Vegas in the greatest city in the world, New York, NY...except for anything with the word "Trump" on it which deserves to be pissed on. And a big F-U if you didn't like that last joke. It's still a relatively free country until January 20th, when the Russians take over the message boards and I'm mysteriously never heard from again. Although I'm sure the Commies from Wisconsin will still somehow have their jobs. :P

Image
"Oh, so now me and Mr. Toodles are Commies, you fucker, Massotto?! Just wait...just you wait. We shall have our revenge! You are no match for me and my cat army! And my revenge on you will be CAT-O-Strophic! Muuuhahahahaha!

Now where was I? Oh, yes, what a great a thing this is going to be this year.

News has already begun to leak out as the East Coast whales have already begun contacting me wanting in for a shot at the big money in their own backyard. The likes of Steve "Glue Factory" Juprinka, Scott "Mr. Mom" Fleming, and Glenn "Cool Jew" Lowry have already crawled out of hibernation to announce their intentions to compete again in the MTM after their absences from the competition as charter members for various totally bullshit reasons. And sorry Lowry. It's the best I could come up with on short notice. But trust me, it's a lot better than what we call you behind your back now. :P

So here's the deal:

There will be the usual first rate festivities that I have cooked up including the superior celebrity draft facilitation by Adam Ronis of the SiriusXM and the RotoExperts in the morning. There will again be the famous "Iron Balls" KDS draw right before the start of the draft when draft positions are decided live and on the spot just like they should be for all true pros of this game. And of course, there will also be a host of other personal touches and perks that I will be adding as usual to spice up the evening's festivities even more, as if they needed anymore spicing. But hey, that's just the kind of fun-loving, son-of-a-bitch that I am as Greg and Tom will attest to given how much joy and happiness I bring to their lives each baseball season. It's the gift that just keeps on giving. Not sure of any ex-porn star attendance yet, but who needs her there anyway? Right?

Image

Right?! Who's with me on this? ;)

And let's not forget that there will be the awarding of the prestigious MTM 2016 League Champion Trophy to our newly crowned champion, Mike Mager. Mike obliterated the field in his rookie season in the league by taking down the title by the largest margin of victory ever in the history of the league, a whopping 17 points! And it wasn't even that close. He will be back this year to defend his crown, even though there has yet to ever be a repeat champion in this league which tells you a lot about the elite level of competition in this league year in and year out.

And of course there's the after party at Rosie O'Grady's for some late night steak and beverages immediately following the draft which is open as always to all NFBC NYC competitors in town that weekend who would like to attend. The thread on this will be up as we get closer to the start of the season.

Below is a list of this year's competitors as it now stands with the waiting list of alternates to follow as I hear back from last years competitors. Should there be any openings, you will be notified by me or Greg directly. So if you want in again from last year, let me know ASAP if you're still interested in keeping your spot in this amazing competition of some of the best players and best guys in the NFBC.

1. Mike Massotto
2. Mike Edelman
3. Mike Mager
4. Jason Duponte
5. Scott Fleming
6. Steve Jupinka
7. Gaetan Lavoie
8. Dusty Wagner (confirmed and in!)
9. Dan Semsel (standby; may partner with Gaetan...why? I don't know.)
10.Glenn Lowy (standby)
11.Matt Modica (tentative)
12.Marc Perlmutter
13.John Lemke (tentative)
14.Joe Thelen
15.Larry Lensak

One FInal Note: Last year, SiriusXM did an amazing job covering this draft live, and had a lot of us on before and during the competition. Good times were had by all, and it made for some great radio. They should be back again this year as the media hoopla around this event is even more deserved than ever! :D

Great news Mike. Glad to see New York getting an Ultimate League. We'll be in contact with SiriusXM about this one and I'm sure they will have interest again in broadcasting this league. Getting high-stakes draft results a week before a lot of home leagues host their drafts is great content for the channel. And it's great publicity for the NFBC and our New York owners.

Okay, let us know where we can help and we'll step in. The New York Hilton is set to host our live events, so let's get this done.

Okay, the whales are making their intentions and their respective presences known. All except for Lavoie, aka "The French Guppie", but hey, we'll take his annual donation. :P  So I have updated the sign-up and standby list above. All we need now is Greg to convert this to an Ultimate on the contest sign-up page, and we'll be ready to go with registrations. For now, I believe you can just register if you're a returning owner under the Friday night the 24th Super at 8:00 p.m. in NYC for this event. Keep in mind that this event is invitation only. I'd love to accommodate everyone, but 15 spots are all there are, and they go to returning owners and alumni first and foremost...and of course to those who suck up to me with flattery, bribes, etc. Should know where this league stands in terms of owners by this weekend, so stay tuned. 8-)

We will change this to an Ultimate League on Registration, so give us a bit to add that now. Don't sign up for the Super at this point because we'll have to delete those signups anyway. Just wait until we have the New York Ultimate League on Registration and then we'll get everyone signed up. Thanks all.

Okay Greg thanks. And by the way, exactly how many days/weeks are there in a "bit" as far as IT getting this done?

Updated the list again. We should have a final committed number right around Christmas. Should be the best year ever for the MTM...or should I be now calling it, "THE ULTIMATE MTM"!? Has a nice ring to it.

First off if you are on the fence this is a fun time and Mike works very hard to make sure everyone has a good time.

I will pass on a donation this year. If I play I will be in Vegas.

Jeremy Wilck would like a spot and is on the standby list so if anyone from last year's group declines to return for the higher entry fee Jeremy is willing to dive on in and compete this year.

Marc Perlmutter, one of the charter members of the MTM League and its inaugural season champ, is in for the Ultimate, and officially off the tentative list. More updates on the league participants to come.

I just want to say that this is an awesome league, MTM does a great job of making it special, and I am very excited to return and attempt to defend my league title against some of the absolute best competitors in the NFBC. I already am really looking forward to seeing and drafting with folks in NYC this coming March. Mike, please also count me in for the post-draft festivities at Rosie O'Grady's whenever you start putting that list together. Wouldn't miss the steak, drinks and post-draft rehashing and ball-busting for anything.

Well it’s official. I have been graciously accepted into the MTM Ultimate, more so as a donation than beefing up the competition with this group of sharks. While some of these guys are winning their entry fees over in football, the peons of the group (I’m talking about myself, which Jupinka hates when I talk down about myself this way) are over here waiting for baseball to start. Since I don’t have Steve’s cheat codes going into this year, I have to start earlier than ever before in my preparation for this fun-filled event. But, since breaking away from the HOFer to go venture the sea full of sharks by myself again, I am no longer CENSORED and can blog again! That's right, I know everyone is so thrilled!

The one difference in my blog plans this year is rather than just talk about my one team the whole year, I’m going to blog about the goings-on of the league as a whole. Because this league is too good not to talk about it all! Not to mention all the brilliant minds in this group. My plan is to write about every team during this year in some way or another, that way it doesn’t get too boring when I’m in last place after the first month. I mean, this is the MTM Ultimate, I think Mikey… Wait I know Mikey will yell at me if there is anything boring in this. Maybe I can even be granted interviews from every participant before the draft so they can divulge useful information! One can dream though right? I know I’m not a SIRIUS XM platform, but maybe I can use my “inside sources” that the sports world loves to use! Anyways, to all the future MTM participants, I hope you have a Merry Christmas this weekend and a happy New Year and see you in New York!

And just because it is a prerequisite that I have this in any MTM post...

Merry Christmas all.
Looks like the MTM just got more expensive and more out of my reach for this year....

But this is my favorite thread on the message boards and it's good to have it back for 2017.

Competing and ultimately winning this league must be something like climbing Mt Everest. (Picture of the notorious 2nd Step shown here).

Okay, just in time for New Year's, here is the most updated list of MTM Ultimate competitors and the tentative/standby list. Glenn Lowy, now flush with cash from his football winnings, AGAIN , has returned to the fold to join us for season six since his one and only appearance in this league for its inaugural season five years ago. Somehow the rich just get richer. Interesting how certain let's say Long Island cultures have money seem to follow them in whatever they do. Shit, that may have had some bigoted undertones and subtle yet inappropriate religious stereotypes attached to it. Where is that raggedy bitch, Kellyanne Conway, when I need her? But I digress. More to come in the next few days, and I will make the effort to respond to everyone's posts with my usual mansuetude. There it is folks, your 50 cent word of the day. So fucking good that it faked out the spell-checker on this thing.

And Greg/Tom, if you're reading this, the live event sign up list isn't correct. You have Gaetan down twice. He's partnering with Semsel, and the owners list is now as posted here. Thanks.

1. Mike Massotto
2. Mike Edelman
3. Mike Mager
4. Jason Duponte
5. Scott Fleming

14.Larry Lensak
15.Andre Bourcier (tentative)
16. Eddie Gillis (tentative)
17. Dave Deterra (tentative)
18.Jeremy Wilck (standby)

Just a quick update for all the faithful. "Soda Pop" Deterra is back as one of the league's inaugural season members. Unfortunately, "ZZ Top" Gillis will not be joining us this year. He'll be on tour. :P Still waiting on figuring out the last couple before we lock and load for the new season prep. Ha! Funny thing there for a sec, I typed "lick" instead of "load" . Although nothing wrong with "lick and load" which could make for some interesting fun at the draft. So, in honor of my little almost faux pas, here's a little licking themed gallery for everyone's viewing pleasure.

Okay, I know. She isn't licking anything, especially any of the guys in this league, but she must have done some licking recently someplace, so I put her in. Creative license.

Image
Okay, this one isn't licking, but she is drinking which is close enough to licking, so she made the cut, too.

And of course, the obligatory banana pic had to be included somehow.

Quite frankly, I think this may actually defy some laws of physics. ;)

This last one was for Lindy! They got his good side for this pic. The crazy, shit that apparently goes on on pig farms, I'll tell ya...

Sorry it's been a while since an update, but below is the official official sign-up list for this amazing live event with a $40,000 grand prize up for grabs. John Lemke is the last returning owner from last season who we are waiting on the final word from. We should hopefully have this this week, but he is often difficult to track down as he spends a lot of time deep in the woods buying the bodies this time of year. Either that or he's just out there fishing, but either way this is time consuming and cell service does suck when you're engaged in either of these activities from what I have been told. We'll move to my list of alternates if John isn't taking his usual place in this league. Once we are at 15 owners locked in, I will begin posting the plans for the event festivities in NYC. Sure to be a blast as always!

As I told Mike last week, we did talk with SiriusXM officials about broadcasting the New York Ultimate League live again. They love this event and really want to do it, but they also are committed to broadcasting all of the Tout Wars auctions that weekend. They have a commitment to Tout, so we'll see what can be done there.

We do have a backup plan in place, so hang in there. This is fantastic content one week before most local leagues draft, so I think we'll get some air time for all of you. More details to come, but we're working on it and hope to have good news before we get to New York. Thanks all and damn this is going to be a good league.

Sounds great, Greg, but any word from the last couple of hold outs so that we can finalize the league owners list for this season? I believe that John Lemke is the last one we need confirmation on. If he's not in, we need to figure out who the replacement owner will be. Please let me know on this, and also as soon as you hear anything final on how the event will be covered. Thanks.

It's been a while, so here's the latest scoop or scoops in this case. First and foremost, we have the final official list of competitors for this exclusive NFBC event, and here it is:

1. Mike Massotto
2. Mike Edelman
3. Mike Mager
4. Jason Duponte
5. Scott Fleming
6. Steve Jupinka
7. Gaetan Lavoie & Dan Semsel
8. Dusty Wagner
9. Phil Bachner & Paul Stath
10.Glenn Lowy
11.Marc Perlmutter
12.Ante Meich
13.Joe Thelen
14.Larry Lensak
15.Dave Deterra

Probably one of the most stacked leagues we've had for the MTM since inception six years ago. Trust me, there are no soft spots in this one other than Fleming's mid-section. :P See what a little more cashola in the ole kitty does? Like peanut butter in a rat trap, they come scurrying back out of the woodwork for another crack at the title of this prestigious league. So much so, even Juprinka is growing whiskers. I'll be sharing some brief but blunt bios of each of the league's competitors in the coming days just so everyone gets to know these fantasy baseball celebrities a little more intimately. So stay tuned for these.

The other big news is that Greg nailed down Sirius XM to do another show complete with live coverage and analysis of the draft just like last year. Turns out that we got a little lucky with Tout Wars not starting until Saturday that same weekend in NYC, so they decided to feature a true experts league that means something as a lead in to those industry "expert" exhibitions Saturday and Sunday. The MTM Ultimate I'm told will be very helpful for their draft prep, so we're only all too willing to help them out, right boys? :P So everyone be down early for all the pre-draft festivities no later than 7:00 P.M. There's going to be lots to do with Sirius there including the ever popular crowning of the new champ from last year, Mike Mager, and the now famous live "Iron Balls" KDS draft spot position draw, and more. So as always, Greg will be getting his money's worth out of me. Back soon with more!

It's finally upon us! The ABSOLUTE BEST Live Event and drafting experience the NFBC has to offer (thanks to me of course  ), and now with $40,000 on the line going to this year's champion! 8-) This Friday night, March 24th, some of the best season-long fantasy baseball players and competitors in the world will be assembling for this drafting bloodbath! ADP? Fuck that. Sleepers?! You're fucking kidding me, right? Surprise strategies? Don't even bother with that shit. Nothing gets by these guys, and they are out to prove once again who the best of the best is...or in this case, second best to me which is still pretty damn good! :P

This being said, I was waiting for the competitors to all get me their head shots so that I could do a little write-up on each of them so that everyone on here who is interested could get to know each of these unique personalities up close and personal since most of you will not be there to witness this amazing event in person. I just received the last one I was waiting on today, so here are my "Brief But Blunt Bios" on the 2017 NFBC MTM Ultimate competitors. Now everyone will be able to better follow along at home during the Sirius XM broadcast coverage of the event.

Image

Glenn Lowy: Fierce competitor who has made all of his money winning at fantasy football rather than baseball as he likes to pretend. Faked his first Bar Mitzvah so he could have a second one for the extra cash. Formerly known by the nickname, "Jewish Lightning", before that name became associated with his "prowess" in the bedroom rather than the draft room. He told me that tragically right after this picture was taken, he immolated all his pubes, but thankfully made a full recovery. However, the photographer was scarred for life.

Image

Dave Deterra: The self-proclaimed "World's Foremost Authority on Fantasy Baseball" as well most types of generic orange soda, drafting next to him can be likened to a line from Forrest Gump, because "you never know what you're gonna get." An eccentric recluse and retired plumber in the off-season, he spends his down time sniffing drain opener and serial snaking his neighbors pipes.

Image

Steve Jupinka: One of the top 10 money winners in NFBC history, and not a penny to show for it as his wife co-opted both his winnings and his testicles years ago. Claims he would be higher in the life-time standings if there weren't so many "damn cheaters" ahead of him. Has never come close to winning anything in the MTM Ultimate or much of anything else in recent years, but is still firmly entrenched as a legend in his own mind.

Image

Scott Fleming: Specifically asked him not to send me one of his old cop head shots, but he refused. Long-time friend of mine via the NFBC, who's been living on borrowed time since the day I met him. Suffers from more chronic and acute health maladies than most people living in Ghana. Discovered after the fact that he drafted the entire 2015 MTM event suffering from a mild strain of bubonic plague. In general, hates his life, closers, and me for some reason despite all I do for him.

Image

Mike Mager: Last year's returning champion. After winning the money, finally got laid with his wife's blessing. What he lacks in overall coolness, he more than makes up for with his snappy wardrobe choices. Believes "niceness" to be his best trait, followed by his passion for truth, justice, and the American way.

Image

Mike Edelman: Been using computers for fantasy baseball since before they were invented. Often surfs porn sites and plays a little World of Warcraft during live drafts just to break up the monotony. Holds most of his fellow competitors in disdain, but will still condescend to draft with them at the right price point. Never met a mouse he didn't like...for his anus.

Image

Joe Thelen: Sent me this photo of him at the 2014 MTM event. Incredibly won the title that year despite this being his regular posture during the draft. Often fakes out the competition by feigning either a heart attack, Alzheimer's, or drunkenness, all of which he utilizes interchangeably. An extremely secretive and private person, he will often call ahead to make sure that he won't be caught on camera with the likes of Lisa Anne for fear of his wife beating the shit out of him.

Image

Gaetan Lavoie: Affectionately known as "Frenchy" for his French Canadian heritage, and now you know why. Employs various bad drafting strategies each year usually beginning with either eight straight pitchers or eight straight hitters, which is about as "straight" as you'll get with him...not that there is anything wrong with that. Still won't give up his Blackberry or his insanely overbearing job which forces him to use it...and us to endure him during DC's. As a result, he is often forced to make picks as relayed via the Canadian consulate. Favorite indulgence when he visits New York City: Temperatures in the 40's.

Image

Jason Duponte: Touts himself as not only a great fantasy player, but quite the ladies man as well. Voted "New England's Lady Killer" of the Year nine times running in unofficial social media polls conducted by himself on Twitter, Snap Chat, and Grindr. Has a huge man crush on Mookie Betts, and proclaimed everywhere last year that Betts was the best player in baseball since Ted Williams. Stalked Betts so much during the 2016 season on line and otherwise, he now has an ankle bracelet and a temporary restraining order to prove it. Fun fact: Second worst Boston accent in the NFBC.

Image

Dusty Wagner: Actually begged me to be in this competition this year which he is immediately regretting as of this post. Son of a Texas oil mogul, pissing away his trust fund money and into other people's shrubs are now the unfortunate consequences of his silver spoon upbringing which he has taken for granted much like most of America in assuming that a fucking jackass moron couldn't be elected President of the United States. Beer is now his universal solution to life's problems. Uses just about anything Justin Bieber as whacking material to whip his skippy which is often the highlight of his mundane existence deep in the heart of redneck America.

Image

Marc Perlmutter: Ivy League educated, and any more cerebral, he'd need a larger skull. Uses fantasy baseball not as an outlet, but as an inlet for infusing himself with a good dose of stupidity to balance out his chakras. Once drafted an entire team using the Periodic Table as his cheat sheets. The inaugural season winner of the MTM Event, the joke was on all of us who mocked his pocket protector and matching sweater vest.

Image

Larry Lensak: Automatic league donation year in and year out. Huge Devils fan who once took a puck to the mouth in the parking lot of a Dairy Queen. Main strategy in preparing for this competition each year: Lots and lots of weed. Disappears into hiding immediately after the draft to resume his career as a Russian hacker. Unfortunately for him, he has yet to get his hands on Glenn Schroter's code book.

Image

Phil Bachner: Originally thought to be a serial killer, we were all relieved when we found out that he was only a porn addict. Has a true passion for fantasy baseball, but hampered at live competitions due to his aversion to anything related to dental care or hygiene. Every year tries save his FAAB money to have some left over for his Christmas shopping. Favorite in-season internet websites include Rotowire, Rotoworld, and Rotowhore.

Image

Dan Semsel: Career military man who recently received an honorable discharge (aka forced retirement) when he began insisting that his men refer to him as "Captain Crunch" in the gym even though he held the rank of Colonel. This followed on the heels of his demands of being called everything from "General Admission" to "Sir Mix-a-Lot". Now a civilian, he spends his days running hundreds of senseless and unnecessary miles after 25 years of doing the same in the military while at least getting paid for it. This being his first year in the MTM, he decided to do the smart thing and pair up with someone. Unfortunately for him, he chose to do so with the fantasy baseball equivalent of Inspector Clouseau.

Image

Ante Meich: Martial arts fanatic who trains like he's about to be jumped by five ninjas at any moment. So intense he once broke both his wrists while fluffing his pillow. Unnerving primal screams to release his ki,and spinning round house kicks on draft facilitators who rush him while he's on the clock are his signature moves. So hardcore, he once did the first several rounds of the 2014 MTM event while finishing up an auction in another room.

Image

Paul Stath: Given the nickname "SBD" (anonymously by someone) which as most people know means "Silent But Deadly," and coincidentally is not only in reference to his drafting style, but also to his lethal flatulence particularly in public places. Case in point, he once crop-dusted an entire banquet hall and slipped away undetected. An evil genius when it comes to scoring with the chicks, he's known for his brilliant pick up lines, such as "Damn girl, are you my appendix? Because I don't understand how you work, but this feeling you're giving me in my stomach makes me want to take you out." Classic.

Image

Todd Zola: Oops! Forgot. He's not in this league.

Hope everyone enjoyed getting to know all the interesting competitors participating in this year's MTM Ultimate. Be sure to follow along with Sirius XM's coverage this Friday night beginning with the pre-draft coverage at 7:00 p.m. EST live from NYC! This is how you do it! Can't wait. 8-) 8-) 8-)

You left out one of the competitors in your profiles Bud. I'll see what I can do to help out.

Image
Mike Massotto: Better known through the multiple aliases he's more than earned over the years, The Mouth, MtM, Dead Money, Guppy, Donator, Why's He Bother, etc., there's something to be said about the blind determination despite all sane odds Mikey shows year after year just by showing up for his annual beat down. In this photo, Mikey's alibi for his poor NFBC showing last year when he found out moments before the MtM kickoff that his "vitamins" do come with side effects.

Good stuff Mikey and catch you in a few more days my friend. ;)
