Signup Lists Will Be Changing Today

Post by Greg Ambrosius » Tue Mar 21, 2017 8:18 am

You may have noticed that we changed the NFBC Cutline Championship thread yesterday to include the Contest Grid page and all of the future signups. This same format will be coming soon for all of the other national contests and the Satellite Leagues.

Why are we doing this? Because some of the state laws require full transparency of the players in each league. This is obviously something we've done from Day 1 in the NFBC as we've always listed every single signup for every single contest. We will continue to do that and now they will be on a signup list like you see on the Cutline thread.

We also are required to put an icon next to owners who have won $1,000 or more playing in the NFBC. All contests have to do this according to some state laws so that new members know what kind of league they are getting into. We have used our payouts over the last two years to determine these Experienced Player badges, so if you see one of these by your name that's how we included you.

I'm not sure that the states realize that a lot of our players have won $1,000 in prizes over the last two years, but we'll do all we can to be in compliance with New York and other states. This is a small requirement and again we already we're posting all of our signups online. Now every season-long game operator will have to do the same thing.

Hope this makes sense. New regulations that we're complying with. Good luck all and enjoy.

Does this mean that players will no longer be able to use "Alias's" or just out and out false names?

It took you 14 minutes to come up with that post?

Ok then, I assume you didn't care for the question. I don't understand why as many from this game have not liked the practice of fake names at all. Please fell free to delete my question and subsequent responses.

As you can see the signup lists are a bit tougher to ready now, but at least we are in compliance with certain states.

The unfortunate thing about this new setup is we are being asked to list by product rather than by date. So in the Satellite League signup thread we have all of the $125 Satellite Leagues listed, then all of the $150s, the $250s, the $500s and the $1,000s. Now to find the next available draft tonight you have to scroll through all of those, which isn't ideal from a standpoint of selling out the day's online drafts.

It's not good for us and it's not good for the participants. But at least we are in compliance with the states.

The best way to keep track of tonight's openings is on the Countdown page here:

http://nfbc.stats.com/baseball/contest/ ... ntdown.asp

In the future we'll discuss with the states if this is best for everyone. We'll also create a landing page that has just tonight's drafts or at least an easy way to find today's full slate of drafts.

thanks all for your patience. It's a new world in our industry and changes are inevitable.

I think the question about aliases is a legitimate question. In the DC I just finished 2 of the Owner names on the owners list page are "Dude Abides" and "Bleed Green." These are the owners' names listed, not the team nickname. It would be nice to look on that page in each of my leagues and see at a glance the real names of all of the competitors in that league.

That's something we can look at when we move off STATS. The STATS lawyer insisted we give people the option of putting in a display name in addition to their real name. We'll have that discussion whether that options is necessary when we move completely to our new site.

So if we don't have a green trophy icon, we're guppies? Cool!

I think you're missing a few icons...

Yup, that's very possible. This won't be exact by any means.

Need a new icon for me. I may be "Experienced", but in reality I "Just Suck".

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

I think everyone should get an icon next to their name so no one feels excluded.

Perhaps these would do. The blue one for the Lindy/Juprinka types. Orange for someone newer or less successful.

Or if you don't want to just stick with the sea creature theme for both icons and/or really want the fact that a player is weaker to stand out, we can just go with the obvious....

I hope everyone knows that this is an inexact process right now. The states required us to show anyone who has won over $1,000 to show Experienced Players. This shows how little the states have really looked at our games because that doesn't make anyone special here with the entry fees that we have. I mean if they took the time to ask us what was best we'd say someone who won a Main Event league title last year or more than $7,000 in any single year. But we're doing exactly what the government said and we MUST do it to be in compliance.

It doesn't help our signup lists sell out the next available leagues, it doesn't make that list look pretty and there's no guarantees that our competitors will do the same thing. We have to invest in GEO locators now and figure out how to automate these signup lists going forward. We have two people dealing with the states outside of me and Tom and using a law firm on all of this. It's become a fulltime job to make sure we are doing what the states want.

Unfortunately, the states are dealing with us as if we're a DFS company. But again, no complaints if it keeps everyone safe, sound and guaranteed of prize money. Hopefully in time we can work with the states to make this list more effective for the players because that's really what it's for.

Good luck all. Icons for everyone, like trophies for soccer kids, is a great idea.

Just to be clear Darren, aliases are when someone signs up under a fake name. In your case, all 15 owners in your league were listed on the Message Boards under their signup names not aliases. We didn't list Bleed Green as one of the teams on the signup thread in your league. That owner signed up as himself.

What you are seeing is their Display Names that go in the overall standings for all to see. We wish everyone would use their names there, but the reason we put it in more than 10 years ago was because some folks said they didn't want their wives to see them in these standings, or their bosses, or for whatever reason. We created the Display Name on your signup page for that reason. Some owners have gone beyond that and put names like Bleed Green in there.

But again, this is different from aliases, which were used by a handful of owners years ago.

Yep I know I can dig back through the MB posts to find all the owners. That's why I worded my post the way I did. Just looking for a quicker way to see all the owners names in each of my leagues. Here's a suggestion. Add 1 more column to the Owners List page in each league. "Owner Name" "Display Name" and "Team Name". Then everybody gets what they want.
