Baseball Trivia
Baseball Trivia
I love baseball trivia questions. It's almost as enjoyable slapping myself in the head for forgetting a player as answering the question.
Here is the best question I have heard in a long time....
Name the six Hall of Famers who played exclusively during their careers for expansion teams....
Here are the answers in minute form in case you want to cover them up and wrestle with the answers below.
I must admit that number six surprised me....
Bagwell, Biggio, Gwynn, Yount, Brett, Nolan Ryan

Re: Baseball Trivia
probably too easy for this crowd but just for fun, who was he: he was a major leaguer in baseball, basketball and acting.
..... and continuing the old timer theme, he pitched for the Giants, Reds, Astros and Pirates and was an all-American basketball player

That's a really great question, got the first 5...I never would have gotten #6
Re: Baseball Trivia
Another wonderful trivia question presented to me this weekend...
I got the answer right....after 7 guesses!
Here is the question and please don't google or look it up first...What fun is that?
What player holds the all time record for home runs in one park and which park is it?
The answer is not Babe Ruth. He doesn't even hold the record for the house that he built.
Mickey Mantle slugged 266 homers at Yankee Stadium.
By the way, Mark Teixeira holds the record at 'new' Yankee Stadium with 113.
Aaron Juge should be targeting that record in a few years.
Of course, most home runs hit at any defunct baseball stadium are unbreakable records

Re: Baseball Trivia
If it's who I think it is (haven't verified), deduced from some logical process of elimination like
- likely won't be obvious, like Ted Williams or Mantle
- played their whole career on the same team, without opening a new park (eliminates guys like Griffey, Robinson, Bonds, Aaron)
- would help from a home park with a chance to boost homers
I think someone ought to get it.

Re: Baseball Trivia
That is the correct way of looking at it, Todd.
I had two private answers. Both were wrong.
Todd Helton did hit the most at Coors, but was not the answer.
Willie Mays did not hit the most home runs in Candlestick.
Candlestick had a usual 20 mph wind blowing from left to right, robbing Mays of many home runs.
Willie McCovey had the most home runs at Candlestick Park.

I was worried it may have been McCovey.
My favorite trivia question isn't so much for the question itself, but for the off-the-wall guesses when they don't know right away.
What pitcher in MLB history has the most wins without ever having won the Cy Young award?

Baseball is a slow, boring, complex, cerebral game that doesn't lend itself to histrionics. You 'take in' a baseball game, something odd to say about a football or basketball game, with the clock running and the bodies flying.

323 home runs at the Polo Grounds in New York.
A ball park that was even more conducive for homers than Yankee Stadium.
Ott is also part of another favorite trivia question....
Name the five members of the 500 homer club that spent their entire careers with one team.
The answer is here....
Mike Schmidt, Mickey Mantle, Ernie Banks, Ted Williams, and, of course, Mel Ott

Re: Baseball Trivia
If you pulled the ball. The alleys were like a softball field with no fence. The dimensions remind of the place we played as a kid. Hit the ball into the woods and you were out. It was an easy shot and we didn't want to keep losing balls.DOUGHBOYS wrote:

Re: Baseball Trivia
This one is easy with a little thought....
Only one man, since the live ball era started in 1920, has had 500 hits vs. another team.
What makes this incredible is that this man had 500 hits vs. SIX teams.
Who was this hitter?
The answer is here.....
Stan Musial.
Musial played his career in an eight team league. His 3630 hits were spread evenly among most teams.
In fact, the only National League team in which he did not get 500 hits was the Chicago Cubs (492)
