Unsigned Veteran Free Agents
Unsigned Veteran Free Agents
.
Why isn't unsigned veteran Angel Pagan considered a free agent in NFBC?
More examples:
Ryan Raburn
Tim Lincecum
Basically non-relevant right now but what happens when/if they sign with a team? Will we see a panic when no one can bid on them?

Same with David Ortiz. Same with Coco Crisp.
Obviously, they are not on a Major League roster.
When signed and enter a game they will be eligible.

First line under free agents in the actual rules,,,,
'Any player who is not on a team roster within your league and is on a major league roster or once was on an NFBC team in your league is considered a free agent for that league.'

The section I quoted from the actual rules comes after the one you cited. When I had a ME team in previous years and was searching for FAAB adds I noticed several unsigned vets were available to bid on but not this year.DOUGHBOYS wrote:First line under free agents in the actual rules,,,,

Once a minor-leaguer plays his first game in the majors, he remains in every NFBC FAAB pool whether he returns to the minors or not. Once in the majors, he remains in all FAAB pools. Hahaha. Free agent auction bidding isn't an auction. Can't anyone be bid on in the main auction?DOUGHBOYS wrote:That means they can be bid on in AUCTIONS.

I was willing to be cordial and drop it but please explain the expression "picked up" in the rule we are debating. Can a player be picked up in the auction you are telling us is only on draft day? Hmmm?DOUGHBOYS wrote: Draft Day is Auction bidding! Not free agent bidding.

It means picked up or drafted in a snake draft or bid on in an auction.

Yes, UNSIGNED at the time of draft day. It's a rule related to Free Agency not drafting players on draft day.DOUGHBOYS wrote: It's DRAFT DAY fer crissakes!

You're really missing the point just because you want to fight.
Hahaha. You're trying to goof on me now I can tell. ALL players can be bid on or taken in the snake draft on Draft Day. There doesn't need to be a special section in the rules to give you permission.
Pretty funny Dan.
What I was able to find on this issue came up from last season in this post:
http://nfbcforums.stats.com/viewtopic.p ... id#p191414
where Greg explains the players with MLB experience need to be on the roster but not yet have played a game as opposed to minor leaguers who do have to appear in a game once they've been called up.

Re: Unsigned Veteran Free Agents
There was at least one gigantic jackass involved in this entire idiotic thread, and I'll give everyone a hint: It wasn't Dan Kenyon...as gigantic as he is in his own right.

All I know is the last time I played in a FAAB league you could bid on a guy who had years of MLB experience but wasn't signed by a team. Now you can't.Baseball Furies wrote:There was at least one gigantic jackass involved in this entire idiotic thread, and I'll give everyone a hint: It wasn't Dan Kenyon...as gigantic as he is in his own right.![]()
The rule Doughy cited comes from the FREE AGENCY section so what's the point of arguing it means these players can be picked up or bid on during the draft?

Re: Unsigned Veteran Free Agents
Not true; it depends on the situation. If a player is bid/drafted but is subsequently released (by both the MLB team and your league's owner) he's eligible as a free agent. You can't FAAB David Ortiz this year assuming nobody took him in your auction/draft. You can only FAAB him once he plays in a game.Deadheadz wrote:All I know is the last time I played in a FAAB league you could bid on a guy who had years of MLB experience but wasn't signed by a team. Re: Unsigned Veteran Free Agents
I'll give this one last shot...
1. Deadheadz, I can't change your memory.
If that is what you remember, so be it.
We have only been able to bid on players who are on a MLB roster. Always.
2. In the past, there has been confusion on when a minor league player was rostered by a MLB team (before the Sunday deadline or not), however this has had nothing to do with the rule itself.
3. If free agents WERE allowed to be bid on, our FAAB choices would be clogged by players such as AJ Pierzynski, Ryan Dempster, ARod, and other players who are also free agents till they retire.
Thankfully, this does not happen.
4. The free agent rules differentiate between drafting and free agency.
When drafting or bidding in an auction, we can select minor leaguers or free agents yet signed.
When FAAB begins, these players are no longer available unless a drafter in our league drafted and dropped him.
That's the best I can do to clarify. If doubting the veracity of my comments, please e-mail Greg or Tom.
I will no longer respond in this thread.

CRISIS AVERTED!!!!Deadheadz wrote:.

Will we see a panic when no one can bid on them?

Free agent outfielder Angel Pagan told Yamaira Muñiz Pérez of El Vocero that he will not play baseball in 2017.
Pagan received a number of major league offers after performing well for Team Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic, but none lucrative enough to lure him away from his wife and kids back home. The 35-year-old outfielder (36 in July) batted .277/.331/.418 with 12 home runs and 15 stolen bases in 129 games last season for the Giants. "I'm now dedicating myself to my family," Pagan told the Puerto Rico-based publication. "Giving the time my family deserves. At the end of the day, the decision to stay this year was not mine. The decision was for my whole family." Pagan plans to go into real estate and motivational speaking. He hasn't decided about a possible comeback in 2018.
