Why Tues or later for order?

Post by ESPN6J » Mon Mar 05, 2007 6:51 am

I think next year the goal should be to have everyone aware of what position they are drafting in 7-10 days before the draft date.

Finding out Tuesday night or Wednesday only really gives you 2 1/2 days to prepare while knowing your draft spot and most of those days are spent in work for the majority of the people.

Hey folks, the deadline to have your KDS settings finalized for the Main Event will be Noon ET on Tuesday, March 6th. That doesn't mean we'll pick the draft orders that day but we want everyone to have their settings done by then in case we're able to close everything out by the middle of the week and then announce the leagues by the end of the week.

So it looks like we'll know by friday ? which would give us 8 days to prep

We announce our draft order no later than the Monday before the event. So you get a full five days at the very least to prepare for your draft. It's possible - and we're hoping - that we'll pick the draft orders this week and give people even more time. But at the very least you'll have five full days to prepare. We like to believe that's enough time for everyone to get that last-minute cramming in.

Or, for those of us who prepare early, it really doesn't matter much, cause the plan goes into effect depending on what position I get. Different plan for different positions. All worked out in advance dating back to November with some alterations as necesary. Finding our which one I will need is only satisfying curiousity. If I waited till I found out where I would draft to plan, I'd be ahhh worried. Just a suggestion if you want to win. You WILL be playing against those that have been working on this for months.

I can't believe everyone needs to know this so far ahead of time. I understand WANTING to know, I too am curious, but to need to know doesn't make sense to me. Seriously, if you can't pick from any position with notification at draft time, should you be putting $1250 at risk?

Personally, I wish we did an open FAAB auction to start each league, that to me is the most fair way to run this great event

Spy Spy - You got a deal if you only paid $1250. Most of us paid $1300; and for that extra $50 we want to know our positions 2 days ahead of you finding our yours.... :D

Heck tell me the day of the draft! Anytime earlier is just gravy.

The draft order doesn't make anyones team win, the owner of the team does that.

In my opinion with the # of sharks and pros involved with the NFBC/NFFC you better be extremely prepared or you are just making an expensive donation (that's not tax deductible by the way).

CAN'T WAIT FOR THE DRAFT!!!

[/QUOTE]oops, I guess I mean $1300 But I would gladly trade $50 for less notification of my draft pick!

Actually, that is an interesting idea! Why not have people PAY CASH $$$ for draft positions!!!!!!! We could have blind bidding with $$ instead of FAAB, this would make everyone happy. What does everyone else think?

Spy If you guys don't even take time to consider what spot you're drafting in, then perhaps you are the ones to rethink spending your money. It's not about waiting to prepare and I can do the extra little bit of planning if we get the spots on Monday easily, but I am going to at least look at it and think about the draft based on where I'm drafting. Can I draft from any position now? Yes. Am I going to be better from a specific spot if I spend the week before the draft thinking only about that spot? Yes, also. Arrogance can hurt you when you start thinking you don't need any extra prep.

Knowing your draft slot only helps you plan the first three rounds, five rounds at the most. Too many draft variations to plan for beyond 5 rounds. I've had many of my draft plans change instantly after my first three picks..

In the end, someone will need a little luck to go with all their prepration to win the championship.

The Good News is we will have it this weekend. I messed up and thought the 6th was the Tuesday before the event.

Obviously anyone who is prepared can draft from any spot but knowing where you are gives you time to try to predict who you can get at what spots.

I'm glad you guys resolved this amongst yourselves without us stepping in! :D Have no fear, I trust everyone will see their draft picks by the weekend at the latest, likely sooner if all goes well.

My point is, except for the VERY first pick, everyone else has to be prepared to pick and adjust. I think everyone should know the top 5 rounds like the back of their hand. You can estimate who might fall to you, and estimate who you might take, but it all may mean nothing because someone else falls. I would be shocked if most people in this draft can't estimate within about 5 minutes of thought who will be where in the first 3 rounds

Everyone should be prepped and flexible on draft day.

Spy Spy, just because you have an idea of where players will be in the first five rounds doesn't mean, you are ready to draft--or at least shouldn't. People decide between those players who will have the most value toward the team they are planning to build and compare them against other players they are going after later. For example, if you have an end of third round pick and see Oswalt as the most valuable player, I don't think it is automatic that you take him. You weigh it against whether you already took Santana and when you want to take your other pitchers and whether you think hitters are more difficult to get value out of. Even though your draft position does not heavily impact you past round 5 (which is up for debate anyway--especially when you consider the ends), your decisions in the first 5 rounds should impact all your other decisions.

Some people plan for that. Some people research their draft mates. Some people need time to alter their plan from a particular draft spot depending on spring training information. Because you are ready to fold up your show and go to the draft right now does not reflect poorly on others.

Spy - There are a number of first time players in this event who may never have done a 15 round draft before. This is their first exposure to the NFBC and I'm going to guess that getting draft positions and assigned to leagues will be very exciting to them. Nothing beats the enjoyment of seeing your name and draft position announced on the boards.

If you feel as strongly as you do that you are prepared for anything, simply avoid the temptation to look until the morning of the 17th. Me.... I'll be reading the boards 20 times a day looking for league and draft announcements (and I've been playing since the first year).
