Cox & Culver Win NFBC Auction Championship/$25,000

Congratulations to the tag team of Jeffrey Cox and Bill Culver of Saline, Michigan as they turned their debut entrance into the NFBC into the $25,000 grand prize in the NFBC Auction Championship. Jeffrey and Bill entered the Chicago Auction League for the first time on the Second Weekend and won that league title with 127 points and won the overall title with 1,514.5 points. With a record 180 teams in the Auction Championship, they finished with 84.14 percent of the available points.

This was a great fight to the finish as they edge Les Travis by 49.5 points for the overall title. Les won $7,500 for his runnerup finish. Also finishing in the money in the overall title was Michael Stevens/Mike Rothe in 3rd place ($5,000), John Donadio ($3,750) and Patrick & Ross Longood ($2,750).

Jeffrey and Bill entered this auction for the first time and competed against a very seasoned group of owners. This Chicago auction has almost turned into a local league as so many of the same guys compete in this one each year. There was room for a new entrant and these guys made it count. They started off by bidding $43 for Clayton Kershaw and then adding Paul Goldschmidt for $41. They added George Springer for $26 and continued to pound pitching, getting Carlos Carrasco for $17, Zach Greinke for $11, Marcus Stroman for $15 and Roberto Osuna for $17.

The real bargains came later in the form of Aaron Judge for $1, Robbie Ray for $3, Travis Shaw in the Reserve Round and Avisail Garcia in the final round of the Reserve Round. That will do it.
