Joe Thelen Wins New York MTM Ultimate & $40,000

We ran our first NFBC New York MTM Invitational Ultimate League this year and it was a great, great contest. The draft aired on SiriusXM Fantasy Sports Radio and now the results can be told. Joe Thelen beat 14 other teams for the $40,000 league prize as he finished with 111 points. Dustin Wagner finished second with 103 points to earn $20,000 and Jason Duponte finished third with 98 points to earn $7,500.

Like so many other champions this year, Joe drafted from the middle of the pack. From the No. 7 spot, he started with Paul Goldschmidt, Trevor Story and Dee Gordon. He found bargains in Round 8 with Rich Hill, in Round 10 with Elvis Andrus and in Round 12 with Michael Pineda. He worked the FAAB wire feverishly and started with Jimmy Nelson for $3 in Week 1, Whit Merrifield for $68 on May 30th, along with several smaller pickups. It was enough to lead Joe to the top of the standings in the second half and to hold onto the lead over the last two months of the season.
