Thoughts of my squad?

Post by pancho11 » Fri Mar 02, 2007 3:34 am

bobby - interesting -- I got myself projected in the .287 range which would be pretty high -- i come up short in the R cat tho with only about 1080

K's im somewhat short i agree -- I do however think pitching can be found in season while offense is real hard to find

Hope we have a good tight season

good luck

DiamondKing - Berkman Sizemore & Abrue (maybe the steal of the draft at #42)

Emory – Nice early balance of Speed/Power: Crawford, Manny & Konerko

Bobby J – Wright & Hafner (Which lowers the value of that nice bench)

Pancho – Like the three Mets SP end game, but think the eight hitters listed above are all better then Wells, not enough 1-4 hitters to compete in runs and when you use your first half dozen picks on offense you should be better in offense. (C+)

Emory – The Pods, Issy and Big Hurt combo might be two too many injury risks. Nice tradition building style (B)

Bobby J – Have to overlook the DH – as this isn’t a main event team, where that bench production in DH spot can lift you. IMO, MI is better then others think – Bartlett, Crosby & Howie can all run and should combine for solid numbers. I would go to war with this team – (B+)

DiamondKing – Harden & Myers are two of my favorites. Love Delmon & Guillen, but a second tier closer at that place in the draft., would have moved my ranking another a +/- from the B. Too many FAA$ out there for too few replacement closers. Starts are the easiest FAA & starts = wins (managed properly just under .5 per start) & K’s (even Wang gets a k/start)

Since I am the lowest lifetime ranked player these Grades mean nothing, Good luck to you all and thanks for sharing. It is nice to look at real drafts again. Bruce you beat three teams: I only beat one. (2005 299th out of 300).  Maybe we should form a league of losers – then one of our number can move to the League of Champions.
Main C3-pick#12 Crawford/Upton/Mags/Guillen/Chipper/Zimmerman/Del Young

Thanks for the input. I couldn't pass on Thomas that late---he was I think the best bet for HR & RBI at that point, even with his injury risk. He's not playing in ST games for another week or two, so maybe his legs will be fresh come April. Similarly, Pods was hard to pass on in that round. If healthy, he could put me into 1st in SB's easily. I had to take Izzy as other closers were gone and I hedged my bet somewhat with Wheeler and Linebrink, who should each contribute a few saves, maybe more if Lidge/Hoffman go down. I think AVG for me is a problem but that is hard to project. SP picks are OK but I think my WHIP will be bad. Any other ideas?

Bobby:

I share your aim of getting a bunch of 15-25 SB guys rather than getting a 1-cat legs guy. I hope it works for you.

If Upton hits, he'll have lots of opportunity to remain a starter, get on base, and run. You may find yourself sitting Blaylock in favor of him if Hanks power doesn't show up.

Have at it!! wow. you could have a great lineup or you could have crap. you took a ton of young players so you could be great or more likely average as some of your risks pay off while others flop (think hermedia last year). also your closers are very high risk

This team was chosen in the Feb. 20th $250 Satellite with the 11th pick. There is ALOT of risk, but a ton of upside. The BA is questionable, but the baseline of the counting stats on the hitting side (HR,R,RBI,SB) should be quite alright. The pitching was formed with the intent of having a base to work from in WHIP and K's without punting Saves. Still working on the Closer strategy as I am decidedly unhappy with Lidge and McClung. So, much like everyone after a draft, I have some "massaging" to do on this roster. I know what this team COULD do, I just have no idea what they WILL do.
