You might be spending too much time in the fox pen, Wayne ...

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

thanks for the write up dan. you and mr. bronx hit nail on head. we won't ever know the answer to this- but last year sale did dial it down and pitch to contact. he also threw fewer sliders. sale does not shake off the catcher much. buerle never did and he taught sale to "get it and throw it". Probably good jeter is gone because unlike buerle -who compromised with jeter (letting him step out of the box for 20 seconds instead of 40) sale did not. if they faced each other 25 times instead of 5-10 it might have gotten ugly. i digress. Did the white sox tell their catchers to dial the sliders down? did sale agree to pitch to contact? i believe it is yes and yes. This year boston has decided to have him throw 30-35% sliders. that is his wipe out pitch. the white sox have been good with preserving their players. the red sox have done well also- but i think i would keep an eye on sales slider usage. also- the write ups on bostons lineup preseason were kinda dumb. who- in that lineup- do pitchers fear? they have some real good hitters- but not a guy that can hit for huge power. their "hit sequencing" and "strand rate" will be crucial this year because they lack thump.
